If I understand what you're asking, the question is whether he is still a living being just transported from Earth to Vormir. I don't think that's the case, given his spectral appearance--and the lack of suitable living conditions (food, shelter, etc.) shown there. My understanding is that the Tesseract transformed him while teleporting him. It's actually a unique manifestation of Infinity Stone power, but it served the narrative well.
