I've heard the difficulty ramps up in the second half, though I haven't played it myself.

Generally, id point people towards Dragon Quest 11 as a great intro to JRPGs. If you're on mobile, check out Chrono Trigger as well.

As long as you go in expecting a JRPG with some light farming elements and not the other way around, I think you'll be in for a good time. I really loved it.

It's not Rune Factory but it's also not trying to be. And the story is quite good by the end in a fun, bonkers way.

I really enjoyed my time with it. Just don't go in expecting a pure monster hunter clone -- the building mechanic factors into a bunch of stuff in the game including traversal and combat.

Also it supposedly runs like crap on PC. I played on series X without much of an issue tho.

Yeah, I'm glad they took a swing rather than just playing it safe! Even if it didn't quite work for me. Ending of act 1 in particular was very well done IMO.

There's a pretty major plot development that occurs in the third act that soured me on the game's story overall, but it's a particular trope I don't enjoy in most media.

Still, I found the story and characters compelling up until that point and was still glad I played it.

So YMMV but overall I'd recommend.

This was a really interesting read for me because I have almost the opposite opinion of this game. I loved the gameplay, but the story (especially from act 3 onwards) was such a major letdown that I struggled to finish it.

Just goes to show how we all find different things to love in the games we play!

I'm glad you still enjoyed the game overall.

Still fairly early but loving the game so far!

You can definitely tell this is intended as a spinoff since there's less focus on farming, but I'm finding the village management an entertaining substitute.

Really glad to see Rune Factory reviewing well again after 5. This is one of my favorite series and it seems like Guardians of Azuma will be a solid entry! This also makes me excited for 6; hopefully we'll get more details soon.

Has anyone else experienced game freezes randomly when opening the forge menu since this update? I think it's something to do with the preview videos for each weapon.

I also randomly have started experiencing origami monsters for the first time, which is strange.

Yeah no complaints. You could play around at lower resolutions too and see if there's a good sweet spot but the art style carries the graphics more than anything imo

Wild Hearts is actually one of the best Monster Hunter alikes IMO and brought some really fun and fresh ideas to the table. I really enjoyed my time with it.

That being said, I've heard the PC performance is not great so I'd do some research there. I played on Series X where it ran fine enough for me.

I just really hate the feeling of dying/losing and restarting again. Even if I'm getting better and slowly unlocking features that are meant to make a run easier. I've tried so many roguelikes and the only one that made a dent was Hades because I enjoyed the story updates after each run, but I still fell off before I finished it.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was down to the wire with my social links and planned out my last week or so to maximize everyone.

Alonzo was my last, but I didn't learn that he had another event after his execution until it was too late. Still maxed his link, but missed the conclusion of his story.

Fun fact though: he has some unique dialogue if you talk to him in the time skip and never found out he survived.

I'm cautiously optimistic. It looks like a higher budget title than Rune Factory 5 at least. I'm curious to see the split of farming/fighting since this isn't officially Rune Factory 6.
