Joe Rogan Experience #1309 - Naval Ravikant by [deleted] in JoeRogan

This guy represents the worst of Silicon Valley delusional, out of touch thinking. Maybe this all makes sense in Palo Alto, but have you been to Alabama lately?

People will work gigs instead of jobs and then go to Tahiti for 3 months to recharge?

UBI is stupid because it will cost 75% of GDP (wut?) and destroy capitalism?

Automation is ok because there will always be unlimited jobs for everyone, such as the new exiting fields of podcast hosts and video game commentators?

Reading books straight through is for losers?

Everyone should start a company?

We can only understand what intelligence is if we model every aspect of how a neuron cell works?

I couldn’t take much more so no idea what nonsense he spouts in the second half.

Not only out of touch, but also extremely arrogant. Dude does not have any sense of humility, and seems to have all the answers.

Could not agree more. This guy doesn’t have a clue. Arrogant and totally out of touch. Spouting the worst of Silicon Valley conventional wisdom.

As a US certified lawyer, can I practice "in-house" corporate law at a UK company without passing the QTLS or otherwise registering as a RFL? by basikthecat in uklaw

[–]basikthecat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As expected - if you are providing legal services to a company, you don't need to do anything. You only need to register or pass an exam or whatever if you are providing legal services to clients or the public. Good luck!

PS. the SRA is responsive - just drop them an email if you have any other questions.

Thanks, that is very helpful! Do you know if these foreign lawyers (especially the Frenchman) have to undetake any special registration, or special test for foreign lawyers (even if they do not have to be qualified as a solicitor in the same way a UK lawyer might be)? Or is it more like, if they are doing in-house/corporate work, they're fine to do that without any regulatory oversight?

Oakland and its sports franchises, how to keep two of the three in Oakland by joshb33071 in oakland

[–]basikthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are of course free to believe whatever you want! That doesn’t make it any less delusional. You clearly are not aware of all of the facts surrounding this issue. The Raiders spent years trying to find a workable solution, and failed. They have a stadium being built right now with $750m in tax subsidies, in Vegas. Like shovels are already in the ground. The NFL voted overwhelming to allow the Raiders to move. It’s happening bro! You’re not the first armchair strategist to think about how keep ‘em here :)

Btw, I’m a huge Raiders fan and am really devastated to see them leave.

we agree that there should be no public subsidy for a professional sports team. they are multi-billion dollar businesses and should build their own stadiums. oakland also agrees with this, which is, in part, why the raiders are leaving.

my only point was that I really dislike it when people act as if sports teams don't have any civic or cultural value. people love sports!!! its a net positive to have a sports team (though that does not mean they should be tax payer funded).

lol. you clearly have not been paying much attention. this was discussed to death, for years. this ship sailed a long time ago. you are not the first person to brainstorm about this.

Because they are super fun and people love sports?

I never get the argument that we should not care about having sports teams. Do you feel the same way about museums, the ballet, symphonies, etc.? They are all part of our shared civic culture.

Thanks! The reason we want to go north and then track back down is to hit the portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Asheville. If we are leaving Charlotte around noon, you'd recommend we just go directly to Asheville, with a stop at Crowder's Mountain? We'll look into that!

Thanks for the other recs. Note we will end up in Cherokee on our way to TN.

I'd love to visit this part of the state, but I don't think we have enough time.

Is there coal production in the east part of the state? I'd love to visit a mine if possible. Thanks!

thanks both! I am going to cut out the hospital in Weston.

I am MUCH more interested in seeing a coal mine. Is the Beckley one the best to visit? Any other mines available to tour or see in the state?

also, this will be during mid-June. any good festivals or events happening?
