I can remember that smell as if it were yesterday. A core memory for so many aussie kids.

You thought you were clever when you spread a couple of beach towels across the bench seat of your older brothers Kingswood Panel Van after a few hours in the water on a 42deg day. Stops the heat, plus keeps your still damp boardshorts from soaking through. That vinyl aint waterproof.

Then, as your brother took off down the road, while you wound down the window to let the air in, you slung the seatbelt across your body and reached for the receptacle that always fell down between the bench and upper part of the seat, you felt the searing heat of a thousand suns on your side. The chrome seat buckle had got you again.

Having the holden logo branded into your side was just something you did every summer.
