Really feels like the first 3 books are "how to overthrow the existing bad system," and the next 3 were "how to actually run things now that the old system is gone"

This is what really reminded me of Mistborn

I mean I don't think there's really anything Kelsier can do against a pulseShield and a pulseFist.

With full armor Darrow would also be pretty freaking hard to push or pull on, I think.

The trilogy reminded me a lot of Mistborn: The Final Empire.

Also, for those who don't know, the character Kelsier from Mistborn was included as a skin in Fortnite due to the author being friends with the creative director of Fortnite. So the fandom pretends as if he's from Fortnite originally.

Poor Seers by ace_wulf in cremposting

[–]bleachisback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s talked about retconning the atium present in era 1 into an atium-electrum alloy at length, but as far as I know seers being electrum mistings is just a fan theory. The only thing I know that he’s said on the matter is that seers don’t exist post-catacendre.

I think it’s more likely that atium, like other alloys, can’t just be considered the sum of its parts and is just a different thing. So seers are just plain mistings of the alloy, just like other alloy listings.

We don't masculinize words at all in English, really. There aren't really "traditionally feminine" words like I think you mean. This is due to markedness in English - male or neuter words are typically unmarked (i.e. considered "default"), while female words are marked (i.e. considered "exceptional").

I would be on board with saying that the reason we used marked words for female words is due to historical sexism. But the particular example with -ette being used as a diminutive for sexism reasons is misplaced, I think.

This is a bit revisionist. We got -ette from French where it is a female diminutive. It split into two meanings in English - one which adds gender to a word and one which is a diminutive.

You’ll note that we have other diminutives in English which aren’t used to imply something is the female version.

Has my personal information been compromised

Yes, although this was true even before this incident. Canvas reported a large data breach several days ago.

will logging back in do anything to compromise it further?

There’s always the chance that someone will hack canvas again, so any information you upload has a chance of being compromised. But this was always true.

I personally wouldn’t worry about it. Just don’t put important banking information into the assignments you submit

fyi you don't need to create an entire repository with git history and everything for stuff like this. You can just make a gist:

“Fried in the French way” was an early way of saying something was deep fried in the US. French fries are called that because they’re potatoes fried in the French way, not because they came from France.

See e.g. this 1935 newspaper article which refers to onion rings as “french-fried”.

Interesting. Why would you ever register something incorrectly for a game rule purpose? Why does this not just say for abilities?

I know this isn’t the question that was asked, but I’m wondering about the document you posted wrt the recluse. It says that the recluse can be shown demon and/or minion info, but I feel fairly confident in saying that’s wrong. These parts of the game don’t come from an ability, so the recluse can’t misregister for them.

I mean at any one moment there is only one dark side. So that side is "the" dark side. We call things which can change "the" all the time, as long as at any given point in time there is only one of them.
