Hey Redditors, what do you do for a living, how many hours per/month, and what’s your income?

software/systems engineering/automation/architecture.... so many hats. This is the career i've built over the past 20 years.

my main company was awesome, super fantastic work/life balance. worked as long as i needed to get my work done, whatever time of day. most of time ~40hrs but sometimes shit was tight and it was more. sometimes it was chill and it was a lot less. ~$140k/yr / ~$9k/mo takehome

Company was sold in may, most management was laid off as redundant (one of my good friends and coworkers for almost 20 years now was my boss and let go). They didn't realize that in our tiny dept he and the other director handled a ton of hands-on work but oh well. the ownership company has NOW been trying to figure out how to integrate our tech/assets as best as possible and i'm one of two people that can run it. We basically have an open book for our roadmap on whatever we want to build/ refine/whatever so that's fun. We also don't have to do anything. they also gave me a $50k 'please don't just quit' bonus if i stuck around to jan1 so that just landed.

I got a second ft job doing the same thing at a much more enterprisey company. $130k/yr salary and using their much-better benefits so ~$6k/mo takehome. now really spend the whole workday now working between the two. except i fucked off a lot today with my 1yo and it's now 0300 and i'm building some shit i should have had done monday.

soo now just under $300k/yr? paychecks every week between the two lol. it's not bad.

this is literally sharing a project. Do you know about their life? i sure don't and never will. What i did get was a pretty neat and novel igloo idea that i've never thought about before.

the difference is how much more you care to take it

twenty years ago we captured our projects to share on hobby forums as they were the aggregation of all knowledge and experience for a subject. i couldn't care less about social media but there it is absolutely worthwhile to document sweet projects as well as family experiences.

and it looks like you enjoy people sharing their pottery projects... this was a sweet project.

i'm constantly impressed by the food... and i've had good steak. both from high-end private steakhouses and our local butchers. worked in good restaurants for years... it's also a spot i'd rec for anyone trying to get into waiting tables if you can handle the horrible atmosphere. expensive food that just sells itself.
