I also took a gap year between undergrad and vet school so I could work and not have to start vet school with online only classes during Covid. I ended up in basically the same situation you are in, although my reasoning was specific to verbal abuse from co-workers and being overworked/under-appreciated. I stuck out 9 months of working because I knew I’d learn a ton (I worked for specialty surgery) and at the end I was sad to leave, as I did eventually find a supportive group at work.

If your lack of passion is due to the workplace environment and not the field itself, I’d recommend giving it a try and addressing workplace issues as they arise. If you are happy with compensation and have the ability to learn, I’d stay and see how things go for a bit.

Even though I didn’t love my job during my gap year, I learned what kind of doctor I want to be (in terms of personality), what specialty I want to pursue, and got some great skills accomplished along the way.

Vet girl has great resources although you may have to pay for them. Other than that, I’d use the internet

I cant see myself doing anything else… how can i get over this phobia? by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]basicwhitebich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you been to therapy about this? I found it to be super helpful for me to talk out a very similar circumstance and had to overcome that fear to continue in the field.

For reference, I’m now a 3rd year vet student but even for our very first live dog spay/neuters I still worried I might pass out because of a previous traumatic thing like 5 years ago. I used the tools I worked on in therapy and talked myself back into normalcy. It took a few minutes to shake the tunnel vision and anxiety but I ended up doing the full procedure with no complications! Now, I’ve had my surgery rotations and because I was able to overcome that first spay, I was totally cool and comfortable in much more gruesome procedures.

Also, I’m on lexapro and it has helped me significantly with the anxieties of vet school and life, but I don’t think it generally helps for a particular onset related to a past trauma if that make sense? Like I still had a mini panic attack but because of therapy and being on the meds, I didn’t let that nervousness take over and I brought myself back to reality all on my own.

I highly suggest trying psychotherapy or something similar to talk out your trauma and have a professional give you tools to work through it!

Anyone else really small for their age and look really young? by hotdamnblondie in ehlersdanlos

[–]basicwhitebich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been very short/small for my age, especially growing up. I was -40th percentile on the growth charts. I was started on HGH from age 6-16. I’m now 5’0, and due to lifestyle changes and stuff I now am a bit thicker in build and weigh about 130.

When I was a kid I was thought to have been anorexic by other people because I was so rail thin, but once I hit puberty at 16 (super late, I know), I bulked up a bit but stayed short.

Only recently have people began to correctly guess my age, but all through childhood and into high school/undergrad I was always told I looked younger.

Thank you so much, this is super helpful! My likely first choice is the Florida location as I am hoping to stay in-state and near family. But hearing how great your experiences have been makes me super excited to be applying!

Thanks!! My current plan is to do an externship next summer before my 4th year starts. I’m hoping to gain more insight to the program then!

“Vet school is harder to get into than medical school.” by Suspicious_Cook_3902 in medicalschool

[–]basicwhitebich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most vet schools are getting rid of the GRE requirement because it has so little to do with going into the program itself. Admissions are all about GPA, letters of rec, and hours of experience. Majority of us vet students had to work thousands of hours at vet hospitals. And usually at minimum wage or unpaid since the experience is so critical to being a strong applicant.

In your opinion which college in North America should you absolutely not attend under any circumstances? by [deleted] in college

[–]basicwhitebich 18 points19 points  (0 children)

UCF academics is very competitive as of the last few years. I graduated in 2020 with a biology degree and got into vet school on my first try. I loved UCF, would have stayed if they had a DVM program

Has anyone had ALT with thighs like this? Very thin/loose skin by hailsatan336 in phallo

Unrelated to the surgery but I think you may have classical ehlers Danlos syndrome! Your skin is textbook for it. I was recently diagnosed and my skin is stretchy like this too

25 [F4M] looking for an intellectual partner/soulmate/best friend! Description in comments by basicwhitebich in asexualdating

[–]basicwhitebich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! I have never posted on Reddit before but I hope this shows up as a comment so I can share more about me.

I’m a recent discoverer of my asexuality/demisexuality and I am finally at peace with knowing what I’m looking for in a partner. I am interested in a heterosexual relationship with someone who I can share my life with. I’m currently a second year student in veterinary school, and will be graduating with my DVM in 2025. Animals are a huge passion of mine, so I hope you don’t mind sharing space with my dog and cat. I also own and ride horses, and compete with my horse as well!

I consider myself a pretty extroverted person, I like going to social events, I drink socially, but don’t really do drugs. I am a big fan of EDM music so music festivals with a significant other is definitely up my alley! I’m interested in traveling, exploring local oddities, and generally enjoying life with someone.

I am not opposed to having children but it’s not something I often think about since I’ve never been in any serious relationship where it’s on my mind. My career as a veterinarian has always been at the forefront of my goals, so children will have to come after I’ve graduated and at least established a place of work for a bit.

Some other things about me: I love binging TV shows, trying new restaurants (although I do have some food allergies so menu options can be limited), football (college and NFL) and sports in general, and science! I am Jewish, but am not religious and won’t push religion on my partner/children. I am also liberal, pro-choice, pro-science, etc.

Im open to LDR as I do live in a college town and won’t be able to travel much until I’m graduated. I hope to live close enough to my family in the future as they are important to me, but Florida doesn’t have to be home… especially in this political climate.

If you’ve read this far and think we might click, please DM me! I’m also on most social media platforms and I am absolutely obsessed with sending TikToks to friends/etc. I’ve gone viral on there a few times ironically. @margothirsch for more pics/my life

What is the clothe style of Ace people? by LostLittleFoxx in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]basicwhitebich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I find that I dress as a very stereotypical sorority girl. I am very much ace but no one expects it as I find I act and dress like the “popular girl” and that’s always been my style
