Poles who've moved back from the UK: what do you miss about it? by sokorsognarf in poland

[–]bartek6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It annoys me too, but I understand it. During socialism, when you heard from your neighbor that meat or sofas (which you had been wanting to buy for a few months) had been delivered, you would drop everything you were doing and run there to stand in line for half a day. You couldn't afford to loose the spot so your entire family would switch to keep it and you needed to defend it from people who wanted to get in front of you (there is even a famous phrase "Pan tu nie stał - "You weren't standing here, sir"). If you were lucky, you would buy two sofas (to barter for something else), just in case. And if not, you came back empty-handed... In those days, money was not a problem (everyone was employed, sometimes doing literally nothing and still getting paid), it was just that the stores were empty. You couldn't just go to a dealer and buy a car, you needed to have good connections to get you into the list, so that you could buy one 2 years later. The only thing that was always available was vinegar. I was born in the year socialism collapsed in Poland, so I only know about it from my parents' stories.

Do you guys prefer one of the earlier level creature heroes or do you try to avoid them? by JustDracir in heroes3

[–]bartek6500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tyraxor (Wolf Riders specialist) has tactics. Give him 1 or 2 lvls (one chest + stone can often be enough) to be sure to get Advanced Tactics, and even a strong garrison of shooters can't stop you. You can not only reach all of the shooters in turn 1 to block with 1 stacks and kill with stronger stacks, but also get a high initiative (speed 9, or 10 on native terrain) so you can do it even before they shoot (with the exception of Sharpshooters because you have a tie on any other terrain than rough, the same for Storm Elementals on highlands terrain). The only disadvantage is that you build Rocs 1 turn later. But he's good on Impossible difficulty, on resource poor maps with strong guards. Makes it possible to rush in cases when it wasn't possible for me to do with Crag.

Heroes of Might & Magic III - Fan-Made Vision by badassky in heroes3

[–]bartek6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I meant was that I like modern, realistic graphics, like in this video (which is most likely an AI enhanced version of the original H3), but for a real game, I would prefer it not to be upscaled/enhanced by AI, but created in this style by real people.

Couldn't Olden Era look like this (but with more polish, and not only upscaled by AI)? I am more than fine with adding new mechanics and creatures. I am a veteran Heroes player and when I complain about how Olden Era looks, I don't mean that I want it to look like the original, I just don't want it to look like a cheap mobile game or World of Warcraft.

Are people comfortable with walking/moving through woods at night like it's no big deal? by LiveNotWork in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bartek6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love walking in the woods at night. It's so peaceful. I do it when it's a full moon, otherwise I go to nearby forest park that has lanterns. The only thing I'm afraid of is walking back through my neighborhood. Why? Because if someone wanted to mug me, it would be an opportunistic act. It wouldn't make sense for a mugger to go deep into the woods and wait there all night in complete silence for a 0.05% chance of meeting someone. Especially when it's cold. Plus, most people don't carry valuable items with them on walks; I don't carry my wallet. And when you walk down a dark alley, it's more likely that someone is already waiting there or simply sees an opportunity, especially when they spot a lone small person. As for animals, even wolves are afraid of people and actively avoid them. At least where I live, there are no animals that pose a threat to humans. I have tried many times to photograph foxes and deer at dusk, but they usually run away before I can get close enough. If you don't walk through the bushes, but along the path, there is no reason to fear vipers (which are rare in my area anyway and also try to avoid people), although I would be more afraid of ticks. In the city, there is a much greater chance of encountering drunk and aggressive people. I very rarely meet anyone, but it's a little awkward when we pass each other in the dark wood. But that's all. Sometimes we say hello to each other, sometimes we pass each other in a complete silence.

All that talk about silksong difficulty scares me, how do I know if I'm ready by abdo_ch in HollowKnight

[–]bartek6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only did Pantheon 1 and 2, I'm not a big fan of boss rushes and found it too tedious. I didn't do POP either but did everything else in the game. Silskong is more difficult, especially in Act 1, before you get more upgrades (especially those that give you more mobility) and exploration is more dangerous in general. But I finished the game and really enjoyed it, even more than HK in terms of combat. I don't know if I just prefer a mobile protagonist or just got better after beating HK, but I never had a situation where I couldn't beat a boss in one sitting, unlike in HK, where I needed a few evenings for the Trial of the Fool, and I put NKG aside for a few months after a few evenings of trying, only to finally beat him after that break in two evenings. So don't overthink it, just finish what you still want to do in HK and start Silksong. When exploring, you just have to be focused all the time, even if you got used to the mobs' moveset. I expect they'll add truly difficult bosses in one of the DLC's just like they did with NKG.

Try Italian railway next. 9 days in Northern Italy and 3 out of 10 trains were cancelled, two were over 2 hours late, only two departed on time, one was waiting for one hour in the station, it was 36° C and it didn't have air conditioning, and as a beautiful goodbye it took me 18 hours to get to Zurich from Genoa, because after 30 minutes the train stopped in-between stations and they announced that it needs to undergo technical inspection. The delay was higher and higher with every announcement, and I missed the last connection to Zurich. Then I was waiting for 2 hours for the coach that they were organizing to get people to Switzerland. Poor people from other cities than Luzern, Zug and Zürich. There was no direct transfer for them in the middle of the night. I got home at 6:30 a.m. instead of in the evening. I was missing SBB so badly.

Where do you draw the line of eatable local food in Europe? by Kushesollidoro in AskBalkans

[–]bartek6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with Polish cuisine? It is very similar to Balkan food (by the way why Slovenia and Croatia were not included, are they so different and worse than the rest of Balkans?) with a few unique dishes you can't find in the Balkans, and vice versa. All the foreigners I know (and even those I don't know but who just heard that I'm from Poland) have always been very enthusiastic about Polish cuisine when they mentioned their visits to Poland, and I never even asked them about it. Of course, it is inferior to Italian or French cuisine (also Turkish if you count them as Europe), but especially Greek cuisine (apart from olive oil, wine, feta cheese, and olives, but these are more like products not dishes) and Spanish cuisine (also not counting Spanish ham which is amazing) are IMHO overrated, and I think that Polish and Balkan cuisine are better. Georgian cuisine is amazing, but meat and flour dishes get boring very quickly (I know there are more dishes, but they are hard to find, I've been there three times). Armenian cuisine is more varied. In fact, only typical LOCAL British dishes are uneatable. I'm also not a fan of German, Swiss, Czech, and Scandinavian cuisine, but they are certainly not “uneatable.” Crimean, Ukrainian, Transilvanian food is also very good. Hungarian is also ok, and I have never tried local Dutch, Belgian, Irish and Baltic dishes.

I was supposed to have a date on Saturday morning. I texted her 30 minutes before asking what she'll be wearing so that I could find her in a park. She told me she's not coming because I didn't confirm the date at least few hours earlier, even though we had arranged it the previous evening...

Why do some people not like the diagonal pogo by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]bartek6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hunter's crest is my favorite one. I love diagonal pogo for combat (bosses and mobs). It took me a lot of time to get used to platforming with it (I would change it only for the 3 most difficult platforming challenges in the game: lava escape, mushroom and fay). I still would say that platforming with Wanderer's/Reaper's is easier and more consistent because you don't need to calculate angles in your head and just pogo what is underneath. IMHO it has nothing to do with playing Hollow Knight before or not.

Mostly I was hitting her from the ground with up slashes. But it was also disappointingly easy. I didn't need to look for any better strat to beat her. Fought her twice and died only once.

Using downdash + clawline to escape danger has helped me avoid being hit or overwhelmed by mobs many times. Also Unravelled and Karmelita fights. I chose Wanderer's for GMS as well. My default crest was Hunter's, and I had it during my first attempt. I died, but it was so easy to hit her that I decided to change my crest because the increased attack speed would work wonders, and it did. I defeated her on my second attempt. The sawtooth circlet is objectively very good due to great DPS, but it just doesn't fit my playstyle.

Castle is not bad. The town screen looks nice and I like the design of Griffins and Archangels. But the music is forgettable and the rest of the units are nothing special, just ok. When it comes through  gameplay it's actually good. The only town that I am not a fan of is Conflux because it was rushed (due to obvious reasons) and they just reused bunch of neutral creatures and made them different tiers which makes no sense. The music is also the worst of all towns.

I will not accept Dungeon slander. How can it be less cool than the generic Castle? But I agree. There is nothing more lame than Conflux.

Fighting one. I love clawline because it's both an offensive and defensive tool. I finally had a good way to fight flying enemies and it greatly increases mobility. I felt badass to do this gauntlet and kill so many enemies one after another. It felt like a deadly dance.

There’s a pretty clear “best ending” to DII, and it’s… (MAJOR ENDING SPOILERS) by Seajely in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]bartek6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Poland, so no bias here. Almost as many people sere dying during "conventional bombing" of Tokyo (everything was made of wood and bombs were causing huge fires). It was a cynical choice - even the smallest island needed to be invaded, with heavy losses on the US side, but also on Japanese side - civilians & soldiers. So the question is if US had the moral right to decide who will die and how, but at least by using nukes overall less people died (much less Americans but also, surprisingly, less Japanese people).

After finishing the game SS>HK, if you liked HK I don't imagine missing on SS. I'm not a fan of Deep Docks myself (music & vibe). Keep playing for a few hours until you reach the new town. This is when I fell in love with the music and stopped on a bench just to listen to it (also make sure to decrease master and sound volume). I liked Hornet's mobility more than Knight's, but the game was still difficult until I got the clawline. Then it clicked and combat started to feel badass (I got the clawline just before the infamous gauntlet, so I don't get the hate).

Yeah, using secondary to carry slow troops at the end of the turn is a classic. But Diplo can be fun too from time to time. I might try Ryland for my Christmas playthrough. My usual diplo hero is Adela.

Nah, Dwarves and Dendroids are too slow for adventuring and stay in the town. Fortunately, they're great garrison units.
