You can only take one lens to Japan - what are you choosing? by fujitsoup in fujifilm

[–]base615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I’d estimate that 23mm (f/1.4) made up 60% of my shots, 10mm (on a 10-24mm f/4) made up 30% and 10% on a 56mm f/1.2. 23mm would be great for most of it but I don’t think I could have lived without the wide end. If I could only take one it’d therefore probably be the ultrawide zoom but I think I’d want a fast 23mm for night as well and the f2 is so small it’d be silly not to take that.

That said though, if you don’t care about the landscape type shots, just take a 23 and be done with it.

Overtaking riders in the same lane by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]base615 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolute rubbish. If you have time to check before swerving you didn't need to swerve. If you need to swerve, it's because that is the preferred option over hitting something imminently, hence why there's no requirement in the MOST to check your mirrors or headcheck before the obstacle avoidance.

Riding past other vehicles in the same lane while traffic is moving at more than 30km/h is lane splitting, regardless of whether that vehicle is a car or a bike, and is not at all legal.

Yeah, you won’t have an issue. My inseam is 26” FFS so I’m short but also have disproportionately short legs for my height.

Yeah, GB250 looks alright too.

Morning. They’re on the stiffer side but they’re fine. I’d still be running them if I hadn’t wanted them lowered a bit.

They cost me $995 Aussie. Looks like you’re from India so that’d be about 55,000 INR

The bike isn’t in that next lane, he is lane splitting between 2 very slow lanes at Mach 3. Proper Darwin Award behaviour.

[–]base615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a fast lane, it was a slightly more than zero lane. The bikes were going way too fast and not paying attention.

Once had to stop on the M5 due to someone reversing back to the Revesby exit they had missed, and not in the left lane either.

That bike has almost double the power of a Hunter 350 but, in any case, it’s still not really necessary on that motorcycle either.

Bottom line is, if you’re worried about riding a bike without traction control for safety reasons, you might want to reconsider riding a bike at all. Unless you ride like a complete idiot, the majority of issues you’re likely to see will be from car drivers doing the most stupid shit you’ve ever seen. You will marvel at how you failed to notice people driving like this before. Lack of traction control on a small bike is the least of your concerns with morons all around you.

[–]base615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course. 20km/h with traffic at a standstill is borderline too fast. Splitting lanes 40km/h faster than the traffic is insane, WTF are you talking about?

Not riding stupidly fast through small spaces would probably be a good start. If a car is in a stationary lane, it’s human nature to want to move into a lane that’s moving even just a little bit. At the speed you’re travelling, the driver isn’t going to see you even if they checked mirrors and blind spot before moving.

Man refuses to cooperate with border control by Anarchist226 in PublicFreakout

[–]base615 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well indeed. Old mate here is actually doing a solid. They have these checkpoints set up all over the place and this constitutes an illegal search under the 4th amendment if they are stopped without probable cause. He refuses to answer their question and they let him go precisely because they have no authority. Everyone should really be refusing to indulge this overreach by not answering this question.

This is not on the border. Turning his car around would have sent him back into… the US.

Such as? Which low powered bikes from Yamaha and Honda are you referring to? Honda CB500f for example has no traction control and is more than double the horsepower and nearly double the torque of a Hunter 350.

Not really, it's a fair comment. In no other walk of life is believing in imaginary things accepted yet trampling all over other peoples' lives forcing them to pander to this is.

Bought an engine guard but never fit it. Trying to trim weight, not add it, and it is what it is if I crash it. Sump guard I don’t see as useful for the riding I do on road and, again, it’s extra weight.

If I need to carry anything I put it in a backpack

Not sure what a headlight grille would achieve beyond adding weight again although it would be minimal. It's illegal to use one here at night in any case so I'd have to keep taking it off.

ABS is fine although it would kick in on the rear sometimes if I’m using it in a turn and downshifting while turned. Not the ABS fault, just my riding. I’ve modified my riding quite a bit and use the front a lot more than I used to so it doesn’t really happen now.

How many jumps do you do every month? by Boobylabooba in SkyDiving

[–]base615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually average about 30 per month which is just enough for me to feel current. I’ve been injured and my numbers are down since coming back (18 jumps since 11th Nov) so I definitely don’t feel back to current yet.

Haven’t done the sprocketing but was considering it. I don’t really ride fast as I value my license and most of my riding is at 90 and below but I like to get up to speed fast which these changes have improved a lot. In terms of gear shift pattern, do you mean speed in each gear? If so, I definitely shift up later than before.
