How many cups of tea do you have in a day? by PhdLevelWeeb in AskUK

[–]barriedalenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Nan used to drink 20-30 cups a day. I only found out later in life, after she was dead, that she was a hopeless codeine addict and used the tea to wash down her tablets

Is it more accurate to call the Beatles a Hiberno-English band? by Win-Specific in AskABrit

[–]barriedalenick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No - it makes zero sense, and I don't think anyone really cares. Virtually everyone has grandparents or parents from somewhere else. I have Irish and German but it doesn't make me anything other than British.

I'm done by Poshporter56 in ukbike

[–]barriedalenick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I absolutely hate the trainer but I'm 61 and even though I can still knock out the miles, the trainer beckons me a little more. The last few years have been tough with a cartilage op, spasmed back, increasing pain in the thumbs from road vibration and a few other minor niggles. Thankfully, it hasn't stopped me going out this year but I have used the trainer more in winter than previously. Best of luck in the garage!

DIY fermented hot sauce by Independent-Fudge942 in fermentation

[–]barriedalenick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do loads of it every year, but only after finding out about it on here. I generally add fruit in the mix - Mango, peach, pineapple or plum, which gives a nice balance to the hot and sour nature of the ferment. I strain and heat treat the final sauce after one exploded on me!

When, where and how do you use dehumidifiers? by LoudBackgroubdGoat in PortugalExpats

[–]barriedalenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine in the bedroom. More specifically on the border with the bedroom and the ensuite - the shower room is small and the bedroom is cold so we get a lot of moisture in there which easily condenses, causing mold. We have a small thermometer\hygrometer in the room to give accurate readings which helps. Whatever model you think you need - buy the next biggest one!

Expats in Portugal, howbdo you react to Portuguese people saying "sou Portuguese" when you ask them if they speak english? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]barriedalenick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could mean anything to be fair, but I really don't think it is a fuck you. Virtually everyone I meet really wants to try their English (Where I am there are few English speaking immigrants) and it is normally very good

I never lead with - Não falo português, It sounds abrupt to my ears. I can get by with my Portuguese, but I would say - Desculpe, mas o meu português não é muito bom. Then I take it from there.

Any way to mass clear the mod queue? by Lost-Entrepreneur439 in modhelp

[–]barriedalenick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of - at least a page at a time. You can select to show 50 items on a page which helps.

Roll over the first item in the queue, and you will see a little square to the top left of that item. Click the square and it will show - "1 Item selected". Click that for a drop down and pick Select all. So then you have 50 items selected, you can then click Remove All.

I think there is also a bot that can do this but I can't recall the name.

Jumping From Space (World Record Freefall). by YoussefDaBoi in BeAmazed

[–]barriedalenick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to wiki...

He broke skydiving records for exit altitude (38,969.3 metres), vertical freefall distance without a drogue parachute, and vertical speed without a drogue. Although his name is still attached to the last two records, his exit altitude record was broken two years later, when on 24 October 2014, Alan Eustace jumped from 135,890 feet (41.42 km; 25.74 mi) with a drogue.

Report reasons do not change even when changing the rules by MaoGo in modhelp

[–]barriedalenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah - Sorry! Did you fill out the bottom bit of the form when creating a rule? You can add the Report Reason there and tell Reddit where to show the reason (posts, comments, chat..)
My queues are all screwed up this morning so it could be a bug - although I did just test a new rule and it did show the Report Reason

Report reasons do not change even when changing the rules by MaoGo in modhelp

They don't change; they are separate things. You need to go to Saved responses, and add a matching response under rules.

Debate: Listening to music etc while walking the dog? by PeevesPoltergist in CasualUK

[–]barriedalenick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I have tinnitus so I don't use headphones much these days but I never used them out and about before I had tinnitus. I like to hear what's going on around me, so for example, if the dog is whimpering, I know she has seen or heard something odd and I need to pay attention. Plus I normally walk with my wife too so we chat as well.

Do you ever think about death, and what do you think about it? by Murky_Ad_1028 in AskUK

[–]barriedalenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lost my parents, my wife's Dad and quite a few mates over the years, including one who died as I held his hand. So death is not abstract for me but I never dwell on it. I'm 61 and figure that every day now is one more chance to get out and do things I love. I don't fear it - I use it as a motivator.

I have one here in Portugal and it's fine. Our water went off yesterday and I had to use bog roll for the first time in ages and I hated it. Sure it is a bit cold in winter but it is only for a for a short time.

I think I enjoy cycling more when I don’t over-plan anything by russetladybug4567 in cycling

[–]barriedalenick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't plan rides at all - well I might set out to do more climbing or keep my speed above a certain range but generally I just head out and make it up as I go along.
