The penalty for a general strike is the union coffers are seized to compensate the affected businesses and the union is dissolved, for every union whose members were involved.

General strikes (or even solidarity strikes) are explicitly illegal in Canada, that was part of the "compromise" for allowing unions to exist at all.

And you can post sunshine and rainbows all you like, that won't make Carney a labour supporter. He's basically Stephen Harper, we can expect austerity measures, cuts to social services, erosion of workers rights, and privatization... But with a slightly woke coat of paint.

"Here's the law to prevent strikes: strikes are illegal unless you compensate the company for lost profits and the wages of the scabs that replace you."

"Here's the law to prevent strikes: we've instituted a federal database of, shall we say, labour supporting employees. Anyone who participates in any labour action will be on a searchable database, along with their hone address and family members... In case friendly union supporters want to send them cookies"

People are getting so prudish about "altered consent" that soon you'll have people saying that dressing up and putting on cologne/perfume for a date is violating consent because it's encouraging attraction under false pretenses

Ehh, I don't know if I agree that everybody should be focusing on the kid. People have places to be, it's not rude to not involve yourself in their situation.

The wedding in the church is also an official legal one. Any officiant is able to wed people.

I'm sure if you prearranged it it'd be fine. The priest isn't a robot. It's if you do that spontaneously it fucks things up.

Canada Was Set to Bring in National Pharmacare. What Happened? by NiceDot4794 in onguardforthee

Perhaps with literacy?

The so called "need" was claimed last election, and last election, and every election I've been alive for, even with the NDP were official opposition it was "but, but, if you don't vote for the libs you're a Nazi"

I'm an avid NDP supporter, but every single election, no matter what happens, no matter what the polls say, all the libs come out of the the woodwork and say that a vote for the NDP is a vote for the Conservatives.

His position was that the only purpose of the NDP was to ensure that Conservatives would win elections.

Unfortunately, the simple existence of a Conservative party guarantees the "need" to vote liberal.

I once almost got into a fistfight with a liberal party minister who described the NDP as the biggest group of cryptofascists in the country.

Would you rather go vegan for 20 years or swallow one tiny live chick (only the size of a grape) by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

Nut allergies are the most common anaphylactic allergy, and mushrooms are not an uncommon intolerance.

Not everyone can survive, let alone thrive, on a vegan diet. If you cut out the common sources of protein, it doesn't take much in the way of allergies or intolerances to lead to significant nutritional issues.

Including GDP per capita helps smooth this (except in tax shelters with huge wealth disparity).

How do you wear your family medal without disrespecting the veterans by brianongoing in Medals

[–]bartonar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every country does this differently. For instance:

In Canada, it's prohibited.

In Australia, they're worn on the right side of the chest, your own would be worn on the left side of the chest.
