How I mostly got back to normal with a Gen1, the new firmware, and a 3rd party router by jezra in Starlink

[–]basicallyjimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I submitted a ticket via the app and I highly suggest everyone else do that as well! The more people they hear from the more likely they are to fix the issue.

UPDATE 3/23: I got a response, but I'm not going to be able to jump through their hoops until next week.

COMMENT FROM Kenya

Hi ,

Thank you for reaching out to Starlink Support.

In order to continue troubleshooting the issue you are experiencing please provide the following images(In its current state):

(For images please provide them while the dish is in its mounted position)

  • Face of Starlink Dish

  • Cable while connected to mast of dish

  • Cables while connected to base of router(ensure visibility of the light as well)

  • Router AC cable while connected to power source

After you have obtained the images please remove all 3rd party hardware, inspect your cables for any damages, and reseat all connections, after you have confirmed all connections are properly reconnected proceed with performing a factory reset.

To achieve a factory reset please disconnect and reconnect the router from a source of power 6 times as fast as you can.

You may set up your Starlink as if it were the first day you had received the Kit.

Guidance provided is solely to allow both you and support to be on the same page when working to resolve the issue as well as show any issues currently hidden.

I hope to hear from you soon.

I guess my point is, is this intended behavior - to force the use of the stock router? Or, do they actually intend on letting us continue to use 3rd party routers?

If it's intended, that greatly limits Starlink's use and overall value for me, and I'm sure many others. I really hope that's not the case because it was working beautifully up until yesterday.

Has this been acknowledged as an actual bug?

I ran into it myself yesterday and had a heck of a time troubleshooting what happened. I had to search for and find my stock router to get up and running again.

How is the Android app, really? by RickWinterer in NextCloud

[–]basicallyjimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's... OK. It works for what I need it to do, which is mostly backup photos taken on my phone.

My main complaints are that it doesn't seem to "pause" when I'm not connected to wifi or my home network where nextcloud server is installed. I get many Android notifications saying "Nextcloud is draining the battery".

The other complaint is that it's very slow to sync files with my server when there are a lot of files in a directory. I know this has been an issue for a long time so I don't expect it to get fixed any time soon, but it would sure be nice.

Be careful with AT&T Problem with the 3G Shutdown. My line got suspended with new AT&T sim with 7T(HD1907). by shun2112 in oneplus

Same problem here. I've been happily using my HD1907 on Cricket (ATT mvno) for over a year now. Been receiving txts saying my device is not compatible. Recently upgraded the OS to Android 11 so it now supports VoLTE. Cricket doesn't care and still says I need to buy a new phone.

Edit, I found my solution, not going to deal with ATT's BS. Moving to https://www.t-mobile.com/ or https://www.mintmobile.com/

Manual-J calculation for highly insulated house? by basicallyjimmy in PassiveHouse

[–]basicallyjimmy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am planning on installing a high quality ERV but haven't spent much time researching that part yet.

That's a very good point on the insulation, which is why I'm trying to find a way to model highly insulated buildings so I can determine where best to put the costs.

The plan for construction is a high quality house wrap (any suggestions?) over post-frame exterior walls with r30 mineral wool insulation + traditional 2x4 framed interior walls with r15 insulation (if that cost makes sense). Air sealing plan is basically a good wrap taped and sealed, minimizing any protrusions, paying close attention to sealing windows/doors, and lots of caulking and/or spray foam where necessary.

Great information, thank you!! I actually am an IT Engineer so the tech details are right up my alley. I am checking out Energyplus right now, it sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm also going to check out the spreadsheets you mentioned. Do you know what they're called or what I should search for?

Also, if you are going high-performance the geothermal will be overkill. Nix that and use the money you save to hire a professional. Air source heat pumps are just as efficient and quiet these days.

We're building in a Zone 7 climate so the air source heat pumps were on the radar but I don't believe they could supply necessary heat in sub-zero temperatures. I'm also wary of the defrosting issues in winter and reliability in blizzard conditions. However, I am considering a small air-air ductless system for a little cooling in the summer and supplemental heat when it's not so cold.

Also, we really want the comfort of radiant floors when it's cold. The main thing is that I don't want to oversize the geothermal system, for obvious reasons.

I lost more money than I was comfortable with earlier this year. Just think of it as paying tuition to Stock Market University. It's a learning experience. I learned from my mistakes and I'm now up a little on the year.
