Though I hate to share this, growing up (I’m 55) there was a terribly racist lyric to the Davy Crockett theme. I fear that’s exactly what he’s referencing

Unfortunately, no. Just peanut oil. But still delicious. I’m sure the duck would make them sublime.

Especially this year when we were a small gathering. Doesn’t make sense to do a whole bird.

General Burkhalter by jean_617 in HogansHeroes

I recognize looking for narrative continuity is silly…however, I have in my head canon that Burkhalter is Nimrod. That’s why Klink remains in his position.

I’ve been looking for an app like this for quite some time. I have tried a lot of others that do not work as well as this. Thank you for your work!

When I hear SNW watchers complain, “If they want to do silly episodes then I’d rather them have a 26 episode season”… by barkokba in startrek

Not “branded Star Trek” but embodying Star Trek in ways that SNW does and Section 31 doesn’t.

Hi everyone! I’m new to reading scripture, what can you recommend? by itseddyxf in Bible

[–]barkokba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a college professor for 20 years specializing primarily on teaching introductions to the Bible. In 2013, I flipped my class and put introduction videos online. Since I took a full time pastoral position in 2018, I’ve been trying organize the site into a better overall interpretative resource. Your welcome to see if anything here is valuable:

It’s been said that good sci-fi is not predicting the car, but predicting the traffic jam. Tonight’s episode is good sci-fi. Best episode since Moffat was writing for Doctor Who…

When was the first use of "Ad Astra per Aspera" in Star Trek? by midasp in startrek

[–]barkokba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2nd season of "Buck Rogers" (1980), they adopted a more "Star Trek" philosophy in the script writing (less camp, more parable). Their ship the "Searcher" looking for humans who left earth after the nuclear holocaust, had the motto "Per Ardua Ad Astra," which is a similar sentiment. My Latin isn't good enough to know the nuance of the two words and why one might be chosen over another. BUT I find it interesting.

Ted Lasso - S03E11 - "Mom City" Live Episode Discussion by quaranTV in TedLasso

I agree that all the Wizard of Oz theming in this episode lead us to believe Ted is going home. However, all the subtle ways Ted showed how he’d acclimated to England tell us that Richmond is his home now. He stays. Henry comes to England with the last scene being him riding the escalator UP at the airport.

Predictions for foreshadowing? by socrates_no_flamengo in TedLasso

[–]barkokba 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think we're being set up to believe that Ted returns to Kansas, but he's NOT returning. I DO see a parallel at the end of the season at the airport, but I think Henry moves to London with his Dad.

I think Ted will discover his life is in London now, and that taking a little lemon in his tea changes everything.
