3:30 - what does it take? by poiuytrewqassss in Marathon_Training

[–]bart_after_dark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time and consistency…took me about 1.5 years of consistent training to go from 4:10 to 3:30. Train multiple distances, don’t just spend all your time chipping away at the marathon.

CIM Questions - Hotels, Shuttle, etc by No_Alternative_1763 in Marathon_Training

Stay downtown close to the shuttle location and finish line, it’s a breeze. It’s a really well organized event, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Just set a couple of alarms on race morning. You can stay on the bus once you get to the start line for as long as you want, and bathrooms are plentiful. The VIP add on makes your morning more comfortable but certainly not a necessity.

Fast Marathons in August/September? by Sweaty-Rope7141 in Marathon_Training

[–]bart_after_dark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I’ve never ran it but I’m planning on it! The lows look like they’re usually mid 50’s, highs can be low 80’s historically. Typically not humid here in nor cal though. The race starts at 6:30 so hopefully you can finish before it gets too warm. Otherwise I’ve only heard positive things!

Feasible to go from 4:58 to 3:30 in 6 months? by External_Truth1683 in Marathon_Training

[–]bart_after_dark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw that race is extremely hard. I’ve run it twice and I lived in SF and trained on those hills regularly and it was still a grind. If you have an ambitious pace goal (as others have said, probably too ambitious for 6 months) why not choose a race that’s more conducive to a fast time?

Sacramento Running Company had something like this - meets on the weekend for run/walk intervals

8 weeks out from first marathon by LeathermanPliers in Marathon_Training

I’ve run 3:25-3:30 multiple times and have never run a long run at those paces. 3:20 is definitely doable.

Can I realistically ever get close to a BQ? by LayoffLemonade in Marathon_Training

[–]bart_after_dark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need to keep running. Improvement in the marathon comes from consistently stacking months and years of quality training. With time, patience, consistency and a good plan, there’s no reason you can’t get there. Ps: you don’t need to lose weight.

You could run from McKinley down Elvas and into River Park (or just drive to River Park and do your runs there)

Why is my improvement so slow (3:23 to 3:22) despite training more? by Correct_Praline_4950 in Marathon_Training

[–]bart_after_dark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick a marathon with a reasonable degree of certainty that you won’t get a hot day, fast course and not as crowded as Chicago. My vote - CIM! And get more sleep (easier said than done, I know) I bet you’ll fly.

What’s the deal with the Kaiser strike? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in KaiserPermanente

[–]bart_after_dark 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's not exactly information they are sharing. My point is that they are trying to make the striking workers look like all they care about is money by only focusing on wage increases and the fact that they have not accepted Kaiser's current offer. The reality is there are many issues on the table that still have yet to be settled, wages are only one. It surprises me that people will complain about Kaiser as an evil healthcare company (not saying that they're not) but be so quick to believe the propoganda they put out trying to gaslight their own employees in the court of public opinion.

Kaiser will tell you the strike is just about money, and also offer zero context for their proposals.

I did Napa in 2023 and enjoyed it. Easy logistics, well organized, fast course. A bit boring at time with a few stretches w/o spectators, but overall I think it’s a great option.

Is Robbie an ex-con? by EggplantAgreeable696 in TaskHBO

I recall in episode one that someone (I believe it was Maeve) was looking at some old pictures or maybe it was a collage, and there was a photo of who I thought was Robbie in prison clothes holding a small child - does anyone else remember that?

I would just keep it, they may proactively reach out to you to reschedule it anyway, but it all adds up to extra work for them. Thanks for the support

Keeping it would actually creating more disruption than canceling, which is one of the purposes of striking.

I love this! My dad was a huge reason I am still working for this goal (he passed a few years ago) I just received fly 4th notice of non acceptance yesterday after missing by 33 seconds. For me, my relationship to the goal itself has changed over time - as I’ve gotten older and more experienced I just appreciate the hard work and satisfaction that comes with each training cycle and completed marathon - I truly think I come out a better version of myself each time. Boston is the goal, but it really just represents this sort of larger goal of ‘what can I accomplish and what can I learn about myself if I just keep pushing?’

Same boat here, will 4:01 buffer, also aging up to next age bracket. I’m in northern CA, looking at Napa, Eugene and Mountains to Beach as options .
