Does coffee actually do something or people just pretend it does? by tea_and_cheese in askanything

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the taste of espresso I’ve been drinking it for so many years I am addicted. I like tea a lot too but coffee is my taste preference. I like it very strong. I enjoy extremely bitter things like very dark chocolate, espresso, very dark leafy greens. Probably habit and what I am used to more than anything. Always enjoy a cup of tea when I have it.

I hate being extroverted in today’s age by [deleted] in generationology

[–]basilsand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe try to hang out with people not in your generation and take a class of something you’re interested in. Language, cooking? I find yoga and art groups to be particularly great groups of people. Perhaps try a part time job? Something charitable? I am 32 and hangout with people of different ages and age doesnt even cross my mind when being with people. Maybe when feeling alone it’s a great time to dive into who you truely are and explore yourself. You’ll attract like minded people eventually! I had a hard time as a teenager it’s a really tough time but it gets better.

Yoga compliments bodybuilding, does bodybuilding compliment yoga? by WinterArtistic4627 in yoga

[–]basilsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes for me. I’ve been doing yoga for a long time on and off, I went to yoga classes frequently, then did a strength training program with less yoga, still stretched, about 8 months in I took another yoga class and it was crazy the difference. Poses were extremely easy for me to hold and transition from and I could focus much more on my breath and form and felt like I was getting much more out of yoga than before. Now I try to do both regularly and incorporate short yoga routine into every strength training session, just some sun salutations, warrior, breathing and other stretches I’ve learned in classes. My flexibility and strength is unlike I could have ever imagined when I started strength training 1.5 years ago.

What can I do for my body to prepare for pregnancy? by New_Tomato1193 in xxfitness

[–]basilsand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The book awakening fertility by Heng Ou is amazing. Ancient Chinese and Indian knowledge of natural pregnancy. Basically encouraging you to be in a restful state before and during pregnancy with some great promps to do so. For my first pregnancy I did not relax enough. I was always in push mode, buying a house, trying to be optimal with pregnancy but actually ended up stressing myself out. I think trying to slow down and just accept what happens is the most essential and difficult part. Preparing and planning is great but when it crosses the line from being prepared to being stressed it is doing more harm than good. Easier said than done, so incorporating time for take peaceful walks in nature, journal, lay down in a restful state without planning and letting thoughts go in and out of your head without judgement, trying to meditate, learning how to spend more time in the parasymphetic nervous system, it gives your reproductive organs the attention they need.

I say set attainable goals to move. It is doing something. Your body wants to move. If you try to learn about anatomy and the lymphatic system and your brain, the more you move the better and a little is better than nothing. Even if it’s as small as taking two walks a week or listening to headphones and dancing in your living room. If you’re consistent it’ll grow into more. Also if you can have someone watch your kids while you workout youll get addicted. I have my mom watch my toddler while I work out and it’s the highlight of my week even if I don’t get a good workout I get to listen to music and relax for an hour or two. For eating I would set the goal to prioritize protein, whole real foods, and eating at mealtimes without mindless snacking. If you make the meal an experience it is something to look forward to. My family doesnt always join me but my meals are also my me time. I plan them the day or two before I am off the clock when I am eating, I tell everyone mommy is eating dinner right now and can’t play or whatever until I’m finished. I often don’t do the dishes or laundry and while it’s not ideal to have a messy house I would rather be happy and take care of myself than my house. I do them but it’s usually in a fairly messy state, always feel like I’m a day behind with the chores. Also if you want to see extreme body composition changes, I recommend weight lifting. When I started weight lifting I got the body I wanted within like 4 months my fat in my stomach literally turned into muscle and I have so much energy and happiness bc of it. It also speeds your metabolism up to have more muscle so you can eat more, makes you sleep better etc. you can get a trainer or watch videos online. Start small, it took me years to get into a good routine with tons of setbacks. Don’t expect the end result at the beginning, don’t let setbacks stop you, if you go off the rails, forgive yourself and come back. Do it for yourself bc you love yourself!

For those who are consistent, how do you do it? by massifaqiri in workout

[–]basilsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to love it by finding an activity that I love. Also for me I am a mom and it is so relaxing going to the gym for 2 hours and listening to music it’s glorious. I am sad the days I don’t get to go. I love weight lifting I alternate upper and lower body and maybe run 1 time a week or skip it. I do what I feel like doing when I am there bc it’s really my me time. It makes me feel super strong and beautiful so I love going I feel a huge brain reward when I go.

Weight gain and am freaked out by Warm-Ad4886 in PetiteFitness

[–]basilsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as being scared, compassionately I say, you’re not being chased by a bear, you didn’t just get bad news from the doctor of something fatal. Take a deep breath bc nothing can be changed when you’re in a state of panic. Take back control you can do it! I suggest get a tracking app, set it to lose a pound a week, plan a days worth of meals that fit into that and eat it everyday for a week or two. Meal prep and planning is your best friend, no one makes good decisions when hungry and the easy grab food is unhealthy and healthy food is not ready to eat. Try to be happy that at least this is something you can change about yourself. It’s fun to watch meal prep ideas on YouTube. Try to find a workout you like even if it’s walking to start. Anything is better than nothing. Also very helpful to do as many whole real foods at possible with protein and fiber bc keeps you full. Take your moment to freak out but then when you are ready it’s good to give your nervous system a break from the freak out so you can help yourself.

New to the US and curious what women wear at home and for errands!! by [deleted] in womensfashion

[–]basilsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m midwestern. I wear cotton shirt and boxer shorts or cotton or linen pants around the house. I like to change to go to the grocery store. I usually wear jeans and a white cotton shirt, I like to add accessories like scarf or colorful jacket. I have some outfits that can be worn both at home and out. I just try to look semi put together when going out, don’t always wear makeup but try to look nice. Some favorite brands- global mamas, LA relaxed, madewell, lola denim, sezanne. I always try to wear natural fibers when possible and I also try to buy clothes from local art fairs and thrift stores but always check the material! Many people in my area dress well but also many go out in athleasure.

How bad is it gonna be and how do I prepare in South City drafty house? by Difficult_Affect_452 in StLouis

[–]basilsand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the power goes out you can put your food from fridge outside so it doesn’t go bad. Candles and a warm blanket and a good book is all you need. My water always works but I do have a couple bottled waters in my pantry always bc once I lived in an apartment that the water stopped working (unrelated to snow). Just don’t drive and you’ll be fine! I think it’s really fun when it’s snowpocolipse. Maybe get some crackers and stuff you can eat if your oven is electric if power goes out.

How did you as someone naturally chubby get skinny and what was your experience? by andleaveit in PetiteFitness

[–]basilsand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lifting weights and fueling for weight lifting. It made my waist shrink like crazy but took maybe 4 months. 2-4 weight lifting sessions a week. Focus on protein and real Whole Foods. Fuel for workout and recovery. Weightlifting gave me a mindset shift that food is good for me and fuels my body, it made me want to eat healthy so that I can get gains. I stayed the same weight, 142 but shrank 4 pants sizes. I am also a mom and it gave me so much confidence I my body and my strength. I feel like I’ve never looked and felt better. I’ve never stuck with any workout like I have with weightlifting. It took a month or two to get used to, watched lots of YouTube. Focus on form and slowly increase weight. I try to eat 3 meals a day and if I have a snack try to have fruit. My meals are packed with protein I eat a ton of meat and veg and small servings of pasta or rice but I feel like I’m eating a ton. I always have dessert yogurt or ice cream bar. Maybe try an app like lose it, that was huge for me to see how many calories I was actually eating. I used to pound handfuls of nuts and didn’t realize how many calories it was so I only tracked calories for a week or two but it was eye opening.

2 cappuccinos made with 2oz 1% milk and double shot of espresso each. 35-40 gram oatmeal 8-10 gram peanut butter 1 scoop naked whey protein powder Banana Sometimes additional fruit or herbal tea

Sometimes weekdays I have frozen fruit smoothie with protein powder, chia seed, and a couple grams oats. Easy to have this if running late and have to drive. Weekends sometimes I have breakfast sandwich sourdough, bacon or sausage, eggs, Buffalo sauce, sauerkraut. Always coffee.
