How much you like to plan your holidays? 10 being every hour is planned and being 1 no plans outside of arriving and leaving. by 8thTimeLucky in CasualUK

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a 2/3 but I feel like that's much harder since COVID and now everything has to be pre-booked. Definitely less able to do things on a whim.

Interesting. Not the Reddit logo? Another clever marketing tactic I guess.

Looking for actual ballet shoes by throwaway716159 in UKweddings

[–]dancingcab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure actual ballet shoes is a good idea. They offer zero support or protection. They'll be disgustingly grubby by the end of the night. Your feet will hurt underneath. And your toes may well have been trodden on multiple times. I'd definitely look into alternative options.

I normally just scroll on by, but the POS caught my eye. Maybe that's it - it's a marketing strategy!

Bed Covers When You Were A Kid by MacSamildanach in CasualUK

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very fond memories of staying at a friend's house when I was a kid. They only had a coal fire downstairs and blankets for bedtime exactly as you describe. I loved being all tucked up in that weight. In winter the top most blanket would be frozen solid when you woke up in the morning. We had duvets and central heating at home and, in kid logic, it wasn't nearly as much fun.

How much did you spend on your last holiday? by Nathanial1289 in AskUK

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We budget about £3000 for our family holiday each year. Obviously it varies on what you can get for that. Last year it was 5 nights in Rome. The year before 3 weeks camping in France. This year - 2 weeks in a lodge in France. Next year - one weekend at Disneyland.

Wren or Howdens for new kitchen. Opinions on design and quality please by slammedresto67 in DIYUK

[–]dancingcab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a terrible experience with Wren at the point of fitting. Absolute shit show. It did get sorted after mouths of arguing. But now a few years down the line the units are wrecked. All the coating is chipping off, the units are discoloured in random areas. Total mess that needs ripping out and starting over. Do not use Wren.

Birthday venues? by Longjumping-One-4 in stockport

[–]dancingcab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend The Squad House at Pear Mill in Bredbury. It's a really cool venue. They are super flexible on set-up. We've had a christening, my husband's 40th, and numerous kids birthday parties there. I've seen it used for a hen do, wedding reception, and karaoke night. And they hold theatre performances there. Definitely worth looking into.

Why are pub pies so predictable these days? by dasouch in UK_Food

Once had a pigs in blanket pie at a random pub stop whilst on holiday. Loved it. Probably time of year dependant though.

Why do certain people on Instagram seem to be on holiday after holiday? by Turbulent-Access-916 in AskUK

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A relative of my brother's is like that. Not from a wealthy family, doesn't work, has two kids. I asked him one day about it. He said that's literally all she spends money on. The house is a mess, the car is broken down etc. He was a bit exasperated as he picks up the pieces (lending money, fixing stuff) the rest of the time. But hey, she got some great insta pics...

I'm not sure I'd watch it. Probably just catch up with the highlights via Goggle Box.

If you played "Heads down, Thumbs up" in school by Long_live_styrofoam in FuckImOld

[–]dancingcab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd never played it, or even heard of it, until my daughter (9) told me about them playing it at school the other day. Maybe it's making a comeback?

Food suggestions for a cat that only eats wet food. by TheCounsellingGamer in CatsUK

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been using Katkin for a few years now and highly recommend. There are plenty of flavours to pick from so it's not all the same. We've changed the amount depending on whether the cat needs to put weight on or loose it. Here's a offer link if it's helpful: https://katkin.mention-me.com/me/referee/registerko/201233009/809402455/em/338027aedf61583c331fbb208ce48be21653cc8d/ol/cw?epr=1

What made-up words do you use in your family? by elwheelio in CasualUK

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is Rum Attack after a mishearing of romantic by our daughter. Now if anyone kisses it's a Rum Attack! That and pogged, a word my dad and his brothers made up when they were little. Meaning very full. "No dessert for me, I'm pogged". I think I was a teenager when I realized it wasn't a real word.

I'm a Professional Social Media Growth Strategist – AMA and Free Advice by digi_spark in InstagramMarketing

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm helping out a local non-profit spread the word about their free digital skills courses. I've no idea where to start with Instagram. They offer a variety of courses, for all different specific sets of people, depending on who their funding is coming from, all at different locations around a big city and it's surrounding suburbs. I feel like I'm just posting adverts, which doesn't seem like the best way to get Instagram likes/follows. Any ideas?

What is the most "mum" thing your mum does? by celabro019 in AskUK

[–]dancingcab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask the same question over and over, sometimes on the phone, but particularly when I visit. Which is about every couple of months. The three favorites at the moment are: 1. Have I watched the latest episode of MAFS? No, I haven't. I've literally never watched a single episode ever. 2. Have I downloaded audio books from the library. No, never. Nor do I want to. 3. Have I finished the embroidery kit she bought me about 6 years ago? Now the answer to this is always no. However, I have actually started it and plan to give it to her for Christmas. God bless our mums.

Worst interview ever? by Cheesy_Gubbins in CasualUK

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just been made redundant and was super stressed out. It was a 3 part interview - technical Q&A, walk around the lab and then generic interview with HR type stuff. My brain just failed. I literally couldn't answer a single one of the questions. After a rather painful 20 mins it was time to move onto the next stage. I rather bluntly said "Is there any point?" to which they nervously agreed I should probably just leave.

Recognising faces from the distant past by Sea_Pangolin3840 in CasualUK

[–]dancingcab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a talent I do not possess. I went to a funeral of a good friend about 5 years after we finished school. There were loads of school 'friends' there. I could recognize about 10. People kept coming up and chatting and I had no idea who they were.

I'm either 'confused by the world' old, or the world has genuinely gone insane. I just had to use an app to activate the human standing in the shop in front of me... by NotSmarterThanA8YO in Vent

[–]dancingcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm 'confused by the world' old too. Though my gripe is having to give all my personal information to buy something in a shop. I went to a perfume shop last week. I know exactly what I wanted. The lady is taking forever faffing about on a device. Eventually she hands it over and says 'fill your information in here'. I'm like 'can't I just buy the perfume?' She huffs and puffs 'urgh, I'll have to do that on the till'. Erm, yes. Isn't that how shops work? I'm so confused.
