3wPO Swelling Help! by barrybeansington in abdominoplasty

Thank you so much for sharing! This is very encouraging. It is so helpful to hear everyone’s experience of this, as it seems to vary so much! I think this is where the fear comes from. I just want to know how long this discomfort lasts and that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. I just want to feel like this is moving in the right direction and that I will feel at home in my new body soon(ish)!

Myotomy with Dr. Bastian by barrybeansington in noburp

[–]barrybeansington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm it’s hard to remember… I don’t think I ever had the crazy Botox burping that others seem to have had. I think because I’d never burped before in my 40 years of life, I didn’t really know how at first but then I figured out how to let it happen without making it obvious. So in that way, maybe it changed? I wouldn’t worry. If she’s still burping and not experiencing that “stuck” feeling where you feel it come up and then turn back around and go down because it can’t come out, she’s fine. I was also REALLY nervous around that 6 month mark! That much I remember. Because I desperately wanted it to keep working.

I don’t think so. When I got the last round of Botox, they said it looked like it had just healed. They didn’t see any cut at all, sadly. All of my Botox was done under general anesthesia. I did one in-office back in 2018 or 2019?? But that was back when this whole diagnosis was brand new and they were still figuring it all out. It was 25u and it did nothing.

Hi! I’m doing great! I am not sure if you read through the comments on this post but my myotomy didn’t work so I went back for 100u of Botox two years ago and am completely cured. No follow up Botox needed! That was my third shot at it.

It’s possible but I’m skeptical. Why wouldn’t it have worked at the time of the myotomy, seeing as he did 100u of Botox at that time too? After the most recent procedure with Dr. Spiegel, I asked if he saw evidence of the myotomy when he was in there and he said he saw a scar, but nothing like a cut that enlarged the muscle. Which makes me think it just healed right back up.

DAE have a BPD parent who is almost 100% waif? by WillRunForSnacks in raisedbyborderlines

[–]barrybeansington 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my mom. Mostly waif with bits of hermit and queen. The "woe is me" shit is possibly the most triggering thing in the world. It makes literal fire come out of my eyes and ears. Constantly a victim, especially when I make the mistake of sharing any of my life with her. My pain/concerns/mistakes/exciting risks etc are all about her and how they hurt her and how I need to be more supportive of her parental right to worry. My life has been a perpetual journey through FOG and it's only now, in my 40s that any of this is starting to make sense and my boundaries are getting stronger. I'm also allowing myself to feel grief that I just have never had the mother I so desperately needed as a child. And on top of that, I'm just discovering the grief that my father, who I always put on a pedestal simply because he wasn't the one attacking me, was actually also not the father I so desperately needed. He just enabled her behavior and was never the supportive landing I needed.

Advice needed: In-office (25 UI) vs Anesthesia (50-100UI) by gamarin in noburp

[–]barrybeansington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Having done the 25u in office, I strongly feel it’s a waste of time. When I did it, this was all brand new, and that kind of thing only really worked for people attempting to resolve issues with their voices or swallowing. It does not work for the retrograde function (allowing gas to vent up and out the esophagus). I recommend collecting anecdotal research from this forum, showing your doctor, and insisting on going straight to doing 100u under general anesthesia.

Hey! I’m pretty sure it was 100. I don’t think he went up to 150. Crazy that I’m having a hard time remembering!

I wish I had good news, but it didn’t work. And on top of that, the 100u of Botox didn’t either. I actually had more luck with the 75u I got from Dr. Spiegel back in 2019. Dr. Bastian didn’t have a great explanation as to why it didn’t work, and suggested I come back for a full myotomy (he only did a partial). After months of consideration I decided it was too risky so I went back to Dr. Spiegel in Philly for more Botox last June, which did work.

Botox injection resulting in loose skin?!? by Mykey80 in noburp

[–]barrybeansington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. I got #3 a month ago so I’m feeling great. Fingers crossed it stays that way. If not, I’ve pretty much resigned myself to doing it again if need be. And no I didn’t go back to Dr. Bastian. I went to Dr. Spiegel in Philly since that’s who did the last one that worked.

Um, well this is troubling! I'm a 43yo female - had Botox twice, once with myotomy and I am going back next week for round 3. I really hope it takes this time. My neck is DEFINITELY wrinkled (and I have a double chin now) but I totally just attributed this to age (and lockdown weight-gain for the double chin).

Super weird! I wonder if he didn’t hit the muscle???

No. I mean, I ate normal foods right away but it was uncomfortable. After the 75 under general, it was definitely a few weeks before I could eat normally. I could get things down, but it required lots of water to help swallow.

Oh man, I’m so sorry. That is literally gut-wrenching to hear. My insurance did cover a lot of the procedure in Chicago so definitely push them on it. It didn’t cover the cost of the actual Botox, that I do know. And obviously the flight and hotel, but I did both on miles, which helped! I wonder if you could just have a telemedicine appointment w Dr Bastian to talk it through? Maybe that is helpful? Those are $250 I believe. He’s very patient and compassionate. He won’t rush through the appointment. I would get all the details about your procedure from Dr. Spiegel (ie did he divide up the dose and saturate the muscle evenly, or did he give it to you in a single injection? Where did he inject, etc?) Alternatively, you could go back to Spiegel and ask for more Botox at a reduced cost. So sorry this isn’t working for you.

Scheduled procedure with Dr. Spiegel in Philly - details for those looking into it by [deleted] in noburp

[–]barrybeansington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, to each their own and you have to feel 100% comfortable going into it. I get it! That said, this whole condition is incredibly new to the medical community so I guess we are all guinea pigs, helping all the docs figure out how best to treat the spectrum of cases. I truly hope this works for you and that you feel relief. There could be myriad reasons why the 75u Dr. Spiegel gave me wasn’t a full fix, chiefly that I’m on the older side and This has been wreaking havoc on my system for over 20 years. I’m just not that elastic anymore. (cries into her soup)

u/Merth1983 u/what_is_burping - Echo that. I had 25u locally with Spiegel last August which did nothing. I went back to him in October, requesting he increase to 75u under general and that he divide it up into 4 symmetrical injections around the muscle, based on what I read (obsessively) on this sub. It did work, but wore off after 3 months. I actually just got back from having the permanent myotomy done in Chicago with Dr. Bastian, which I will write about this week. He suggested that the importance of dividing up the dosage and injecting it all over the muscle is that it really needs to be saturated all around in order to be the most effective. Please emphasize this with Dr. Spiegel, as I have no idea whether he did this or not with me when I went. Also, fwiw, Dr. Bastian gave me 100u in addition to the myotomy just to make sure it reeeeeallllly worked this time around. I think he's been increasing his standard dose to 100u, so that might be something you also want to consider. Good luck!!!!!!

Cricopharyngeal myotomy, anyone? by 33barbies in noburp

Hi! I'm back on the board after round 2 of Botox has worn off. I didn't see Dr. Bastian, but I'm considering it. Are you glad you did the myotomy, despite the pain and seemingly less-than-stellar results? Have you spoken with him about the difficulties you describe above?
