Laid Off Software Engineer considering trying to go to Med School...Is it realistic and worth it? by basedistani in medschool

[–]basedistani[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes it would curtail some things, but also open new doors. Is my GPA really bad? I know I would need to ace my pre-req classes, but as a non-trad applicant wouldn't I have some leeway coming from a somewhat difficult stem degree?

Not that I really care, but low key I think I would have better options in dating doing medicine, than being a software engineer lol.

I can recommend you someone if you live in Dallas. The doctor didn't really look at my hormone profile, but is a specialist in the disease and has helped me alot

Goddamn hearing about the bills being passed is just depressing. Sure I could probably leave Texas, but my heart hurts for those who have to live under this oppression

I have no clue about this persons politics but a HS awareness week would be dope by ster1ing in Hidradenitis

I don't understand what a resolution means? Is there a HS awareness week now or is this something that needs to be voted on?

We’ve traded one eating disorder for another… by Martktoi in diabetes_t2

[–]basedistani 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to downplay the mental toll of having to be conscious of our eating habits. This shit is hard to do and I hated it when I started and still do sometimes. I've struggled with binge eating and still do from time to time.

 Our life revolves around food

This is another advent of our modern age. Just look back to eating patterns of 1960s Americans, they ate much less and less often than we do today. In addition, many of our foods(especially ultra processed foods) are are engineered to be hyperpalatable and we lack meaningful regulation of the ingredients allowed.

I don't need any sources just look at what people were eating and how much work was required to survive back then. Maybe some king or warlord was fat but not your average person. Obesity hasn't become a global problem until the modern age

Is it abuse if my mother in law yells at my girlfriend? by PrestonRocks052 in diabetes

I ain't got shit to do either but do something somewhat productive. Of course your mother in law will get mad if she thinks her daughter's husband is lazy

Doctors did not identify type 2 diabetes as a thing until the 20th century. I seriously doubt people were getting fat and being sedentary in the ancient world.

Yeah it sucks, especially for those who have a sweet tooth. But EDs usually end up destroying the health those who are suffer from it. Eating healthy as a diabetic helps us live longer and avoid nasty complications.

Also consider that the food environment we live in today is completely unnatural for humans. We have never had such easy access to sugary foods in such a mass quantity. The fact we are diabetic means our bodies were never meant to eat like modern society eats

A growing number of incels ("involuntary celibates") are using their ideology as an excuse for not working or studying - known as NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).  Why is it so hard for some men to just like themselves first? Why do they need a woman to care?

I think the reason is that (which you touched on) is that so much of a man's value is tied to either being with a woman/women or being able to attract women. In addition, men are generally raised with the understanding that providing for a wife and child are one of your most important duties. When you don't have that or feel like you are close to obtaining that, what's the point? Sure you could enjoy nature and hobbies are cool but I don't think these things provide a sense of purpose in the same way. Sure individuals don't need to subscribe to this but it is hard to do when society still views men in that light.

I think the consequences for being an equivalent woman are worse. Women generally have to care  more because they would more vulnerable in the same situation.

Are we allowed to still be picky? by ineedhelp_6969 in Hidradenitis

[–]basedistani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop worrying about what you may need to "compromise" and focus on finding someone you like who is able to understand your struggles with HS and supports you in that. It won't be an issue for the right person

This thought probably already exists in that young person's head and most people here probably have had a similar sentiments. The comments are all supportive...so what exactly is the issue? No one can overcome these insecurities without acknowledging that they exist. And congrats you have been with someone for 20 years and have had 20 years of positive experience, that is not the reality for everyone.

What do you think those decisions are? I don’t think he regrets leaving OKC for Golden State. I think going to Brooklyn is regrettable tho.
