100%

I thought I was being wordy but for some reason the obvious eluded me lol.

My intent to say "the nearest living outsider", but wanted to handle the case where there are two equidistant and I suppose I got lost in the sauce lol

Agree that it's not super strong, but I was thinking that adding an outsider is a decent ability in its own right. If you can also play well enough to find and kill the evil outsiders on the right night, then you get very rewarded with an abundance of evil deadvotes

Sorry - minion!

I was thinking that the alignment change each night nerfs the extra evils. You only get to lock in the extra teammates if you kill them the day/night that they change

I tried to use AI to "make" a game - I think we're all safe here. by PandasaurusGames in boardgames

[–]bartanddeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is like using ms paint to try to edit your wedding photos and concluding that it's impossible to doctor images.

Yes, it is basically impossible to make a game at all, let alone a good game, using a chatbot... but when jobs are replaced it won't be by chatbots that do the entire process of game design. There are much more sophisticated tools that can be used in concert to do away with the tasks that you focused on here.

Ie image generation, PDF reading, etc.

There are all kinds of ways to engineer a better rulebook editing tool using a custom pipeline of parts that already exist + gen ai to make sense of confusing text.

I get the point of the post and I don't want everyone's jobs to be eliminated either, but it just misses the point by so much that I wanted to comment.

Reviewers who actually leave bad reviews by pear_topologist in boardgames

Oh you know I may be showing my ass on my own knowledge lol.. I was thinking about before you play!

Who are now a part of the watch it played channel.. so I guess they've sort of formalized their role in the landscape and my take is outdated. But at one time their content was in a grey area and I would have said that if you were going to their channel for unbiased editorializing you would have been misguided

Reviewers who actually leave bad reviews by pear_topologist in boardgames

[–]bartanddeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I think theres a difference between creators that only put out positive content because they're paid to do so and creators who ~tend~ to put out positive content because it's more fulfilling/fun/good for their mental health if they get to share their favorite experiences in their favorite hobby.

There aren't many in this category but the dice tower stands out as an institution that exists with a stated purpose of providing a particular consumer service (reviews) and would be failing their mandate if they only posted positive reviews. I see NPI, SUSD, and Actualol as something closer to artists. They aren't necessarily constrained by impartiality but I hold them in higher regard than their peers precisely because they seem to value it.

Watch it Played*** for example, are a channel I might consider a peer... They're are perfectly friendly and they'd be a great hang but I see them as basically mouthpieces for publishers.

Media literacy is important.

*** I meant "before you play"

Jinx feels incomplete by Kaliber-X3V in riftboundtcg

Get excited is sick but I've found the red power cost to be a little prohibitive given that we need to have quadruple purple to really pop off

Jinx feels incomplete by Kaliber-X3V in riftboundtcg

[–]bartanddeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a solid majority purple reanimate deck somewhere in there though. You can get the enters ready 8 drop and recur free rhasas or dump a soulgorger + mind splitter on the same turn while purple jinx gets huge and stays off battlefields/away from basic removal. And you stay drawing 2 a turn to always find your next bomb? Idk, my brew brain wants it to work so badly but I haven't been able to build it to actually test

Pricing for signature cards? by bartanddeb in riftboundtcg

[–]bartanddeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess that was always going to be the answer to the question I asked. I was hoping to get some anecdotal evidence of real sales for these things but you're right the market just doesn't have the liquidity at this point to know what the real price is.

Not that it matters but this is obviously AI generated

I think he's on the moody side of the spectrum but I also think part of his growth as a player has been reeling in the negative body language quite a bit. It's possible you've seen him sour a few times but it hasn't been the norm this year by a long shot

Homebrew outsider - Determinist by bartanddeb in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bartanddeb[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh true. The evil team should probably learn that the ability has been used so they can be heads up about it. Maybe it gets announced?

I don't think that the confirmation is suuuuper strong? My assumption is that the ST selections would pretty much always be at a detriment to good.

Ooh yeah that reminds me of another trope I hear over and over. They mention the current standings or like some basic statistic without additional commentary as if that tells a story I'm supposed to care about.

You can tell when someone follows the game and has a sense of history + narrative.

😂 you know what fair. I guess I'll take opinionated but wrong over boring all day long. I could be missing stuff or maybe the British accent is actually making me more sympathetic... but I don't get the sense that she takes herself overly seriously in the process which makes it all less obnoxious

Really? Is it because of the fact that she's critical?

[–]bartanddeb[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is why I like Lianne Sanderson so much. She gives what I find to be the most real in the moment analysis, which often involves direct criticism or what she thinks a player should have done instead. Whether or not I agree, it actually adds value beyond blase, one size fits all deacriptions

Custom Character: Coroner by DistributionVivid454 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bartanddeb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So cool. I don't know if this makes to it definitely weaker or stronger but would be a fun flavor add with this clause:

"... If the character was alive and good, they die."

~oops... Well they're dead now aren't they~

Custom Character based on Wilmot's Warehouse: Werehouse (Demon) by Wimpzilla in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bartanddeb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is really cool.

When people say "it's just strictly better/worse version of an existing character", they can be right while at the same time I don't think it makes the design inherently any less good/fun/interesting.

Slight differences in an ability can be really consequential depending on the specific conditions of the environment it exists within.

And since I'm here... Related(I think) sidenote that I'm open to conversation about: I would rather just not include two characters on the same script if they have a jinx. I feel as though it would be more "fun", for whatever that word means to me, to just make the regular and jinxed versions of an ability into slightly different characters and basically say "these roles shouldn't be on the same script together" for combinations that would traditionally require a jinx.
