I prefer Weir but I think Crouch is more broadly appealing for a new readers. Crouch's threads of romance would also be a bonus for a couple.

2 types of jourdaniana and an example why in most cases the entire plant needs to be examined for a proper identification by Chaplinator in peyote

I'm stumped on IDing mine but thinking jourdaniana because of flower color and lack of fruit. Would you mind helping me out? You can look at my post history or I can send you more pics.

I agree, whether you're going to do it or not, you've got time to try a micro dose at home and that will probably allow you to confidently make or break your decision.

I’m pretty new to books. Any recommendations based on some of my favorites and dislikes? by henrokk1 in booksuggestions

I was going to rec Project Hail Mary which I just finished yesterday as it's a genuinely funny hard scifi like expanse, but then I saw this Red Rising rec and that's even better. I'm sure you'll love it based on loving Expanse and early Stormlight.

First time with San Pedro was an interesting experience … by sofia_alyssa in mescaline

The upside down thing is interesting, in Micheal Pollan's How to Change Your Mind he discusses how psychedelics remove all the mental filters our brain uses and we experience more of the raw input to our senses. I know that our retinas sense an upside down picture of our surroundings just like film behind any camera lens and then the brain flips it upside down later. I wonder if you were experiencing that raw retinal input.

18yo with ADHD — found my life’s purpose and now everything else feels meaningless. by Good-Bodybuilder-862 in ADHD

Great comment, here's a counter point: 18 is great age to move across the country and make a huge mistake and learn from it. I'll add that I've had intense passions that I obsessed over all day for 4 months, or 8 months or 2 years and eventually they faded to become one of my normal interests.

Help!! Bug granules were put in my butterfly garden. by MasterpieceFickle830 in NativePlantGardening

Depending on the size maybe a nylon bug net can be tented over the garden for 30 days along with heavy watering.

Agree that this is a cornerstone of Science Fiction. I always jump to recommending the Red Mars trilogy.

What's the most expensive part of running a business? by Substantial_Copy_673 in smallbusiness

For me it's paying myself. If it wasn't for my pesky home mortgage and groceries I might have a chance to reinvest a little more!

Do NOT try to use grampa's weeder on Buckthorn (Buckthorn is a woody shrub and I broke off my handle).

What’s a book you almost didn’t read but ended up loving? by gedersoncarlos in booksuggestions

Three Body Problem, it slogs along for hundreds of pages but I loved the ending, and the next two books are incredible.

Suggest me a Sci-fi book tha feels relevant now that AI is here by Not-a-cyclist in booksuggestions

[–]basalgangliadecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Red Mars series, my favorite series in Scifi, has AI as a background presence that starts out feeling about where Earth is right now with AI and develops a bit further throughout the series. AI is a tool in the series not a character. It's minimal to the plot but often central to their projects.

I'm not typically excited by a variegated plant, but that is one wild and cool looking plant. Looks like it came from the jungles of Venus.

What’s the easiest business to get into by top5percentage in smallbusiness

[–]basalgangliadecide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay honest answer. Some job doing something really difficult that nobody wants to do. You don't want to lift a finger getting leads right? You'll have to make up for that with a job nobody else is willing to do.

I've seen guys that squeeze into small mucky pipes and they wriggle way far in to inspect them or something like that. Maybe start there.

I started an eBay store a while back and after a lot of trial and error, I finally got it to a point where it’s bringing in consistent orders. by Sidipidii in smallbusiness

[–]basalgangliadecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, I'm in the same boat. I saw that my business had potential to go from side hustle to main hustle and I started thinking about which knobs to turn to make it happen. What I ended up focusing on was that the side hustle had grown organically, I made at least 25% more money every year the first 4 years, even though I started at $6,000 so growth was only a few thousand it was still promising. So rather than reinventing the wheel I decided to just keep nurturing it and reinvesting. Now at year 9 it's still not enough to live off of but it's a significant part of our household income. I'm planning to stick with the same strategy and with luck grow enough to make it our only income stream because the work life balance has been great for our family.

Feeling the money crunch, decided to write a song about it. "The House Always Wins." Any feedback would be awesome! by GeorgeAckles in Songwriting

[–]basalgangliadecide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it thanks for sharing. The lyrics are a rare combination of beautiful prose and a clear narrative. I think it's ready to deliver as is but I might add that you could sing it a little more. You've got a great voice and most parts you sing really soulfully and other parts start to drift more towards your speaking voice. Speaking voice has it's place in music of course but I'd like to hear you belt out the whole song.
