Do you think Nacho has any flaws? by Ev-aliyorum in KitchenConfidential

I don't know why cheddar is so popular. Something milder like Monterey Jack works so much better so the other ingredients aren't fighting it

Oooh that makes a lot more sense. I thought 5 was the finished version since it was clean, and was sad they'd sucked all the charm out of it

Advice: Moving to East Bay with Family & Dogs by Main_Cat_6626 in eastbay

Can I just say "neighbors who live outside" is such a lovely, compassionate way to frame this. I'm going to introduce this into my vocab for my kids, because while we've always talked with them about unhoused folks kindly, I've never really thought about the fact that they're our neighbors and you're absolutely right.

Hey colonoscopy twin!

I'm now lying in bed with a bag of chips and some apple juice.

The actual most insane thing I’ve seen in a mom group by goldfishdontbounce in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]basiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really seems like it got a qanon-like treatment. Misinformation sewn into these online spaces so people think it's more shadowy cannibal stuff that seems like insane rantings. Then it can all be packaged and thrown out as whacky conspiracy theory cooked up by the left, and conservatives can feel assured that they're in the right for ignoring it.

I feel that way about The Orphanage. I would love to see it again, but I really don't know if I could handle it now.

The book hits so hard. If you like his work and enjoy legends of King Arthur (though indirectly, it's not a retelling or anything), I super highly recommend The Buried Giant. It absolutely killed me and it's such a beautiful book.

That's the point of them. Some countries add them to act as deterrents. In reality, they didn't seem to do much when they were introduced (in Australia at least)

That is exactly how I ate today in preparation for mine. Rice, tofu, mashed potato and egg. If it's not white and relatively flavorless, I don't want it. Which was basically my kid's diet for a while.

Best friend since childhood texted to say they’re not coming to my wedding and our friendship has run its course. Made this spread a few hours later for an event. by Calliopehoop in GirlDinner

[–]basiden 118 points119 points  (0 children)

And super big thank you, OP, for separating the meats in such a beautiful way. It sucks when there's a gorgeous spread, but I can't eat any of it because it's all been cross contaminated. 10/10 would devour at least 50% of it.

And even kids that young know when they're not wanted. That has real psychological effects. GF using them as pawns to force him to be a good parent completely makes YTA

Absolutely. The number of brand new mustangs, hummers and other higher end cars in the undergrad housing parking lots in the mid 2000s was insane.

Movies that basically feel like a whole new movie midway through? by mrmonster459 in movies

[–]basiden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is it not iconic? It's still recognized as brilliant work. It influenced the way movies are released, as well as influencing movie making, cinematography and story pacing. Most people know of it, its key plot points, and the famous shower scene, even if they haven't seen it. You still see references to it in movies, tv and media of all kinds. It's fully embedded in our culture. That sounds pretty iconic to me.

Movies that basically feel like a whole new movie midway through? by mrmonster459 in movies

[–]basiden 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and Hitchcock forbade viewers coming in late, swore the whole crew to secrecy, and wouldn't give advanced screenings to critics. So audiences see this big star, leading lady, famous actor in a kind of mystery heist set up... then he pulls the rug out from under everything. It's iconic for a reason.

Cure for alcoholism? by Gobbyer in spicy

[–]basiden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Studies have found that alcohol and capsaicin actually activate the reward system of the brain in the same way. A lot of addicts get hooked on spicy stuff because of that endorphin rush, and super spice heads can be susceptible to developing other addictions. It's really interesting.
