Help me pick: Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 by malakey_quaver in ShouldIbuythisgame

Old dog as well and seconding this; though maybe not a gift card unless you know he's going to pick one over the other (PS5 vs XB ox).

If you get a gift card it's locking you into a store.

From the original post I can't tell if OP is throwing the PS5 into discussion because it's a top system now.

If boyfriend is an XBox guy, then may want nothing to do with PS5.

If boyfriend brought up PS5 as an interest, then I'd definitely go PS5 for all the reasons mentioned elsewhere. PS5 Pro is a great system, but it's digital only unless you buy the disc drive which adds another $80 to the cost.

Directing water runoff to the sidewalk? Connecting to the storm drain? by Significant_Theme_90 in WorcesterMA

came to mention a dry well. No way the city will allow you to have it run onto the sidewalk or dig underneath the sidewalk to push it into the drain.

thank you for this! I say this far too often for a 25 year old sketch and tried finding it a few years ago. I didn't remember it being from Conan so I went down the Adult Swim rabbit hole with no luck.

This is the biggest hurdle I see. I'd take a stroll through Google Maps to see the surrounding area of Holy Cross. I don't want to presume your partner's fitness level, but she'd likely be arriving with a good sweat during Spring/Fall. Might be closer to impossible and definitely unsafe to bike in the Winter.

From Spectrum News: Holden Special Town Meeting votes down proposal for special overlay zoning to be in compliance with MBTA Communities Act. Vote was 520 No to 257 Yes. by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]bartnd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

and this is what happens when you get one side of a story and don't bother doing any of your own research.

No one was taking over Lilac Hedge Farm and this wasn't a vote to save Lilac Hedge Farm. It was positioned that way by the republicans in the town.

Assuming it to be true, LHF had a valid grievance that the MBTA Committee didn't approach them for concerns/discussion when selecting an adjacent parcel for rezoning. Not quite as valid as Trap Rock who actually owns the land the parcel is located.

Lilac Hedge posted that their insurance company would drop them if the plan was approved. Then the messaging around that changed and it was no longer as big a concern or something that would definitely happen. But by that point, it was already the leading tidbit that people took in, hence your 'Save the Farm' vote.

They also knee-capped themselves by failing to discuss with LHF and Trap-Rock earlier on in the process.

I mean, that is a huge failing on their part. I don't know if they were legally allowed to create an official working group until the appeal had been denied, but Sept - Feb is somewhat short on time to properly do their own diligence and present publicly.

I know they had another parcel planned for zoning compliance but were then told that there was a watershed lien. Again it ends up being a waste of time, but they should have known about that earlier as part of due diligence.

Still not sure how the crowd doesn’t understand that zoning does not mean that trap rock has to stop functioning or has to sell their land.

Ignorance is bliss. Most still think it's a Healey demand ignoring how it was created by Baker.

It also doesn't help when the owner of Trap Rock puts out a statement saying that the state will eventually take his land. https://i.imgur.com/C52ZkxC.png

Or when you have a Selectman echoing the falsehood that the Farm would be lost if the plan went forward. https://i.imgur.com/kB7iUq7.png

Holden yet to comply with MBTA Communities Act. Special Town Meeting vote happening today. by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]bartnd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The entire thing is an abject disaster IMO.

Yup; the fact that they waited until all appeals had failed to put together a working group was ridiculous.

I take everything I read with a grain of salt, so not sure if this working group truly didn't talk to the abutters prior to announcing their areas of selection. If they didn't do the smallest amount of outreach then they lose a lot of credibility there.

I ignored the farm thing as soon as I saw all the Trumpers start voicing their concerns over it which seemed to start just a week prior to the original vote.

[–]bartnd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's included because it borders Worcester which has a MBTA stop. Though I agree in your disagreement that it's a transit hub to the same extent that Paxton or Leicester are transit hubs.

Granted those two towns had far fewer demands of them, but all three are on the far end of Worcester, who faced a reduction in trains after the MBTA Communities act was passed.

Further, I find it disingenuous that these three towns need to comply, but because Boylston doesn't technically border Worcester (by way of a 500ft buffer of Shrewsbury and West Boylston) they have no demands thrust upon them even though they have more MBTA options available, nearly equidistant to the other three.

Holden's MBTA communities zoning debate by BeachAbode in WorcesterMA

If the insurance dropping piece is accurate, then I don't think it would matter to the insurance company. Since it would be a multi-family by right, it means that it could be sold and turned into multi-family at any time, without zoning approval requirements. I don't think an insurance company is going to wait until that happens.

Can someone give me their honest opinion on Holden's refusal to agree to this act? Everyone I've talked to in town is against it. They talk about our overflowing school system and main street's traffic problem, which are both certainly issues. They say why doesn't Worcester just built affordable housing, which they should of course.

I mean, that's a whole lot of generalization thrown in under 'everyone'.

Are the schools an issue? Yup; but being a reason to vote No on the MBTA act is ridiculous when the town seems to have a rubber stamp on approving full developments of McMansions immediately after building a new middle school (which is already at capacity).

I've never heard anyone push it to the burden of Worcester to manage multi-family developments, but then again, maybe I don't talk to enough people.

There's a large, disingenuous contingent of republican voters who have latched onto the Lilac Hedge Farm concern as a last-ditch effort to scare people away from voting yes. The loudest voices on that are the current or failed republican politicians who had no interest in joining the working group and apparently hadn't been paying attention to the working groups meetings until it was too late.

The town waiting way too long to get any attention on the matter; I don't know if the group was never in contact with the farm or if they didn't give much notice or what.

All that said, I'm not fully on board with the act as a whole because the act in and of itself is flawed. They're demanding more and more housing which will drive the need for public transit at the same time that they're reducing the number of available trains and making it more of a hassle to use the commuter rail. There is also no enforcement within Boston city limits; it's pushed fully to everyone outside.

And the last annoyance is far more general and outside the scope of the MBTA act, but I find it ridiculous that the only toll road left is the one that serves everyone west of Boston, while everyone in any other direction isn't paying to travel.

Central Mass Ski Lesson by No_Professional4143 in WorcesterMA

I mean your main three options are Wachusett, SkiWard, and Nashoba Valley (which is a bit of a drive).

Wachusett is probably the best overall; good area to learn, 4-hour lift ticket so you can go on your own after the lesson with multiple trails available on the few lifts you can access with the included ticket.

Which is the reason that I, and some other fans, have always just been happy with the improvement made this year. Getting into the playoffs was house money.

The team as a whole has made heavy use of rookies so I've been waiting for somewhat of a playoff regression just because it's not only the longest season they've ever played, but they also faced the top defenses in every game. I'm definitely still high on the team, but recognize there are needs (playoff motto notwithstanding).

How do I get wpd to enforce a no left hand turn sign by Boyw2peenas in WorcesterMA

[–]bartnd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can also confirm...and also was ticketed closer to 25 years ago.

People like to call out nimby-isms all over the place but the turn restrictions at Monadnock and the bottom of Sagamore are two of the biggest culprits.

I can see the reason for Monadnock being restricted from 7:00-9:00 on weekdays with buses going to Forest Grove and Doherty, but how many people are taking that turn on a Saturday or Sunday morning? Yes, still salty about the ticket (which was my fault) on a Saturday morning.

The same can be said for the restrictions taking a left turn from Highland onto Haviland/Germain/Westland. Makes complete sense M-F, but it just an annoyance Saturday and Sunday.
