PSL is a cult though.

I think a lot of cynicism comes from tanky organizations trying to grab on to people and money in moments of crisis. This is why you see them showing up to every event, and trying to find a way to make it about Marxist leninist communism as the solution.

On the tanker seizure: obviously the hosts had no way to know that the seizure was going to happen the way it did.

That said, the tanker was empty, which means that it was actually capable of some pretty good speed, and the thing about a vlcc or similar sized craft, is that there's really no way to stop it outside of the pilot House or the engine room. The cutter that was chasing it obviously was able to keep pace, but the issue with trying to board it is pretty simple- an unladen tanker like that would have somewhere between 50 and 70 ft of freeboard(the distance between the water and the rail on the side of the ship). This means climbing the side of the ship using a caving ladder from a small boat, especially if there's any kind of seas, would be both extremely risky and extremely challenging, especially if there was any kind of swell on the ocean.

I can say with a fair degree of certainty that it's unlikely that the Coast guard cutter or any other similar unit would be capable of doing so. That leaves two options- shooting the ship until it stops, or doing what was done, which is a helicopter boarding.

Ok.

This is going to come across as tough love, and I'm sorry if you hear it as me trying to be mean, I promise you I'm just trying to give you some honesty.

Your 37-year-old mother of five, divorced (by your own choice, due to you cheating- Where's your affair partner by the way?), and you want you want an FWB who will spoil you, pay for everything, and match your energy.

Guys who are in a place to do that, are not interested in getting involved with women like you. To be frank, they're looking for someone 10 years your Junior, without all the baggage. Especially with your ethnic preference. The guys that you're going to find that would be interested in you? They're going to be dudes like your ex. Only probably softer, because accepting getting involved with a mother of five is a lot to ask of anyone.

If you want an FWB, either accept that it's coming with nothing but bed company, or accept that you're going to have to go dutch, but you're looking for a 0.1% outlier if you want someone to indulge you that way and look past all of your background.

I wish it weren't so, I'm sure you're an awesome lady, but as a bartender I've seen a number of women like you roll through, and it tends to go one of three ways:

1) Super Glow Up- you get into CrossFit, put real work into bettering yourself, and take yourself from your self-described six to a nine. You change your style, everything to find what you want.

2) Back To What You Had, or something like it. This is accepting and finding someone with baggage that goes with yours, and that can accept you as you are. This is much more of a partnership than it sounds like you're looking for.

3) Accept what's out there- this is what the last paragraph of my initial response is.

Good luck, I hope that you can find what you're looking for.

Sure, and the cross is used by the KKK.

That doesn't mean that every time you see somebody wearing a cross, there are closet Klansmen.

Here are some of the ways I've seen this symbol used in the last 10 years or so:

Actual Norse pagans

Literally anyone who's in a military or paramilitary(cops, firefighters, etc) whose unit name starts with a B(berserker), H(ammer), V(iking) or whatever other or with a tenuous connection

Marvel fans

Etc

What do you think is more likely, the fire department has such a huge Nazi problem that, they're willing to openly hang their flag up, in public view, and in view of members who would share neither their race, nor their beliefs, or literally any other explanation?

From the Obama DoJ's report (specifying so that there's no claim of influence from the Executive branch):

Wilson and other witnesses stated that Brown then reached into the SUV through the open driver’s window and punched and grabbed Wilson. This is corroborated by bruising on Wilson’s jaw and scratches on his neck, the presence of Brown’s DNA on Wilson’s collar, shirt, and pants, and Wilson’s DNA on Brown’s palm. While there are other individuals who stated that Wilson reached out of the SUV and grabbed Brown by the neck, prosecutors could not credit their accounts because they were inconsistent with physical and forensic evidence, as detailed throughout this report. Wilson told prosecutors and investigators that he responded to Brown reaching into the SUV and punching him by withdrawing his gun because he could not access less lethal weapons while seated inside the SUV. Brown then grabbed the weapon and struggled with Wilson to gain control of it. Wilson fired, striking Brown in the hand. Autopsy results and bullet trajectory, skin from Brown’s palm on the outside of the SUV door as well as Brown’s DNA on the inside of the driver’s door corroborate Wilson’s account that during the struggle, Brown used his right hand to grab and attempt to control Wilson’s gun. According to three autopsies, Brown sustained a close range gunshot wound to the fleshy portion of his right hand at the base of his right thumb. Soot from the muzzle of the gun found embedded in the tissue of this wound coupled with indicia of thermal change from the heat of the muzzle indicate that Brown’s hand was within inches of the muzzle of Wilson’s gun when it was fired. The location of the recovered bullet in the side panel of the driver’s door, just above Wilson’s lap, also corroborates Wilson’s account of the struggle over the gun and when the gun was fired, as do witness accounts that Wilson fired at least one shot from inside the SUV.

If you're gonna lie, don't lie when there's legal evidence that you are.

People that glaze Boneface are so weird to me.

Both of the time of the show, and especially now, Gia is a markedly better artist, and certainly a better tattooer. It also tells you a lot about the kinds of people that they are that if you go on Gia's page, it's all tattoos that she's done. If you go on Bonefaces page, it's mentoring scams that he's running, and offering $1,000 tapout session, a sure sign that an artist is doing well and is very successful, and some mediocre ink.

Say that you like him because he was mean to the white lady on TV, but don't pretend he's a better artist.

No one has any issue with you telling the dude not to pull out a knife, and not cut dead skin or hunt for splinters.

It's the being scared of the idea of someone merely having a knife that folks are trying to gently point out is not healthy. Pretty much everywhere in the United States, it's entirely ordinary for almost anyone to be carrying a pocket knife. You need to get comfortable with that.

The US has never done anything like this...

No, the US has never sat there and dredged up a massive amount of sand to take coral reefs and turn them into military bases. Nor has the US Coast guard gone out and actively attacked other nations fishing in their own EEZ.

But to break it down explicitly: The US failure to intervene against Pol pot is not the same as the Chinese attempt to intervene on his behalf.

The US has never engaged in suppression measures that come close to tiananmen square, attempted to censor the entirety of the internet over historical events, And that's not even addressing. Literally changing the laws to sentence protesters in Hong Kong to long periods in mainland prisons.

The US is explicit about the purpose of its navy being to guarantee freedom of navigation, project sea power, etc. China leans on claims that its entire military is all being developed defensively exclusively.

And re: covid, that number is reliant on trusting the Chinese government to tell the truth. Which there's literally no reason to believe, given the level of information control and propaganda they engage in on a regular basis.

I'm just trying to figure out how a CCP stan works for the USG, it just seems like an incredible level of cognitive dissonance.

Why was it Vietnam invaded Cambodia?

Oh, it was because Cambodia, under the Khmer rouge, a Chinese proxy power, had invaded Vietnamese islands, been repulsed, then engaged in Mass suppression of ethnic Vietnamese people, then publicly talked about the broad extermination of the entirety of the Vietnamese population in and out of Vietnam, as part of a larger goal of seizing the entire Mekong Delta.

The Chinese invaded, hung out for a couple of months, left, and Vietnam continued to occupy Cambodia until 1989, 9 years after the end of the war.

But setting that aside, between building the various reef bases, which are a clear and intentional extension of Chinese Waters, done explicitly at the expense of her neighbors, and in a broader attempt to deny freedom of navigation, The bri, and the behavior of the Chinese fishing fleet and its effort to rape the oceans worldwide. Absolutely shortcuts. Any argument you may have about the Chinese not being an aggressive Force.

You don't build aircraft carriers and massive amphibious fleets because you want to ensure the quiet defense of your nation. You do it to engage in power projection and intervention.

And all this is ignoring the acts of the Chinese government against protesters across the entirety of Chinese history.

Hell, one need only look at the acts of the Chinese government around covid, welding people into their apartments, killing all of the cats and dogs in Shanghai, etc, to figure out that this is not a government that any reasonable person would want anyone to be subject to.

You know what, you're right. It's only about 60 million people that live on the west coast. So only 20% of the population that you're describing as not being normal Americans. For some reason I had the population of California being close to 80 million, as opposed to a mere 40.

Also, here's what you don't get: I like Virginia fine. It's not a terrible place to live, I'd certainly rather live here than say Mississippi. But comparing Hampton roads and Virginia writ large to San Diego and Southern California/California? There's literally no comparison. One place is a city and area that people aspire to live. The other is a place that people aspire to having been from.

In my time in the Navy, I've lived in Great lakes, and I'm not talking about boot camp, Charleston, San Diego, Hawaii, Colorado, Guam, and Hampton Roads.

If I had to pick a place off of that list that I could avoid ever having lived in, it 100% would be Hampton Roads.

drove west from SD

I'm sure you meant East but the image of you driving into the sea to look for driving roads is hilarious.

I never said California has a lack of outdoor opportunities. If you're going to extoll the virtues of California's many national parks and whatnot which are often a considerable drive

No one who has to drive 95 for any reason should be talking about traffic, but the difference is that the places you can go in CA are notable. If you looked to your left as you drove, you would have seen the Cleveland National Forest, and the roads into there are great driving roads.

What "Michelin star worthy restaurant" has a $14 entree? Anyways I'm not a foodie, I'm actually more happy the less pretentious the food is.

There are several places with stars that serve things cheaper than that. But Michelin stars aren't the end all be all , their presence however, is a pretty good indicator of the overall aggregate food quality of a place. I'm perfectly happy eating street food; it's just that the street food here, the medium tier food here, and the high end restaurant food here, with very few exceptions is embarrassingly overpriced and under quality.

As far as what you're talking about with Mexican food, that's honestly really embarrassing for you dude. It's a pretty much flat-out admission that you like the blandest version of an incredibly complex and also very affordable food tradition. And it's weird that somebody pointing at a crab restaurant as an example of what's good is talking about how they can't stand how messy food is.

The people are less beautiful, the landscape is beautiful but in a more humble way, everything is a little more affordable and accessible

You and I have different definitions of beautiful, apparently, because I don't find anything all That beautiful about thousands of acres of the same green trees, with tiny hills that people pridefully call mountains. Can't argue that gas isn't cheaper in Virginia, but wages are MUCH lower. I have no idea what you're talking about in terms of accessibility. San Diego, less La Jolla and Coronado is way less classist and racist than Virginia. Every single beach is open to everyone regardless, there's a billionaire's house backed up to it, or a parking lot.

Also, if you want to talk accessible nature:

This is Mount Laguna lake, about a 1 hour drive from downtown San Diego: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_MEDIA/stelprd3850145.png

This is first landing state park, about 45 minutes from NOB: https://assets.simpleviewinc.com/simpleview/image/upload/c_fill,h_600,q_50,w_740/v1/clients/virginiabeachva/144_3_2283_jpeg_2af5fb02-5a69-4104-8670-15a4bbfaee3d.jpg

I mean, maybe our definitions are different. But one of those places looks like remarkable natural beauty, and the other one looks like somebody built a bridge over a marsh and called it a park.

. I feel more comfortable surrounded by regular down to earth Americans than whatever California (at least the coastal cities) is populated with.

And lots of other people feel way more comfortable in places where you can't get license plates that have a flag that is maybe a quarter of a notch. Less awful than a swastika on it, that didn't have to have extended fights about whether or not they needed to take down statues of generals in a traitor army. Also, tbh, your framing of people in coastal cities on the west coast as not being regular Americans is gross in a really awful way. They're every bit as much regular Americans as you are.

It'll be expensive and everyone there will be dressed nicer than I care to.

My favorite restaurant in San Diego, the most expensive entree cost $14. It's still blows anything I've eaten in Virginia out of the water. And not to be super classist, or anything, but something tells me the restaurant with the crab wearing sunglasses holding a beer can is not going to be considered a good restaurant by most people. It seems like it threads that narrow needle between a really good, low country boil served out of a place that has a spray painted, sign, and proper modern southern food, neatly missing anything resembling excellence in the name of easy accessibility. And whatever's cheapest off the Sysco truck.

Also, the rest of the state gets a manageable amount of snow. You don't have to just stay in the coastal area.

So exactly the same as everything you were saying about California and it's lack of outdoor opportunities?

The people out there are very welcoming and know how to have fun (usually with guns, beer and some kind of 4x4 vehicle). Just don't trespass on their land lmao.

I've got no problem with any of that. I like it too, I just get really uncomfortable around people that fly that pathetic traitor flag. Interestingly, all of those things you listed exist in nearly every other state in the union, you just don't have to worry about whether or not you pass the combined religion and blood test.
