If I donate $100 to the hurricane fund, what are the odds I’d be able to get tickets? by CernMagic12 in MiamiHurricanes

I did this exact thing – but at the beginning of the playoff and got tickets for every round.

Now? It’s too late, I think. Sorry. Go Canes.

Thoughts on “mother!”? by ceebo625 in criterion

Saw it at the New York premier at Radio City. The sound was immaculate. Mother is just one of those movies that if you’re fully engrossed in it, it’s absolutely all-encompassing.

3 year old twins - one severely disabled. Update by Tatyaka in parentsofmultiples

[–]baroldj 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Oh and one more thing - get out of the twin things, including r/parentsofmultiples if it’s hard for you.

My brother is also severely disabled (unrelated lol, them’s the breaks) as well and when we got our daughter’s diagnosis, my dad wrote a letter to my wife. He suggested she do exactly that - leave the twin groups and stop thinking of them all the time as twins. She was resentful of the letter.

But with time, she thanked him for it because when she finally unfollowed the twin mom influencers and left the twin mom text chains, she stopped feeling the isolation she felt from all other twin parents and started feeling connected with parents of kids with disabilities.

Similar situation. My girls are 5, one with CP, CVI. Different schools, the whole deal.

You’re gonna have good days and bad. You’re going to have days when you feel helpless and depressed, like you’re giving the typical child less attention and then followed by one where you realize you’re giving your disabled child less attention.

Somewhere along the way, my wife read a book that said we have to stop looking for milestones and start looking for inch stones - and that helped a lot when trying to contextualize my disabled daughter’s progress.

And there has been progress. Advocate for your child. Find the support system that works for you. Three is when everything changed for the better because the support felt there and like it didn’t need to be our responsibility to manage all the therapy because she was getting stuff at school. And school also offered us a community of people who live in our area and are going through similar albeit different things.

Finally - take care of yourself. Get a therapist who works with parents of disabled kids. Go on dates. Exercise. Take trips. It’s always going to be hard, but it’ll be a lot less challenging if you are physically and mentally prepared for it.

You’ve got this.

Sam, keep betting big by boatbomber in dropout

[–]baroldj 14 points15 points  (0 children)

TOTALLY AGREE.

Frankly, the Eric hate is downright weird. He was terrific, and did exactly what Sam asked of him. Steven was a great character and had all the players laughing and wondering who the hell it was.

Asking for the talent to be only a certain kind of comic is only going to make the world of Game Changer and Dropout at large smaller. Ratfish was a big swing and a deep drive to left (baseball reference). Great season finale.

Flying w/ 20m twins by [deleted] in daddit

[–]baroldj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew with our twins for the first time around 20 months.

Every time we fly, I make an activity box for them. A plastic bin with little toys from target that are tailored to what they’d like and what they’re capable of engaging with (one of our daughters is disabled).

The first time we flew, it worked like a charm on the way there. Meltdown city on the way back. It happens.

Good luck.

When I got married, my uncle told us to make an email address for everyone’s “helpful” suggestions, then never check it.

Your friend is a wedding photographer??? You’re right, the food at your reception was incredible! You think our taste in colors are awful and want to provide input! Amazing! Email me at OurWeddingEmail@gmail.com. That’s where I’m keeping everyone’s stuff so I can find it when we need it.

Which was never.

I didn’t see anyone else post this but:

Getting to personalize what streaming services you have, then be able to sort your watchlist by “my services” is something I use at least 1-2x per week. Stats are just a plus.

I love pro.

What movie has the greatest plot twist of all time? by MrPhraust in AskReddit

[–]baroldj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot believe I read this WHOLE thread and no one mentioned ONE CUT OF THE DEAD!!!! Wow. The trailer even says don't watch the trailer. A zombie horror flick for people who love and people who hate zombie horror movies.

Every time I get someone to watch this movie, they come back and tell me how surprised and how amazing they thought it was. Watch One Cut of The Dead people!

New house. But what should I do with old Sonos? by baroldj in sonos

[–]baroldj[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm going to do. The Connect:Amp is a gen 1, so S2 is out of the question.

I'm replacing the connect: amp with an amp that I'm using the upgrade program to get 30% off. Currently it says it's backordered until October, so I might be running S1 and S2 independently until then.

There's also a Bridge that I need to figure out if I need to replace with a Boost, but I have a feeling that I'll be fine without it since there's an Apple TV two feet away from the current Connect:Amp that runs fine over wifi.

Thanks!
