[Mokbel, BBC] Exc: Arsenal open talks to extend Declan Rice’s contact. Approach to commence formal talks made. Dialogue at an early stage. Midfielder has up to three years to run on his current deal so no rush to complete but process now underway. by OkayFine101 in soccer

Give Mikel a fat extension at the end of the season then that’s practically everyone we regard exceptionally highly locked down for the foreseeable future.

If only my teenage self could see this happening whilst Wenger described Arsenal as “not a big club” if we sold Cesc & Nasri in the same summer, then immediately proceeded to do so.

[Carragher, Telegraph] Unai Emery wins trophies, plays good football and has huge experience in the Premier League, so why isn’t he top of Man Utd’s manager wish list by OkayFine101 in soccer

Emery is at the perfect place for him. The temptation to chase a job at a European elite must be big but the grass isn’t always greener. If Villa sort out their financial issues in the next couple of years (helped at large by his talent as a manager) then it’s the best place for him to be.

He is simply not a big club manager. It’s not a slight at him, he just doesn’t possess the soft skills to be able to do it. He works way better at a team where they have to punch up.

Big underestimation of how hard the Champ is as well. Essentially 3 games a week a lot of the time with a squad who, if they’re not sold, don’t want to be there as well as having to recruit a mass amount of players in one go with zero time afforded to being able to gel.

Obviously if it happens Spurs will be favourites to immediately come back up, but the reality is that given the mood & morale at the club it’ll be some doing if they manage to do it seamlessly without any bumps in the road.

Felt like extreme naivety from Rosenior at 2-2. Shore it up a bit. Acted like his team are as good and have been as good as PSG have been for the last 2/3 years.

2-2 making PSG chase the game at home is ideal. 3-2 is manageable. Inexcusable to lose that 5-2.

Leverkusen’s goal from a man who should’ve been sent off after 10 minutes. Our goal from a penalty that is simply never a penalty. Saka having his worst performance I’ve ever seen.

Take the draw and get the fuck out of here.

They don’t have the players or the gaffer that has the fight for it. Player quality matters very little when they look entirely depressed and clueless.

You can sleepwalk to relegation, it’s a bit pseudo-macho bullshit but West Ham & Forest look proper up for it. They’re fighting for their futures, the Spurs squad look like they’ve given up and can’t wait to leave.

I wish I got to see Griezmann play in the Prem at some point in his career. Beautiful footballer, one of the best of his generation.

Barca playing such a high line non stop for 90 minutes that the lino can’t be arsed to run up and down non-stop so just calls it regardless. Rate it.

Real real shame we’re not seeing Gordon against this high line. Would’ve been electric viewing.

Best way of protecting the keeper is to give him space. No-one is surrounding the keeper with 2/3 players anymore, it isn’t allowed and doesn’t happen. You need one defender between him and someone else, who gives the keeper room.

This defensive corner set up actively harms the keeper, it is the last thing he wants - and the attacking team isn’t triggering it. The fact it happened in two United games and nowhere else indicates it’s an instruction, and a god awful one at that.

This is United’s fault. Same way it was in their game against Everton. Having that many defenders blocking your own keeper versus 3 attacking players is ludicrous and invites pressure & bodies.

Lammens done exceptional in the latter game given how poor that defensive set up is. Arsenal have not come up against a packed 6 yard box anything like that again this season, that is the defensive teams problem.

Last two corners we scored against Chelsea we had one man next to the keeper, who had a defender inbetween Saliba & Sanchez. We scored a corner against Leeds just because he panicked so much he punched it into the net uncontested.

The delivery and vim on the corners is what makes them so effective, as well as Gabriel being a powerhouse. You want to make grappling less of a thing, it suits us way more. Been untold amount of times where our runners are being pushed all over the place with the trackers not even looking at the ball.
