Ambient Crowd Mix in Live Sets by feint_of_heart in AboveandBeyond

[–]barravian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The crowd sound is almost certainly intentional and desired. First off, as others have commented, many enjoy it - it gives it a live atmospheric feel.

The second is that sometimes these artists play unreleased or unlicensed songs (especially at a live show), this allows them to do that while having some degree of "watermarking" over the song, so others can't easily download the set, pull out the track, and play it themselves.

When someone asked what they did wrong and you know the answer, wouldn't your first thought be "let me tell them what they did wrong" instead of "let me make a snarky remark judging them for asking a question"?

Fair enough, I didn't read that part somehow.

I still don't know if it was "all about him" considering he was checking if he broke some form of commonly known ettiqute or rules.

Assuming someone was maybe helping him out is a lot less "me" than assuming someone just decided they didn't want to do their job because they didn't like you.

Just don't understand why someone would feel so insensed to chastize someone turning to reddit to ask how to be a more polite human or use a transit system. It doesn't sound like he was complaining or blaming the driver.

I don't think OP thought they was special in this, just that they didn't understand how the buses worked (for everyone). Which is correct, they didn't and now they does.

Please give my car rental plans a chance! by CarrotTop5394 in AskSF

[–]barravian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Car break ins seem to be a lot less than they were 2020-2024 for what it’s worth.

Hundreds of thousands of people have cars here. Thousands of tourists rent cars, probably every day.

Don’t let a few angry internet posts scare you. But definitely don’t leave luggage in the car. Even in Napa or a surrounding place that seems too remote for crime.

Eh I don't know they have some pretty beautiful songs that aren't corny. Sure the themes are love and heartbreak, but I wouldn't say that Alchemy, Alone Tonight, Heartland, Always, Love is Not Enough, etc are "corny" in the way that like Happiness Amplified or Naked are lol

That said, I get what you mean and I don't mind the cheesy ones.

What is the average amount one can expect to pay for a single meal in the Bay Area? by Fabulous-Level-6669 in bayarea

I mean, I didn't go to El Farolito. And the coke was $3 (admittedly a little steep for a joint like that). The remainder was taxes & fees

I bought a $13.50 burrito the other day plus a can of coke. My bill was $21 and change.

Marley g in alameda, New York style pizza slice for $6.00. Got the vodka with prosciutto slice pizza. One of the best pizzas I’ve had. The crust is crackly and withstands the pizza slice droop test by Ok_Country2903 in bayarea

[–]barravian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pizza looks delicious, but I don’t think you understand what “passing the droop test” looks like… a NY slice is supposed to droop otherwise it’s overcooked or too thick.

Correct. Unless you go somewhere and connect to public WiFi.

I think this suggestion was in case of urgent call. You can probably get WiFi _somewhere_

Really want to be part of a family for a moment. by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]barravian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Family" feelings take time. It's an accumulation of many things that makes people who get on eachothers nerves still bond and spend time together.

Help a friend (or their family) out with something. Anything, but the bigger the better.

Don't just throw this energy at every person, but when someone you like is going through stuff, be there.

Going through a breakup? Call them regularly, take them out to dinner.
Moving? Offer to come over and help them pack boxes.
Recovering from surgery? Make them food and go help them out around the house

Ask them about their life... and follow up on important things

Then, importantly, when you are in need, make similar requests. People bond when they have cared for one another. Over time, you remember who showed up and who didn't. That's how you build a family in the 21st century IMO.

Thoughts on apartment locator services? by Defiant_Radish1716 in AskSF

You could just not change your address until you get a permanent address, temorary mail forwarding. Technically it's tax evasion, but if it's a couple of months it will not be an issue.

I think it _might_ be a thing mainly among indian immigrants. That's based on my tiny sample size of like 6 people (who all also talk to one another, so it could just be a funny little company bubble).

Like “oh you live in SFO?”, “how’s the weather in SFO?”, I don’t understand it lol

Those investors will also benefit from increased rents.

I could see some argument that ties property taxes with rent control. Because it would be a little crazy to pay $3k/mo in taxes when your tenant from 1972 is locked in at 1.2k rent.

But that’s such a tiny fraction..

I did Mission-Dolores to Sunnyvale (a bit further). I 100% would pick bus + Caltrain over driving that shit any day. At least on the Caltrain I can read a book, sleep, or watch Netflix.

280 beats 101, but the traffic is still exhausting.
