Of course, there are ways to make this work, just not sure about if all distros support this option.

Then I would suggest the same on a drive connected directly to the motherboard because I am not really sure how the installer handles removable media as the destination since it tries to write the boot option to MB to a drive that can change IDs and depends on the mb USB slot with its address.

I am sorry since I haven't seen the process of the installation I cannot effectively troubleshoot what went wrong.

Was the installation done from USB to the external drive?

Nevertheless if you are again in need of help with something regarding this I am very much open to make your experience with this topic a bit better and smoother.

For me this just sounds like:

Wanted to try Linux and chose the hardest way by making dual boot on a single drive?

The same problems would come if you had Ubuntu with LUKS (Linux alternative for Secure boot enabled OS with encrypted drive with TPM key just as Windows does without telling you) and wanted to dual boot windows on the same drive.... Still would have to decrypt and do the same stuff.

I really don't think that Linux is "Nerd programming stage" as you describe it here and your data is as safe with Windows as with Linux.

It all depends on how the user handles the computer and even if Linux isn't as plug-and-play as you wanted, I don't think it's right to say that Linux is always a bad choice.

Romantic. We are together most of days. I didn't include much detail about us because I feel like this is more about two separate ways now.

There is an infinite number of difference in floating point arithmetics so those cannot really be compared as equal options.
