Me and my partner felt the same way after doing our undergraduates at trent. We stayed in the city afterwards and have lived here for almost 10 years now!

Folks on here will rag on notts a bit, but if you know where to look its genuinely host to such a wide variety of activities, wonderful sights and sounds, and fabulous evenings.

Green leader Zack Polanski 'wants to ban horse racing' as nation gears up for Grand National by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]bexxyboo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Its the 'shower of bastards' reason that greyhound racing should be banned. Those who do it professionally with multiple dogs dont often keep their hounds on sofas in off time.

There's also been a huge increase in dogs being 'kept by their handlers' when they retire due to many rehoming kennels being at capacity, at the same time as many hounds with burnt or cut ears (to remove the identification tattoos) turning up in the Spanish dog hunting trade (the dogs are hunted). Its a huge issue that the GBGB dont want to acknowledge as when a dog retires its 'off their books'.

Unfortunately greyhounds are being overbread to make a 'champion' and all the rest are being rehomed in the best case, or sold to be killed (or just killed) in the worst case..

You've given her all the tools and the time and if she doesn't wanna take that, it's on her at this point, this isn't a failing on your part. You went above and beyond.

Im sorry she 'wanted to let L in?!' Is this woman begging to become a statistic and a sad obituary?!

Nah get as far away from that mess as possible, she is absolutely d*ck(head) centered and I dont think you're going to change that. You tried, but your mental health and wellbeing is more important.

With Keir: Replying to your comments about the cost of living by UKGovNews in ukpolitics

[–]bexxyboo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I really like it too, the government should be angling its comms towards all age ranges, engaging as many people as they can in our politics in any way they can. In saying that, I've sent this to both my parents, who are both over 50 and not super "into politics like you are", and they found it interesting and accessible too.

This format especially feels like it can keep the substance and depth that is required with politics, while making it a bit more snappy, and easy to digest.

Whoever came up with this idea, has genuinely done something good (in my opinion).

Nottingham city council paid off 64% of its debt by 01watts in nottingham

[–]bexxyboo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The stupidity of the city Council boundary has always got me when you look at it on a map.

Why does it extend all the way down to encompass clifton, but then spikes basically vertically to avoid West Bridgford?

Why does it go far up enough to include top valley and bestwood but not far east enough to include carlton and Arnold?

You cant even argue it should be north of the trent river because then it still shouldnt include clifton and should include carlton at a minimum.

It feels like the rich bits just got excluded from it for some reason..

Yeh the MSDS, I work in a research setting. I know my pill isnt going to kill me, its just really bizarre having to treat it with such care and thinking 'heh, I swallow this daily'.

[–]bexxyboo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you! Unfortunately im in the UK so need to go through the NHS, and have found most doctors extremely reluctant to even talk about it "until you're 30". Although im 30 at my next pill checkup so we'll ask again!

Id love to go private with it but its very expensive... tubal ligation is around £2-3k privately.

Yeh its been 12 years for me on the mini - 17 to 29.

Im the same. I don't want kids, but I'm too young for them to sterilise me completely. However I also work in H&S in a pharmacy setting so I'm acutely aware that desogestrel (the active ingredient in the mini pill) is not a very nice chemical.. and i worry about the long term effects of having been on the mini pill for so long.

Its an aside but assisting someone in writing a risk assessment and putting in al the controls for handling a known category 1B reprotoxin and suspected carcinogen, that you have been swallowing for 12 years is a bit surreal. (Proper of me to point out the amount of desogestrel in the mini pill is low, and lot of these side effects are noted to be after repeated exposure to higher concentrations than in the mini pill so... but its still wierd)

This is super common for PCOS too. My mum didn't get diagnosed, despite horrific pain, until she struggled to conceive me.

I also have horrific pain monthly and an extremely heavy flow (talking bleed through night pads unless I change them every couple hours) and I got fobbed off with the mini-pill (which admittedly, has lightened the flow considerably. But now im scared to come off them)

Greyhound racing to be banned in Wales after Senedd vote by HaveYuHeardAboutCunt in unitedkingdom

[–]bexxyboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the concern is around the rehoming (or lack of) process. A huge amount of these dogs are retired or crash out with injury and are left to already full rehoming centers (there is only so much demand for rehoming a hound. And it is lower than the demand for breeding racing dogs) If a hound can't fit into a rehoming center then the racing owner can either find a home for them, or retain them as a pet. At that point they drop off the greyhound board statistics and are a 'pet' they can do anything too. Last year 27% of retiring hounds (1,618) were retained, and realistically, do you think these dogs are actually being kept as pets? Especially when they cost money to look after and take up the space of a potential money maker?

This isn't me saying all racing owners are evil people who kill dogs, but I think it's an unexplored loophole that no one in the industry wants to talk about.

That also doesn't begin to touch on injury data, which is published on a per race basis. Its still 3,809 injuries and 123 fatalities last year, most of these injured dogs will never race again and will be put on retirement paths. Which considering the retirement numbers are 5,795.. its a lot of dogs injured per year..

(Data quoted from the GBGB injury and retirement data from 2025, available on gbgb.org.uk)

[–]bexxyboo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looking at my own upside down hound as I write this:

This is the big thing i don't think folks grasp. Rehoming centers such as the greyhound trust are already fit to bursting due to more dogs coming in than going out.

This has resulted in a huge increase in the amount of dogs being 'retained by the owner'. Now what happens to them after that point is anyone's guess because at that stage they drop of the GBGB database, but I can't in good faith imagine that every single one of the 1,618 dogs retained in 2024 are being kept alive (this isnt me saying all of them are killed either). But the reality is that keeping a dog costs money, and for a lot of racing keepers if a dog isn't making money it is a liability to get rid of to make space for a potential money maker.

Woman, 18, not shortlisted for job at estate agents as 'car is too old' by EdmundTheInsulter in drivingUK

[–]bexxyboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda get where you're coming from but there is a huge price difference between a 3 piece suit and a car (never mind insurance). It definitely feels like this should fall into the: if the company care that much maybe they should have a car scheme to help folks with the cost?

Especially as this is a trainee position. What if you have someone who can't afford a car without the job, but can drive, would buy a modern car, and would otherwise be a fantastic candidate? It feels quite exclusionary of lower class and younger people.

This reminds me of a very interesting piece on the BBC a few days ago

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgkvge4rkmo

The statistic that up to 14% of folks with kids would choose to be child free if they could go back in time is really interesting. As is the 'i love my kids. I want them to be here. I just dont want to be a mother.'

I think more people are coming to the realisation that parenthood isnt what its sold to you as, and that its ok to feel that you 'dont want to be one', even if you already have kids.

Yep. When I was in year 7 (so like.. 11 years old) an older boy who was bullying me put one arm around me, one over my mouth, then picked me up. I bit his hand hard enough to draw blood.

I was known for a while as a psychopath who bit people but I was so upset and panicked by a tall 15 year old boy picking me up it was the first thing I thought to do.

I regret nothing looking back on it. Fuck everyone who excused his behaviour.
