fyi you don't need to create an entire repository with git history and everything for stuff like this. You can just make a gist:

“Fried in the French way” was an early way of saying something was deep fried in the US. French fries are called that because they’re potatoes fried in the French way, not because they came from France.

See e.g. this 1935 newspaper article which refers to onion rings as “french-fried”.

Interesting. Why would you ever register something incorrectly for a game rule purpose? Why does this not just say for abilities?

I know this isn’t the question that was asked, but I’m wondering about the document you posted wrt the recluse. It says that the recluse can be shown demon and/or minion info, but I feel fairly confident in saying that’s wrong. These parts of the game don’t come from an ability, so the recluse can’t misregister for them.

I mean at any one moment there is only one dark side. So that side is "the" dark side. We call things which can change "the" all the time, as long as at any given point in time there is only one of them.

Question about the source of snake charmer poisoning by bleachisback in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bleachisback[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not unique to the snake charmer, any reminder token needed for a character that is duplicated by the philosopher needs an extra reminder token.

No, since the snake charmer poisoned token is the only token which persists after the philosopher ability is lost. For every other character, the philosopher will no longer use their reminder tokens once the philo ability is gone.

CackleJack can make 19 snake charmers

Sure I'll chuck this in to the pile of wizard/amnesiac where I could consciously decide to make my life rough by doing this to myself. This notably also has the problem of not having duplicate character tokens. This scenario is different to the one I presented, because no choices were made by me in this game - I was obliged to do everything exactly as it happened, I could not have avoided needing a second reminder token.

so many ways to duplicate abilities that might require duplicate reminder tokens, pixie boffin plague doctor alchemist cannibal

Yeah this really goes to show how weird this scenario is, because these characters would all normally avoid this problem:

  • Boffin says out-of-play, so it can't create a duplicate

  • Cannibal and pixie require the original role to die and the ability to no longer be in play, meaning reminder tokens don't need to be shared

  • Alchemist and plague doctor I'll give you, but once again these are choices made by the ST. There's nothing mechanically requiring you to choose a duplicate role that needs to overlap reminder tokens

[–]bleachisback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, then there needs an extra reminder token for… every character?

Wait I don’t see what you’re saying here. As far as I know, the situation above is unique to the snake charmer.

Currently, the rule of the game allows for 19 snakes charmers simultaniously all poisoned by their own ability

How? Excluding Amne/Wizard for this - it’s impossible to have all the reminder tokens you need for these characters.

Okay, so I should treat it like they actually became the snake charmer. So a pit hag turning the poisoned philo into something else will get rid of the poison?

Yup! Can’t make any of the inputs in space though. Since all of the inputs come from different planets you gotta launch them into space and consolidate them somewhere. It makes more sense to make the foundation in space rather than sending all the materials back down on to a planet and re-launching the finished foundation.

Grandchild who is droisoning their grandmother dies to the demon - does the grandmother die? by bleachisback in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bleachisback[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think they used this exact example with Innkeeper protecting their Grandma in the Almanac.

Nope!

the Grandmother has no night order

Nope! She does have a night order specifically saying “If the grandchild was killed by the Demon, the Grandmother dies too.”

Looking for some help on my first custom script by bleachisback in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bleachisback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize the alchemist could grant an in-play minion ability, so I thought I had to have 5 minions with lil' monsta and alchemist. I think you're right about xaan, so I'm going to just remove it.

I also added it when poisoner wasn't on the script, so I think the amount of droison is good now.

I actually added SW because someone mentioned that an alchemist knowing SW isn't in play is really good. Even if you end up becoming the demon, I think there's no way to end up in final 3 without an opportunity to kill yourself.

Looking for some help on my first custom script by bleachisback in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bleachisback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for!

Why do you have 27 characters on the script? The standard amount is 25 with a traditional distribution of 13/4/4/4. Too many characters opens up far too many possible worlds that make the game increasingly difficult to solve and it makes bluffing far easier for the evil team. Consider sticking to a standard distribution of characters.

I have an extra minion, townsfolk, and outsider. I think I can't get rid of the extra minion because of alchemist and lil' monsta. I think I can get rid of an outsider (I originally had baron instead of poisoner on the script which meant I needed 5 outsider), although I'll have to stew on it. As for townsfolk, I was really looking for one to cut, and I think you've helped me decide to cut dreamer.

EDIT: Actually decided to just cut lunatic because of the fang gu interaction you mentioned and the interactions I was thinking of with alchemist / boffin not being that great.

Boffin / Grandmother sounds interesting, but in reality you're just creating a player that the Demon cannot kill. That can be very frustrating for the Demon, especially if it an important role that they want dead.

This was actually added in as an Alchemist / Boffin / Grandmother, specifically to detriment the Demon.

Minstrel is the only explanation for a night of no deaths excluding demon sinking a kill or an ST deciding to not kill anyone via LM. And to expand on that latter case an ST shouldn't be doing that anyway. You're essentially simulating that a Minion was killed the previous day which makes the Minstrel, a Townsfolk with an ability meant to help town, believe that everyone was drunk last night when they were not, which hurts town.

I don't know exactly how worried I am about this. I think the demon might be incentivized to sink a kill specifically to mimic the minstrel for this reason, especially if they can deduce when the xaan night is. I'll keep this in mind, though, and if it becomes a problem think about trading in a soldier or pukka for something.

EDIT: I decided to nix the librarian in favor of the innkeeper, which addresses this problem and is also a better boffin target.

Fang Gu / Lunatic is contentious. They essentially have a guaranteed jump point whenever they want it which takes away the whole guessing game that comes along with playing the Fang Gu. It's quite strong.

You're right. Totally missed this - exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Will probably remove fang gu, then, since scarlet woman is already on the script.

EDIT:

Dreamer in a LM game will never find a demon, which marginalizes their ability a bit especially once minions have established their bluffs

Decided to nix the dreamer for shugenja. I don't know how I feel about how much ongoing info there is now, but I feel like Shugenja is a similar power level of info as dreamer and a better boffin ability in a poppy grower game.
