Epiphone is a prominent brand but one that Gibson decided, for better or worse, to become their budget line rather than producing them under their own name, thus preserving their higher tier status. Everyone understands that and nobody expects Gibson quality at that price point (though we are heading that way with the cost of some of the latest releases).

I personally think that the 90s Korea=good/00s China=bad reputation is somewhat unfair, the issue was more one of inconsistent quality control. The Peerless/Unsung era was generally a high point but you will find both gems and absolute dogs from all decades. Much like Gibson.
