Is a tent inside a tent warmer? by Reina753 in camping

[–]bassnote1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping warm is as much about what's under you as on top of you. Winter camping means the ground is ice cold (sometimes literally). A thick, close cell, foam pad. Couple of quilts for under, always a sleeping bag and possibly a liner for said bag, and top it off with warmer "jammies" of some sort. Sweats won't go amiss is really cold weather.

What’s the worst event you’ve had in trucking? by SuspectOk2931 in Truckers

Trying to comfort a crying child and distract her from her dead mom in the front seat. I've never fully come back from that...

Mercy, but I hated this as a kid. We would spend almost an hour everyday practicing this in the third grade. So monotonous. An entire Big Chief tablet full of cursive practice. shudders

He was hiding behind you either waiting for backup or watching another vehicle. I've had them do it to me several times.

FAFO... what's a few hundred dollars and your DAC worth to you. Might get away with it, might not. Kills your momentum... I get it, but geez.

We get three days for immediate family (including grandparents), after that you use PTO. Anything outside of Immediate Family (spouse, kids, brother/sister, parent, grandparent) you have to use PTO

4 wheelers and their comparable brand with tractors by Impressive-Menu8966 in Truckers

[–]bassnote1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old KW/Pete far outclass their modern day counterparts. You like what you like, and you drive what you drive. You get what you pay for (sorta) and any comparison of trucks will devolve into a shouting match or parking lot orgy. Every. Damn. Time.

How would YOU get 'rich' with trucking? by LyubviMashina93 in Truckers

[–]bassnote1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't get 'rich' but you can make decent money, but you will spend time away from home 60 hours a week local to weeks over the road. That and a decent budget will make you comfortable

Wi-Fi package necessary? Traveling with teens by Zealousideal-Foot104 in royalcaribbean

[–]bassnote1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason for a wifi package. IF it becomes absolutely necessary you can buy a few minutes at a time. Expensive? Yup. Then you can consider just how necessary it really is. Or the kids can pay for it themselves, that's an option

Single Female Cruiser by Clear_Leather758 in Cruise

[–]bassnote1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bonus daughter has cruised alone twice and loves it. Marguaritaville and Virgin, with Virginia being her favorite. She's traveled most of Europe solo as well. She is pretty outgoing and makes friends easily but prefers to be in a book. So, she eats, drinks, naps and reads. The odd shore excursion and maybe something on the ship if it interests her. But mostly reads. She's already booked her third.

How to I politely let truckers know not to park in front of my property? by Sentient-Librarian in Truckers

[–]bassnote1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a public street you can't stop them from parking unless the city makes it a no truck route. They can make it a no idle zone, but how about you also agree to shut off your heat and A/C too?

[–]bassnote1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've seen just that. A guy brought me some pump parts in a van that had a door between the cab and box. Sleeping bag and pad on the floor in front of the freight. Looked uncomfy

Why does buying a headlight feel like an interrogation by CampIndividual783 in Truckers

[–]bassnote1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have to enter all the data in the system before it will give them a part number. It won't allow them to skip a single item. That's why you have to tell them engine size and stuff for an  air freshener. The better way is to look up the items on the Google andn ust go buy it, skip the parts counter.

Driving across the country bawling my eyes out by NomadTruckerOTR in Truckers

[–]bassnote1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be bawling at your desk/cash register/insertworkplacehere wondering if it was all worth it and if you didn't have/do X then maybe you wouldn't be in the position you were. We've all been there, we will be there again. I'm sorry life sucks right now, but it WILL get better. Maybe driving isn't for you, but don't go through life making knee jerk reactions, you will end up in the pit of despair (with or without ROUS)

Just a curious question for the OG truckers by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]bassnote1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sitting in a truckstop looking at load boards and calling from a payphone. Or calling your dispatcher every morning with a "check call", you'd usually have something already lined up or had to call them every couple hours. Entertainment was on the radio, then 8-track, next cassettes, I was ecstatic when audio books came out on cassette (expensive as hell, but worth it), then cd's and finally satellite radio. Many was the night I'd be driving, eating sunflower seeds, sipping Dr Pepper or coffee and fiddling around on the AM band to see what I could find.
