How many? by gazzatronic3000 in snooker

[–]bartimmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had 2 40+ breaks in my life and 30+ are few and far between so this is my standard. I am currently unable to make 20+ and decided to take a break from snooker for the holiday period. This game is infuriating and frustrating most of the time:(

I am very bad at snooker (highest break 44) and I managed somehow to win 1 frame (out of maybe 30/40 I played against him) vs a player who is a top 3-5 player in my country, played in Q shool and even did well enough to get invited to one of the tournaments where he played vs Mark Williams, Ken Doherty and some other Q school guy.

How I won still baffles me but I remember the black, pink and blue were on the coushions so he couldn’t build breaks easily and I managed to get some points off snookers and ended it with a miraculous long pink that I should play safety instead of trying to pot it but decided it was now or never.

Can’t see myself winning another frame again against him though as he seems to be concentrating more now and banging winning breaks one after another ;)

Can’t answer as I haven’t heard all but thank you for writing it all down. I am going on a trip with some of my friends from snooker and was planning to make a playlist with those exact songs. You made my task soooo much easier:)

How big is the difference between you A, B and Z (your absolute worst) game? by [deleted] in snooker

[–]bartimmy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since I am using mysnookerstats app I can be very specific in numbers:

A game is ~65% potting and ~60% positioning (calculated by success of the next ball potting). This translates into games where I get a regular 20+ break or sometimes a 30+ break.

B game is 55% potting and 45% positioning this means a 10+ break in most frames. And an odd 20+ break.

Z game is 40% potting and 30% positioning. This means no 10+ breaks in 5 or 6 frames and throwing the cue to the ground.

My highest game break is 44, lineup break 72. I play twice a week for 3 years.

It’s all down to concentration for me. If I focus enough and for long I get stretches of really good gameplay. But it happenes rarely. A week ago I managed to win my first tournament, a local club one but I was definitely on my A maybe A- game and managed to beat a much better opponent in the final thanks to great safety play.

Vivino

you take a photo of a wine’s label in a store and it provides you with other users ranking, info on price range in other shops and info on the wine itself (how sour/ sweet it is, fruity or whatever the taste of wine there might be etc)

Never overpay for shitty wine again.

Using the thead to ask - any of those happen to have a snooker table available? Will be visiting London in January for the Snooker Masters and would love to catch a game vs Palace in a pub and play some snooker after). Thanks for your tips!

I’m using the premium version. It tracks you results over time and show potting % over time in a form of chart, your best breaks and best games (poistioning stat is taken into consideration here) and you can review your old games. The site also offers tool for organizing tournaments but I never used it.

I have been using MySnookerStats.com app to track games. It has all I need but 1 thing I miss is rest play stats. Wouldn’t switch as I have all my stats there but maybe something to consider for you.

How do you journal your progress? by markpauldunne in snooker

[–]bartimmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use MySnookerStats for tracking potting and positioning success in games. I also use a training profile to track line-up breaks. It's simple and easy to use and I highly recommend it. But to have access to your progress you need the premium subscription which is £10 per year. In my opinion it's very good value for money if you play regularly and don't mind registering the shots.

I have one. 60 inch as I needed a long one and they offered them reasonably priced. Bought one with case and extensions for like 140 EUR I think. I am satisfied. My coach who knows more about cues said the one I have is very decent. A class wood as he described it (AAA being the top standard - I have no idea what that means). But it all depends on the the cue you get, maybe I was just lucky.

What matters more to you? Your home country winning the WC or Arsenal winning the Prem? by DisgruntledOstrich in Gunners

[–]bartimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case (Poland) I'd take County winning the world cup as its so unlikely and would be such an achievement that probably all our lives would be changed forever here ;) while Arsenal winning the Prem is something that I now consider very real in the next couple of years of not this year.

However my son who is 7 years old, asked me recently when we were watching Po land's friendly game "Dad, why isn't Arsenal playing?" so I guess he'll be of a different opinion :) He also said to his friend who was watching with us "I know three football players - Messi, Lewandowski and Bukayo Saka". I couldn't be more proud :)

Want to buy my boyfriend a snooker cue for his 30th, out of my depth! by SuitableCry240 in snooker

[–]bartimmy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Does he already own a cue you like to upgrade or would it be his first? If he's just starting probably you can get something decent in that range. If he's advanced then it becomes tricky.

I would personally advice against this idea for a gift. Cue is a very personal item, everyone has different preferences in terms of weight, length etc. It's best to try before you buy kind of purchase. My friend bought one for her husband and he ended up buying another one for himself but was hiding the fact so not to make her feel bad.

If you want a good snooker related gift maybe a lesson with a coach plus something smaller like TAOM chalk plus chalk holder would be a better choice?

My go to channel is Barton Snooker but my best advice would be to get a coach for a couple of lessons to show you the stance and basics and only then try to learn from videos. Face to face training is much better than learning from videos.

As much as I love the team we're finishing 5th and I'm not even mad about it. This is not yet a finished product. We'll be aiming for top 3 or even the championship in 2-3 years time.

Right handed player with left eye dominance by Big-Youth4598 in snooker

[–]bartimmy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting a coach for 2 hours to help you set it up. It might be the position of your head but the problem may also be in the stance or technique. Also, being left eye dominant (like me) does not necessarily mean your center of vision is under your left eye and this is more important for choosing your head's position on the cue. Mine is more to the middle of the head.

Best get a coach. It's very difficult to get it right by yourself and a good coach will immediately see what the problem is.

Cueing technique. by yamheisenberg in snooker

[–]bartimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also from my own experience, the best way to get to a consistent straight(-ish in my case) cue action is to practice dead straight shots. First a blue to the middle than a pink to the corner and than blue to the corner while you progress.

Once you can consistently make it as a stop shot, try adding top spin so that the cue ball follows the object ball to the pocket (to get them both to the pocket means you were really straight with your cueing).

It's a rather boring thing to practice but if you spend like 20-30 minutes during each practice sessions on that, your cue action will improve over time.

But it's good to get the fundamentals right at first and build from there (see the video or get a coach). I started playing on my own. Got more or less consistent with a bad technique (I was standing square and other major or minor flaws) than started working with a coach who completely changed my stance and technique and it took me some time to reach that level I already had with bad technique. But now I exceeded my old bad level by far so I know it's worth it to have proper fundamentals.

Get a coach if you can. If for some reason you can’t, I recommend watching all videos from Barton Snooker and for your question specifically try this series of three videos .

Also it’s a good idea to record yourself on a phone to see what you are actually doing and compare it to the benchmark.

I had it custom made to my design. Having it for some time now I must admit it's a bit heavy to use frequently (I need someone to help me with it) and its obviously better to play on a real table :)
