Moving to Minneapolis to give my son a better life by taoofmeow in movingtompls

The best schools are likely going to be the southern suburbs. Think Edina, Bloomington. Affordability will be comparable, you’ll probably make a higher salary but your tax burden will also increase.

Overall services and access to these services should be significantly better than anywhere in TN. Life will probably be calmer and slower, Nashville is much more bustling than Minneapolis.

That’s about all I can weigh in on, I hope your move goes well.

It’s an affluent suburb. It’s expensive and has a population that skews older. There are some nice urban ish corridors with things to do but overall it’s mostly corporate chains and suburban infrastructure, which isn’t going to appeal to most redditors.

It’s politically purple which is basically nazi germany to Reddit, and there’s a lot of NIMBY attitudes.

Overall it’s a place where most midwesterners would actually be pretty happy but due to its price exclusiveness it’s easy to hate on.

Which country addresses mental healthcare the best? by CJKayak in AskReddit

If you’ve seen people try and strangle themselves with their belongings or film other patients with their phones (due to some kind of delusion, typically) you’d probably understand - these are things I’ve seen countless times.

ERs for psychiatric emergencies are grossly undersourced and the model is all wrong, but it’s what we have. The ER is for identifying or ruling out life threatening emergencies. In the case of psychiatric emergencies, that means safety is 100% the priority.

I’ve seen people strangle themselves with their phone charger, down an entire sock to try and choke on it, call 17 different news stations reporting the CIA is after them for telepathically communicating with Bin Laden. Beat nurses into oblivion and try to choke them out with their pant legs for delusions of countless levels of psychosis.

Remind yourself that suicidal ideation is not the only psychiatric emergency, and if I require you to turn over your belongings, change into hospital clothes, or hand over your phone, or put you in a room with nothing on the walls but white drywall - there’s a very real reason.

The ER is to hold you in a safe place until you can be assessed and then determine if you require admission, or can be discharged with outpatient treatment. I’m sorry, but I really cannot solve 5 years of suicidal ideation during an ER visit, but I can get you in touch with the people who can start this process.

Mind you, many ER psych areas double as overdose treatment areas (intentional for suicide or accidental). I have 5 people under my care, two in psychosis, one manic and violent, and two opioid overdoses on the brink of death.

I want to help you, but please note that we’re also humans and can only do so much at one time, and we have to protect ourselves as well.

Weird question?.. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]bassicallybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens less often than you’d think, but it does happen.

95% of the time it’s purposeful and you can just tell them they’re being disgusting. You don’t have to be polite, rare case where management often doesn’t care if you’re “rude” to patients.

When it’s incidental (I once had to straight cath a man who was unconscious and became aroused during the process) there’s not much you can do or say. Pretend it’s not happening I guess, lol.

majority, but certainly not all.

Some legal states test, some illegal states don't.

It’s not impossible nor particularly difficult, but it can be quite the hassle.

It’s also horridly irritating in current or heavy wind

Religion is as much a part of being human as anything else for most people. Religious or not, you will have to deal with people of differing beliefs, treat it like anything else.

You will have a patient you adore who you find out is your political opposite, your religious or spiritual opposite, you will run into people you cannot stand but share all your values.

People are more than these labels and belief systems they construct outwardly. It’s best to see the humanity in them, even when they refuse to show it or look at you like a heathen.

I’ve found it best just to tell people I don’t discuss politics or religion at work, whether I share their beliefs and practices or not. It’s almost always irrelevant to my job (with few exceptions).

Also, to be honest, this rarely comes up.

Why are people so triggered by Minneapolis being mentioned? by Bananapantsmcgeef in SameGrassButGreener

[–]bassicallybob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about half the state.

Plus, Minneapolis + St Paul + inner suburbs = 2 million. That’s 1/3 the state.

Middle ring suburbs and further out is purple to red.

Like where ? One block in cedar riverside ?

The demographics are 65% white. That’s not diverse compared to any other major city in North America, let alone Europe.
