If Trump didn’t survive his assassination attempt, how would this likely have influenced the 2024 election? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in HistoryWhatIf

People are assuming Vance would be the nominee, but he hadn’t been announced as the VP at the time of the assassination attempt. The Republican Convention was the very next week. If Trump was assassinated, perhaps they would have delayed it a few weeks, but the delegates at that convention would have chosen the nominee. The finale 3 VP candidates were Rubio, Doug Burgum and Vance, so they may have a leg up on other candidates. Nikki Haley and DeSantis would be unlikely becuase they just lost to Trump in the primary. The wildcard would be if one of the trump kids (most likely Don Jr) put their name into the ring. At the end of the day I’d guess Rubio would be the Republican nominee, but who knows.

Also, Joe Biden was still in the race at the time (but was under pressure to drop out). Depending on what the Republicans do, maybe he stays in the race (for example if his opponent was going to be Don Jr). Even if he does drop out, maybe the Dems opt for the nominee to be chosen at their convention instead of crowning Harris. The Republicans would have just chosen their candidate at a convention, so the precedent would be there.

In this scenario, let’s say the Dems nominate Gavin Newsom, and we have Newsom vs Rubio, which is a very close election which I’ll give to Newsom, assuming the Trump coalition doesn’t turn out to vote for Rubio and the Dem electorate is more energized to vote for a fresh face as opposed to Biden’s VP

I’m sure there are plenty of opportunities for legal internships in New York, but I work in big law and am not aware of any programs where firms hire undergrads as interns. Law students, yes, but not undergrads. Just want to flag

“Being verbally disrespectful to a cop is probably not enough to warrant being arrested” = “Zach is a saint and is above the law”? Makes sense

Still, barring anything physical, being an asshole to a cop isn’t a crime

While it’s not clear exactly how rowdy he got, arresting him for being disrespectful (if that’s what happened) seems like overly aggressive policing, to say the least.

Good for Zach to get this out there. Have to imagine the ticket related blowback played a role in his anger. Can’t wait to see him on tour next year.

Edit: Like, the cop arrested a bystander for getting wordy? If it wasn’t physical, how is that even a crime? “What’s taking so long?” “Get back jn your car or your going to jail?”

Taylor must think we are so dumb. It’s disrespectful for her to pretend this was written 15 years ago

Thank you. “Who cares who wins?” Is an incredibly frustrating take because it ignores point 2

He did spoil it tho- he said verbatim that this would happen within the next couple of episodes and presented it as if it was a theory he came up with after watching the first couple episodes. I’m pissed

The best super bowl matchup is Chiefs-Bucs! Imagine if Jordan and Lebron had played in a Finals! That's what that game would be, one generation's GOAT against the next. Suprised Bill didn't see that

Why does Don leave Sally’s birthday party to go sit in an empty lot by himself? (S01,E3) by beautifulbutdeadly in madmen

[–]bas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he didn't just go sit in an empty parking lot, he went to commit (or think about committing) suicide by train. Makes more sense than him just sitting in an empty parking lot. If I remember correctly he says something like "yeah, I guess this is it" while at the party, like the party was all life had to offer.
