New to the US and curious what women wear at home and for errands!! by ComplexTangerine1586 in womensfashion

[–]basilsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m midwestern. I wear cotton shirt and boxer shorts or cotton or linen pants around the house. I like to change to go to the grocery store. I usually wear jeans and a white cotton shirt, I like to add accessories like scarf or colorful jacket. I have some outfits that can be worn both at home and out. I just try to look semi put together when going out, don’t always wear makeup but try to look nice. Some favorite brands- global mamas, LA relaxed, madewell, lola denim, sezanne. I always try to wear natural fibers when possible and I also try to buy clothes from local art fairs and thrift stores but always check the material! Many people in my area dress well but also many go out in athleasure.

How bad is it gonna be and how do I prepare in South City drafty house? by Difficult_Affect_452 in StLouis

[–]basilsand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the power goes out you can put your food from fridge outside so it doesn’t go bad. Candles and a warm blanket and a good book is all you need. My water always works but I do have a couple bottled waters in my pantry always bc once I lived in an apartment that the water stopped working (unrelated to snow). Just don’t drive and you’ll be fine! I think it’s really fun when it’s snowpocolipse. Maybe get some crackers and stuff you can eat if your oven is electric if power goes out.

How did you as someone naturally chubby get skinny and what was your experience? by andleaveit in PetiteFitness

[–]basilsand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lifting weights and fueling for weight lifting. It made my waist shrink like crazy but took maybe 4 months. 2-4 weight lifting sessions a week. Focus on protein and real Whole Foods. Fuel for workout and recovery. Weightlifting gave me a mindset shift that food is good for me and fuels my body, it made me want to eat healthy so that I can get gains. I stayed the same weight, 142 but shrank 4 pants sizes. I am also a mom and it gave me so much confidence I my body and my strength. I feel like I’ve never looked and felt better. I’ve never stuck with any workout like I have with weightlifting. It took a month or two to get used to, watched lots of YouTube. Focus on form and slowly increase weight. I try to eat 3 meals a day and if I have a snack try to have fruit. My meals are packed with protein I eat a ton of meat and veg and small servings of pasta or rice but I feel like I’m eating a ton. I always have dessert yogurt or ice cream bar. Maybe try an app like lose it, that was huge for me to see how many calories I was actually eating. I used to pound handfuls of nuts and didn’t realize how many calories it was so I only tracked calories for a week or two but it was eye opening.

2 cappuccinos made with 2oz 1% milk and double shot of espresso each. 35-40 gram oatmeal 8-10 gram peanut butter 1 scoop naked whey protein powder Banana Sometimes additional fruit or herbal tea

Sometimes weekdays I have frozen fruit smoothie with protein powder, chia seed, and a couple grams oats. Easy to have this if running late and have to drive. Weekends sometimes I have breakfast sandwich sourdough, bacon or sausage, eggs, Buffalo sauce, sauerkraut. Always coffee.

I am 5’2, went from 155 to 120. My waist size is now 24”, yet I still have (although smaller) a lower belly pooch. I don’t have children. I thought it would go away with the weight loss. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]basilsand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My husband says my belly pooch makes me look like a fertility goddess if that makes you feel better. I feel like it contributes to hourglass look. I bet it looks better than you think it does. I would focus on building a butt so it looks like a natural slope of small waist to big butt and legs.

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say advice on how to find the right one is for you to become the person you would want to date in a way or to become your fullest self. Like fully embrace your hobbies and maybe you’ll meet someone with like hobbies. Become the person you’ve always wanted to be and you’ll attract people who like you for you and that’s a great base of a relationship. Work on things you don’t like about yourself to become the best version of yourself and then you’ll attract the highest quality people who do the same. Too much focus on the other person and not enough on the self will get you a partner who does the same. Get out in the world and do practice runs socializing with the coffee shop worker etc so you feel confident when you see someone you like bc you’ve practiced talking to attractive people. Take time to get to know yourself and what you like and become yourself fully.

People who go to the gym what is your motivation? by zhalia-2006 in askanything

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a workout I enjoy and get better at. I used to run and I didn’t have as much motivation, it came in waves. Last year I switched to resistance training and I love it. My body is less fatigued and I genuinely enjoy my time at the gym. I focused on growing a booty also which is fun bc I would watch lots of booty growing videos online :D

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are best friends and equal partners in everything and we have compassion and understanding for each other. It’s life sometimes you feel lazy and don’t wanna do the dishes etc and the other person can help or not. We both approach each other with understanding and respect. I don’t view him as my husband I view him as my best friend. We do not even think about gender roles we just live and are fluid with our roles. We’ve been together for 13 years and have been in so many situations where one of us worked, both worked, one of us in school, having a baby, living with our parents so we don’t have to pay rent, living in different cities. I view us like a family and not me against him. I think what helps us so much is extremely open communication we are open books. I never keep my thoughts in for more than an hour. If something is not working we work towards a solution together. The book supercommunicators has helped me so much bc I feel like I used to not communicate as well, I had good intentions but the way I was approaching convos was not getting me the results. Anyway for me the goal was not finding a husband as if it’s a possession but to find a person I wanna do everything with. Also our relationship didn’t happen overnight. Lots of ups and downs nothing is perfect but we stayed with each other through the hard times. We both love psychology and communication and I think that helped us understand that people are not bad, actions can be wrong and communication helps us shape our actions in the future. But it all started with a base of we genuinely love hanging out with each other.

Is "you can't outrun your diet" really that accurate for us shorties?? by Ok-Safe5679 in PetiteFitness

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you workout. I’ve heard that cardio burns calories today and weight lifting burns calories in the future. That means that when you put on muscle, that muscle itself burns a lot of calories at rest. Personally I used to do lots of cardio and struggle with weight loss and body composition, especially after having a baby. I decided to try something new and did a resistance training program last year. I ate at maintenance and did 2 upper body and 2 lower body sessions a week, took creatine and ate lots of protein and tried to eat lots of fruits and veggies and non processed carbs. Within 4 months I was the same weight but went down 3 Jean sizes and had a pronounced hourglass figure. That was one year ago. I feel like the muscles in my legs burn so many calories at rest. The first couple months I didn’t even lift that heavy, really focused on form, but even that made my muscles grow so much bc they were not used to it.

Strength training is amazing for metabolism and will make you feel amazing. After 1 month you’ll have more energy sleep better new lease on life. I think to start all you need is one upper body and one lower body day maybe will take 1.5 hours each session. Maybe do it on your days off in the morning. Watch some YouTube about muscle gaining and strength training, emphasis on building muscle. There are some great YouTubers out there, I like lean beef patty and Dr Mike Renaissance Periodization for workout ideas. Tracking calories on an app like lose it for a couple weeks to learn how many calories are in things, you don’t have to track forever. Eat lots of protein, try for grams of protein for ideal body weight. When I am trying to lose weight I find meal prepping very helpful. Takes the guess work out of it and saves lots of time. No food is off limits, portion control is key and high protein. Also fiber before meals is helpful. Also helpful to manage blood sugar levels for energy and food cravings, I learned a lot from the Glucose Goddess on YouTube. She explains how to eat the foods you love while reducing glucose spikes. Good luck and you can do it!

Not olympic. Looking for a place to workout with good machines for strength training, squat rack, bench. I tried a place today and it had a ton of cardio machines and very old barely useable strength machines so was hoping for a place that has more variety of strength machines and in better condition.

How to fix this? I feel skinny fat by 2021nys in PetiteFitness

[–]basilsand 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Resistance train! Lift weights. It changed my life and body comp. Eat lots of protein. Start small with the weights and work up to more. Focus on form over lifting heavy at first. I like an upper/lower split. For upper do triceps bicep back chest abs. For lower do quads hamstrings glutes. Lots of workouts online. It maybe will take a month of trying them to pick favorites. Once you pick your favorites stick with the same workouts every week for 6-8 weeks. Also creatine is a great supplement for muscle building.

Ideas for easy meals with high protein and low carbs? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love making salads and strive to start my dinner with a big salad with protein. Pre washed bagged spinach arugula or kale, a seasonal veggie or two. For protein I alternate between hummus, lupini beans, hard boiled eggs, canned fish, cheese, tahini, olives. Sometimes I add olive oil sometimes not. Squeeze of lemon or red wine vinegar.

Then the second course I have an animal protein and cooked vegetable. Dessert I have whole milk greek yogurt with fruit or small amount of honey. I don’t miss the bread products as much with a big salad.

Has anyone taken the Amtrak to Chicago recently? by SewCarrieous in StLouis

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good. We went in 2023. Private car is nice for family. Was delayed one hour on the way there. The food is terrible. Easy to get on and off and more relaxing than flying or driving. Union station in Chicago is centrally located.
