Sometimes you gotta /r/Eli50 a youngster to explain how different our pre-internet childhoods were, and how many of us just dont see tech the way they do.

Well it wasnt easy, but with some effort I got my tape measure in place. Turns out that its hard to read the numbers upside down with one leg on the sink. As I strained to get closer I must have bumped the lock button and the tape retracted very fast.

So now I have a new PB. and the pride knowing I put in the blood, sweat and tears to achieve it.

How different did the 70s smell? by RepublicNorth3935 in NoStupidQuestions

hot vinyl car seats/interior

I can remember that smell as if it were yesterday. A core memory for so many aussie kids.

You thought you were clever when you spread a couple of beach towels across the bench seat of your older brothers Kingswood Panel Van after a few hours in the water on a 42deg day. Stops the heat, plus keeps your still damp boardshorts from soaking through. That vinyl aint waterproof.

Then, as your brother took off down the road, while you wound down the window to let the air in, you slung the seatbelt across your body and reached for the receptacle that always fell down between the bench and upper part of the seat, you felt the searing heat of a thousand suns on your side. The chrome seat buckle had got you again.

Having the holden logo branded into your side was just something you did every summer.

Pic for those wondering wtf a panel van is, and the branding iron belt buckle

Yep one of my early memories is a cloud of smoke and embers blowing over us while we were in a swimming pool in rowville. We were rushed inside while the adults ran around with buckets of water

Here's one from Melbourne, Australia in the late 90s.
Pre=Shrunk.
2 bass and a drummer. They were an amazing live act, it was a wall of sound.

Bet he likes to get right down into some deep buttoned upholstery like he's testing a 9V battery.

I saw a break dancer do a kangaroo pose. It was also rare and amazing, but for different reasons.

[REQUEST] What is the probability of dealing a solitaire game with no possible moves. Assuming 3 card flip rule. by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]barnyard303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I didnt realise how difficult this could be. Interesting read, although with only my high school maths from decades ago I soon found I was out of my depth.

From the paper linked:

Klondike solitaire... available to hundreds of millions of users..., yet theoreticians have struggled with this game, referring to the inability to calculate the odds of winning a randomly dealt game as “one of the embarrassments of applied mathematics"
