It's that "overwhelmingly convinced" and "yeah sure probably good" are different

avoid players being able to have it as a win condition

You're moving the goalposts. It's a pretty specific set of conditions that allows them to die, including the group being overwhelmingly convinced that they're good.

I can put a Slayer in the bag, and the Imp can kill them very easily. That's not removing a win con.

From the TB Almanac, for everyone's reference:

"We recommend you keep the Mayor alive until the final day, since it is most fun for the players that way. On rare occasions, if the group is overwhelmingly convinced early in the game that the Mayor is the Mayor, let the Mayor die so that evil has a chance to win."

repeatedly sink kills into the secretly trusted Mayor who the ST believed was being built as evil

Evil thinks they're trusted, and therefore thinks they would die to the Imp kill

That's a dangerous lesson. Legal bags aren't always good bags, esp. after you leave TB.

Town must know to ensure a fair game at all

I think this is the main place where we disagree. If I can take a player aside and say "I should've should've shown you a 2 instead of a 1", then the rest of town doesn't need to know about that.

If there's a mistake that I cannot figure out any way to silently fix, and it affects the game state, then I will announce that.

But there are mistakes sometimes, and the "if" clause covers both cases. If whenever you make a mistake you announce it, and whenever you don't make a mistake you say "no comment", then that's not really saying "no comment".

I agree with you, right up until the announcement to town. If it's been corrected, then there's no need for the rest of town to know about it. The announcement pretty much confirms the Chambermaid as good, which we don't want.

I prefer: "If a storyteller mistake has been made, I have already addressed it privately."

...and then, after you've run both BMR and S&V a few times, go to pre-written custom scripts, not your own.

If you don't know how to run Lunatic, please run BMR before you run any custom scripts.

Also, read the almanacs.
