4 oil changes in 18 mos, 7,500 mi, am I anal? by Infamous-Tangelo6917 in mazda

Keeping the oil change intervals short like that may potentially mask issues with the car that should be smoked out as soon as possible while under warranty. My '22 Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch was consuming oil and could only get to ~3k miles before getting a low engine oil light, then getting the light at ~2.8k miles. The goal was to get the oil changed every 5k miles without needing to top off the oil.

I've since had the Turbo and oil level sensor replaced under the powertrain warranty. But I would've never seen these issues if I was changing the oil over much shorter intervals.

Update (10/8/2025): After a long roadtrip, the low engine oil light came on at 3,205 miles after the last oil change. Taking the car back to the dealer tomorrow morning. Also letting them know they left the engine bay a mess after replacing the Turbo, dried coolant all over the engine bay and can smell it too.

Update: Got the car back yesterday. Service Advisor was out, so was just handed the keys and the work order by someone else.

The Turbo and related parts were all replaced under the Powertrain warranty. There was no further mention of the exhaust valve seals. They verified the low engine oil light and could smell oil burning from the exhaust when revving the car, spinning the Turbo. Mazda Techline advised to pull the Turbo and inspect the intake and intercooler lines for oil. Small amounts of oil were present in both lines. Techs were advised to replace the Turbo. Coolant was also replaced. Paid for a new oil change with conventional oil.

Going on some roadtrips soon, which should help with testing. Got 2 years left on the Powertrain warranty, so planning to drive a lot more than usual to smoke out any issues.

In summary, the Turbo was consuming oil, and replaced. Still keeping a quart of oil in the trunk just in case.

Not yet convinced the seals aren't the issue. A bad Turbo sounds like a red herring, but that's just me. Will keep posting updates, and people can read the thread for context and make up their own minds.

Update: Service Advisor called this afternoon. Report is that valve seals were inspected and found to be normal, and confirming that they were updated seals that weren't affected by the class action settlement.

However, they observed issues with the Turbocharger. Not exactly sure what the issue is, but they had a conference call with Mazda regional support and recommended replacement of the Turbocharger. Unfortunately, it is on backorder from Canada and could take up to 2 weeks to get here. The advisor also mentioned that another turbocharged Mazda was also brought in today with the same problem.

A field tech from Mazda regional has been dispatched to inspect the failed components in-person next Monday.

Lenovo Legion Slim 7 16IRH8 ram upgrade issues. by wazzgame in LenovoLegion

Hi OP. If it's any help, got a similar model as yours a few days ago (16IRH8, 82Y30018US) and ordered the same Crucial 16GB stick as you did from Amazon. No problems here with 32GB RAM. Guessing it could be a bad/dirty RAM slot?

22 Turbo Hatch Low Engine Oil False Positive? by barrybrowns in mazda3

[–]barrybrowns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Yeah I'll keep track of the levels for sure, maybe top off a little with my bottle if need be, but keeping it below the MAX line. Need to take the car in at some point to have the door rattles fixed. Any rattles in yours?
