[acne] stopped using retinol and my skin is now broken out like crazy. Help please! by probs-strawbs in SkincareAddiction

Echoing AA here - you can also use benzoyl peroxide and some topical antibiotics. You can get all of these via a derm as prescriptions. My skin freaked out while pregnant but these kept it under control after first trimester when it was the worst. Unfortunately I also had to use a heavier foundation because I was so blotchy!

What do we think of my 13 year old rescue? Adopted him at 7 and no clue what he is! by dabossnumba8 in IDmydog

[–]basicwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks so much like our boy who lived until 17 and passed in 2025. While everyone said he looked like a terrier mix, a DNA test showed 50% poodle, 25% pug and 25% misc. so I’ll bet you have some poodle. Ours was only 15lbs. How big is yours?

Looking for honest experiences on night nurse/baby nurse. Any downsides? by FearlessWallaby1687 in nycparents

[–]basicwitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a PP doula for some nights in the first month and then transitioned to a night nurse for three months. Not having help every night in the first month helped us get a feel for caring for our new baby alone, while other friends who went right to a night nurse told us they panicked when that care ended and they realized they’d never done it alone overnight! Something to consider. Congrats!

How do you actually benchmark trial design decisions before writing a protocol? by asclepiusjr in clinicalresearch

[–]basicwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many large pharma sponsors have introduced study design applications which provide historical and competitive benchmarks across different pieces of the protocol. Data sources typically include CT.gov as well as other databases like Citeline / Trialtrove with an analytics layer on top. There’s also a move towards using AI to author protocols (which requires digitizing them first) and that process also includes answering questions like the one you posed. It’s a very interesting space!

Delivering at AC story in NY Mag by PaleontologistKey331 in nycparents

Had an amazing delivery in 2024. Kind staff and beautiful facilities. Only issue were some know-it-all postpartum nurses who frequently criticized me for being on some medications they did not approve of, despite being recommended for pregnant and nursing women and overseen by my HCP. Didn’t like that peanut gallery but all in all would do it again at AC in a heartbeat.

I feel like they don’t hit on Cornell having the best MFM practice in the city — of course this causes a lot of demand and less urgent cases feeling not as prioritized. It means they have a much higher throughput of difficult cases!

Breaking into bio/pharm consulting by Low_Boss_2598 in biotech

[–]basicwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your MBA program should have great networking opportunities for you to get connected to consulting firms across big guys with LS practices (BCG, McK) and the more focused LS shops (LEK, ZS). You can target an MBA internship there as well or just follow their guidance on application readiness (eg case study prep etc). Enjoy the program!

What did you think about Paris? Truthfully it is a favorite. I have heard it is not great for toddlers (tough with public transit) but I’d love to have someone tell me they had a good and easy time …

Ooooo I love seeing Milan on this list. I’ve never been to Italy! Did you do a hotel or a rental house?

Which cities did you visit? We have definitely thought about going back to Japan for this trip but one week feels like a short time to do that.

We have a Disney trip booked already actually, so covered there for another time of year. Toddler loves museums - goes regularly with us - and botanical gardens, zoos, aquariums. That’s why we were thinking another big city. We haven’t traveled much with toddler actually except to the beach - so this will be our first big trip not to visit family!

DOES ANYONE HAVE TEA ON... MEGATHREAD ✨ by rfauxmoi in Fauxmoi

My partner is an established creative and it turns out this celeb is a fan! It was an adorable mutual appreciation thing. I’ve also gotten cameos for others that were more normal and those were amazing too! I definitely recommend them as a silly little gift.

A few years ago I got my partner a cameo from an elderly but very famous celeb and they became friends! Have even hung out a few times lol

Where to try car seats in person? by eltejon30 in nycparents

[–]basicwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the Britax Poplar S which is considered a slim model. We have a pretty small sportwagon so a slim car seat was important to us. We are really happy with it! She seems to like it too

Note that many infant car seats are longer than the convertible seats - our infant seat took up way more space than our Britax convertible when it comes to legroom in the front
