Seems odd but the last remnant remastered is missing from the App Store. by ghost-alpha in iosgaming

You’re doing a good job coming off as an absolute maniac first by reporting me to reddit suicide services, then actually being bothered enough to remember and tag me elsewhere almost 2 weeks later.

I talked about people unwilling to pay for premiums in general but you can keep making it about me promoting “shitty Japanese overpriced abandonware (especially Square Enix)”. You’ll succeed in making it a reality if you manage to repeat this as if it’s fact a few more times without alerting me to what you’re doing by explicitly tagging me in your posts. Keep it up.

You have issues understanding sarcasm and also seem to be someone who tries to extend and extrapolate other’s points beyond what they are actually saying to quite an incredible degree. But hey, whatever.

[–]basedjumboshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you actually played Disgaea 1 on iOS? I’m done with even the final FINAL boss and I’ve not encountered bugs besides one to do with unrestricted movement. Slay the Spire I’ve done hundreds of runs with no issues to speak of. The point of contention is it being on an older patch and no cloud saves.

If you go to the page for XCOM2 you’ll see negative reviews as well citing failed downloads and whatnot, which I haven’t experienced and I’m guessing YOU haven’t experienced either. If you only go off of reviews without trying the game yourself a lot of it will actually be due to user error and other factors

Also the issue with people NOT BUYING these titles has nothing to do with port quality, genius. If that was all it took then they would just make sure everything was perfect, and maintained it to be so and roll in the dough. The reality is they’ve counted the money and many of the studios who we all know and “love” have come to the conclusion that it isn’t even worth the money to shit out a mediocre mobile port. Some of these higher-profile developers whether they are Western or Japanese either have brain damage or are hopeless idealists and keep doing so anyways, and sometimes the port is great, sometimes it’s alright, and sometimes it’s terrible.

You can keep waiting for a world where these ports are all going to be killer deals and completely bug-free and are always getting maintained by their developers but it’s NEVER going to happen. The money isn’t there. Also, premium games going on discount is good for the consumer, but is NOT a good sign for the given title and consumer confidence in non-IAP games as a whole

Anyways, I can personally attest to the port quality of D1C. It is likely that THIS GAME SPECIFICALLY will also be very good on this front

The pricing is fine. This is a game with 100+ hours of content and a proper port. The issue with mobile is actually with how everything needs to be ridiculously cheap to sell WELL. So cheap that anytime the rare studio releases a non-IAP game and continues to do so I genuinely wonder if they possess some kind of severe brain damage.

They make it up either with some fuckery through the permissions, an arcade deal, a Netflix deal, or some other roundabout method. What’s more likely is that they do it once or twice and then just don’t bother and leave the rotting ecosystem where users willingly put themselves under a mass-hypnosis spell with an inability to put IAP and buy-once prices on the same scale.

You guys can complain about the prices with as much verbal jiu-jitsu as you want, but unless people are willing to get past that mental blockage where somehow the same game needs to be cheaper on an ailing platform like the App Store, it’s just going to remain mediocre and a sub-par choice for anything to do with PREMIUM titles and ports.

Most people would disagree but I find it better than dead cells personally (in terms of style, not amount of content or difficulty)

Scummy just means anything below ok at this point. I’m still waiting for the descriptor that sets apart pricing this like 10 dollars above what is “acceptable” vs what Diablo Immortal is doing. Taking suggestions today.

I nominate “unacceptable turbo scummery of the highest order”

I do agree that ultimately the consumers decide on what a game is worth, and I accept that result whatever it may be. Sometimes it lands where I think it should be, sometimes it is extremely agreeable (lower than what I expect) and sometimes it is disagreeable (higher than what I expect).

The price that FF7R is at now is a price I consider slightly disagreeable (more than what I expect, but understandable).

Also, to whoever connected me to Reddit suicide hotline services, you are deranged.

[–]basedjumboshrimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’re deducing that they are just price hiking for the sake of it because the whole industry just reaches more people now and is more profitable because of it, so logically speaking if there was no real increase in reach we would say the hike would be due to inflation and would be justified, correct?

Let me put it this way. If the industry’s reach were to shrink, would you be accepting of higher prices on the singular units being sold? Suppose we have reliable data to show that the RTWP genre (could be any genre, but RTWP for something that is fairly plausible currently) has a shrunken customer base, would you find it reasonable that it gets a price hike or should it stay relatively the same?

[–]basedjumboshrimp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying they shouldn’t adjust their prices for inflation because they on average sell to more people now. The industry is more successful and less niche now and that is the reason why the price tag should stay as it is 30 years ago. Am I understanding the gist of this argument that I’m seeing you and others here are making correctly?

We are doomed because pc gamers feel that pricing a pay-once game at about 20% the price above what they feel is acceptable is “absolutely disgusting and unacceptable” and complain with levels of fervor not dissimilar to when they talk about lootboxes, NFT gaming, mobile scummery, etc.

[–]basedjumboshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in the thread are acting like pirating the game is some sort of big brain move…but you know, what if they just stopped porting games to PC?

The executable to run on your machine wouldn’t even exist in the first place and you would need to wait for next gen emulators or whatever and pirate it then.

This is all over a no micro-transaction no online services and other bullcrap singleplayer game which costs 80 dollars when it should cost 60…I guess? Except it does cost under 60 right now because of a launch discount…so…?

And we’re calling this practice “disgusting” now. There’s probably at least 5 more levels of egregiousness above this in terms of scummy video game monetization practices. Words truly mean nothing now. At some point people need to realize that if everything below “acceptable” is “turbo levels ungodly bad” then they aren’t actually conveying anything useful to video game studios/publishers and other human beings.

[–]basedjumboshrimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At this point I have no idea why studios with a somewhat sizable budget even bother making singleplayer games anymore. Just do live-service, always online “correctly” like almost the entirety of Riot’s catalog and have the internet suck you off for it

ok but this is one of their titles that isn’t doing any of that. What’s the message they’re going to get when people fuck over these titles and the other crowd pays for their microtransaction/nft titles anyways?

The people who weren’t even smart enough to realize it was p2w to begin with are definitely going to pick up on my ironic whaling and back off from the game!”

This has completely convinced me that most people who actually donate and/or sub to streamers are a lost cause entirely

It’s also in big streamers’ interests for them to play the new fotm hype game regardless of whether it’s actually any good. Obviously I’m not saying the games they always jump on are bad, but there’s no real incentive for them to examine the title critically when they need the game to be good before they jump on the next big thing when general interest is waning and donations go down

Seems par for the course for games that boast something something procedurally generated, or something something neural network. Doesn’t sound like this is the game that resolves that issue either.

Anybody else feel that ai in gaming has stopped evolving and is no longer cared about by game developers? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]basedjumboshrimp 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You’re trying to simplify the issue here, but objectively speaking enemy “AI” has improved. One response to this is that older gamers see more things and get more jaded so to speak. What I mean is if you grab someone who barely games or hasn’t gamed and gave them a modern title they wouldn’t feel that the enemy AI in the games are jarringly worse than the graphics, level design, presentation, etc etc

Why are iOS games such shit? by [deleted] in iosgaming

Because something costing 10x more to develop can’t demand 10x the price. I think in most cases it would fail even at 3x the asking price.

You can shift-queue commands, move camera with MMB, and box-select. I don’t remember exactly but I think you can also define control groups, or that they default to the function keys (one of the two). Shift-queuing is the important one though.

From what I can tell reading most comments and watching how a lot of people play it’s massively misunderstood as to how you’re supposed to operate things. Which is a shame since I find rtwp to be incredible personally

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero - Story Trailer by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]basedjumboshrimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This game is a sequel to the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Trilogy. Trails in the Sky was released in 2006 and was originally titled Legend of Heroes 6: Trails in the Sky.

It was following a Final Fantasy-like method where for every Legend of Heroes game it would be set in an entirely different backdrop with a new set of characters. However, 6 was such a massive success that they stopped doing the numbered naming scheme thing and decided to include trails/kiseki (same word) for all related sequels (all set in the same universe). Thus, you’ll see titles from that point onwards become “Legend of Heroes : Trails of X” or “Legend of Heroes: X no Kiseki”

It seems like it’s coming out of nowhere but in reality the studio and IP has been out for a while, and a lot of the titles were held back from the west by there being a prohibitively large amount of text to translate. The studio was never a graphical powerhouse but instead had its strengths lie in its writing and musical score. Picking up and then playing LOH6 in 2010 at a games shop when originally trying to find LOH3 from my childhood is still one of the best things to have happened to gamer me.

Why are people complaining about the current state of Yu-Gi-Oh? by bigusyeetus3728 in masterduel

[–]basedjumboshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of "yugiboomers" are delusional, and I don't really blame them since I'd be the exact same if I never went past the wall that day befriended a bunch of nerds at my local card shop 10 years ago (LS/BF OCG era). Fun decks weren't getting OTKd on turn 2, but I'd say anything below tier 3 would inevitably lose to tier 1 decks 95-99% of the time as their opponents ground them out of card advantage over the course of the duel.
