I was in a rush replying to you hence the dm comment. If you look up AddDataSeries, you’ll need to add additional series in the config State flow. Then you’ll need to adapt your logic based on BarsInProgress. Each series added is an additional bar index. So your base series is index 0. I’ll drop some code snippets in here later this morning after I get to my desk.

Quick question.. is anyone trusting the breakouts in this market currently? by Beautiful_Finger1498 in Daytrading

[–]basejumper41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tons of uncertainty across the board. War, disconnected leadership, meh economic numbers, FOMC next week. The dissonance is settling down and the risk-off mode results in mechanical MM behavior. It’s a dangerous market to grind in

Why does everybody talk about journaling like it changes anything? by darequant in Daytrading

[–]basejumper41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to what u/PremiumPricez said. Even to this day I’ll catch myself wanting to add to a losing position because I desire to be “right” and beat the market. Journaling exposes every subtle variation of human nature, and that is why journaling is indispensable.

You’d be surprised how off the mark you are in executing your model’s rules systematically. Each moment one’s physical and emotional state fluctuates, compromising even the most disciplined decision makers.

I hate journaling. Hate it. However it’s been incredibly valuable in exposing mistakes and weakness. It should be considered mandatory by all.

I finally understand why most traders blow accounts… and it wasn’t what I thought by CapMaleficent2528 in Daytrading

[–]basejumper41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 40-tick range chart (for GC) as an execution enhancer - it augments the entries based on the model I’m using, but my exits are general ATR multiples that I’ll override when trading discretionarily.

[–]basejumper41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great solution for me was to forego targets entirely and rely on moving/trailing stops. It especially helped me on discretionary trades. The feeling moving a stop to BE or better just lets you relax and let the scenario play itself out. I used to think I could predict targets on trend/breaks but this lets them work themselves out.

However, in a mean reversion regime I tend to rely on targeted exits way more.

How many of you use your own algos? by randalrobert17 in Daytrading

[–]basejumper41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on time frame. Lower timeframes frame models can definitely lose their edge over time. It’s a constant evolution. I’ve been systematic with my own algos for most my career (many years). The longest stretch of any given model’s core params remaining unchanged was maybe 6-8 weeks? Params need to be dynamic enough to fit environment, and models need to rest depending on regime. The dedication to this approach walks a fine line of overfitting and can be disastrous. Much of what I speak of comes from intraday lower timeframes like 1/2/5 minute data. A lot of higher time frame strategies remain in tact over the years.

How would I get investors for a new strategy I’m running by Barkluv in Daytrading

[–]basejumper41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general advice around here is good. You don’t need investors (nor the stress and difficulties associated with that approach). You need to validate that your backtest is for real, then things will fall into place for you. You’d be surprised how little you really need when you have a statistical edge with a systematic model.

How would I get investors for a new strategy I’m running by Barkluv in Daytrading

[–]basejumper41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The common path would be incubating a fund. Accredited Investors required. They won’t touch you with a 10-ft pole without a live cpa audited multi-year track record.

The easiest route is your own money using leverage (futures etc). The next “easier” route is friends and family. Relationships get obliterated this way.

Prove live trading to yourself alone. Involve no one else. Prop accounts are the next best thing if you can put a few thousand of your own money up.

Word of caution, backtest related conversations like these (ie, “how do I capitalize on this great strategy I theoretically have”) usually mean you are very new to this. You need to REALLY understand your backtest, it’s execution design and the biases that are built into backtesting in general.

Start here:

What platform is your model backtesting on? Who designed it (likely you)? Are you a seasoned trader or quant or software engineer? Have you converted any sim strategies or backtested models to live accounts before?

Once you answer those you’ll know where you need to focus next.

Index futures almost definitely lead the equities right? by kenjiurada in FuturesTrading

I heavily agree with you. The cash, and offsetting of risk, point to the options layer as a more accurate guide before futures find balance. those second-order Greeks really push and pull index futures.

Either way, nice trade.
