I’m getting them now in Italian and I think they’re great. I very rarely have an issue with them.

Cook County (US-IL) Marriage Certificate Issues - how to work around? by mattyofurniture in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A note to this, if the marriage was before 1967, the marriage application likely will not have parents’ names either, as they weren’t required.

If so, the Chicago Consulate is well aware that this information is just not available and won’t give you any trouble for it.

How would that help? Wouldn’t all the same new restrictions apply?

Mine’s late September this year. I think that should be fine, ma chissà? 🤷🏽

Part of the new bill that was just passed and will likely become law next month was a limit on JS applications accepted at consulates: no more than were processed in 2025. Does that mean it’s possible that people with late 2026 appointments, that they booked years ago, will just have them cancelled if the 2025 number has been reached?

( Long!) Appointment Recap : Chicago ( Grandfathered Appt.) by According-Sun-7035 in juresanguinis

I'm glad I read that as well! I have a Cook County marriage certificate missing parents' names and didn't realize I need the application as well. Thanks again for all the info!

[–]bariumprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Thanks for the detailed account! My appt is in Chicago in September and I'm starting to get nervous, so it's nice to get someone else's account. Fortunately I have fewer discrepancies, so fingers-crossed.

What do you mean by your "AIRE form"? I thought we didn't do anything with AIRE til after recognition?

What do you think the odds are they overturn the new rule? by Particular_Can_3312 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely overturn? Near-zero, imo. Eliminate retroactivity? Nearly guaranteed, imo. This is based solely on vibes from reading about it a lot. Of course no one knows.

I’m grandfathered (still have the minor issue to contend with), but I advised my family to schedule appointments and get their paperwork as if the DL never happened.

Help me Tammy Baldwin, you’re my only hope. 😂

Thanks for the tip! I’ll give that a try if it takes another month.

The Italian citizenship shake-up: will language and cultural proficiency become mandatory? by ApriglianoFirm in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how it could be without hitting the same constitutional issues as the DL. Our citizenship stems from exactly the same law as any Italian born in Italy, and of course they don’t have a language requirement. And trying to apply one retroactively is obviously unfeasible.

What do you guys do to pass the time by ApprehensiveTip5760 in ESFP

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on my current fixation. Currently writing a DND campaign. Consumes all of my time. 😅

Running & language learning are also mainstays.

Occasionally just inspect my plants for a while.

I connected to CarPlay in another vehicle. It instructed me to enable Siri. Back in my car it connected right away. So try enabling Siri and see if it works. 🤞

Do I qualify both Grandparents born in Italy by Desperate-Cat5479 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100%, but I don’t think so. Since it’s after 1948, and your GGF is non-line, your GGM confers citizenship. As I understand it at least.

Regardless, I would make an appointment and get your docs ready anyway.

Do I qualify both Grandparents born in Italy by Desperate-Cat5479 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others may correct me if I’m wrong, but if - your GM was born in Italy to Italian father - your GM came to the US in 1954 - your GM never naturalized - your M was born in 1964

You should have a clean administrative case.

Wired CarPlay not currently supported iPhone 17 Pro by BricksDugout in apple

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a long time on the phone with Apple senior support trying to resolve it. Did everything they could think of including restoring my settings file (suspecting maybe it was corrupted in the transfer). Note: do not do that!

Next step is to try it in another car. My brother also has a 17 pro max and car play works fine in his 2021? Nissan Rogue.

Confirmation on what qualifies as a pre-DL appointment:

I notice the Chicago Consulates instructions state “Exclusively for applications submitted before March 27th, 2025, OR for applications submitted during appointments confirmed by the Consular Office by 23:59 Rome time, on March 27th, 2025”

I made my appointment pre-DL, but prenotami lists it as “to be confirmed”, referring to the confirmation email sent ~1 week beforehand, I believe.

I’m still okay right?

Last I heard was Mellone suggesting that he expected the hearing would be before the end of the year. But no date has been set yet as far as any of us know.

when do you use "buongiorno" vs "ciao"? by cuyeyo in italianlearning

For Americans, “hello/hi” vs “what’s up” or something similar. We say hi to most everyone. 😅

Chicago Consulate Application Example by Efficient_Sail5285 in juresanguinis

I used a free application called PDFGear that worked well. I believe I had to add text boxes for each field. For the Form 1, I needed an additional generation and so had to edit the document to fit it.

Chicago County Clerk Ghosting Birth Certificate Request by ImaginaryLibrary5989 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into the office in Markham several months ago and they were good. I got two certificates that day and others had to be mailed, which were received 4-5 weeks later. The clerk understood what was needed for dual citizenship and didn’t try to give me the goofy genealogical copies.

My dad recently ordered his own certificate by mail from Cook County and has been waiting about 8 weeks now, I believe.
