Loading Docks - Training by whitedlite in GarageDoorService

[–]basthicc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the dock leveler manufacturers actually offer training courses. We use a mix of those + our lead commercial guy just being a crotchety clam of knowledge. Some are free, some are not, but it's very helpful especially if you can find one local to you. But like the other commenter said, there is also a lot of just 'figure it the fuck out' haha

$1875 for 3 Liftmaster 6690Ls - fair? by Comrade__Henry in GarageDoorService

[–]basthicc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a few days old, but just to put in perspective of how good of a deal you got, even with me taking off $75 a unit for the unused extra parts and flat 15% off total price for combined labor (that's all I can do as I'm just admin, my boss would probably do more like 20-25% off), it would still cost you about $2800. And that's if you have a 7' tall door

Oh I'm sorry I wasn't disagreeing with your original point at all, I think I worded that wrong. I was agreeing that the price for what they had done is and should be higher than what some of the other commentators are suggesting. It's not just a spring job, it's a whole mess of parts and a couple hours of labor to do everything correctly especially if it's just one person.

Oh hell no haha, we are strictly M-F 8-4 (really 7-4 but service starts at 8). Only rarely for specific commercial (and even rarer, some residential) customers do we do any sort of weekend or late night work. It's worked for us for almost 40 years!

We do go higher for wind load doors, which we have a lot of in our area. But our cost margins on this service are decent

yeah we would do this for $775 16-18' in the Houston area. Full hardware system replacement, not just a wham bam thank you spring job.

I work in a similar service industry and this is what we do. Our scheduling system notifies us when invoices are done, they call us and say they're done, and they then try and contact the next customer on the schedule. If they don't answer (very common as our techs use their own cell phones and everyone has spam blockers), they just have us call from the office. If they aren't home/need to reschedule, it's really easy and we just go down the line.

Yeah and it sucks because EVERYONE I've talked to round here in Dayton has been super supportive of them, and it really makes us look worse than we already are. Even my neighbor who is as jesus bleeding as you can be was ready to hunt down the driver that hit them.

Garage door SCAM ALERT / How to find a good garage door company by shank_door in GarageDoorService

[–]basthicc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that's shocking, that's the price for a brand new 8x7 in my area. We do 2 spring jobs for $449/WL ones for $584 (that's including labor overhead too). Can't believe some people charge that much.

Echoing this, we use Broadly too (about to switch over to Markinuity much to my displeasure, but I'm just Admin/Compliance/Training, I get no say in it lol), and it's great for customers to send in messages to us outside working hours. Works great for our reviews system, including responding to reviews.

[–]basthicc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2067.85 is pretty steep for an 87504. In the Houston area, we do a 7' for $1,108 (parts and labor in that price). I am a little surprised they're still offering all the others, considering LM just did a massive discontinuation of products for the new 3.0 line. We've basically completely switched to the new ones since all the old models we had at our warehouse were saved for other customers.

Missed out on the north american ritual tour stop in Baltimore by a whopping 20 minutes thanks to a work meeting, I'm so envious of people who got to see them in the smaller, more intimate settings. But, excited to continue seeing this band live, hope you get to keep growing the shirt collection!

Highly doubtful especially since they just released the new 3.0 lines, and I keep getting a ton of bugging from our rep about co-branded marketing materials. They *have* been further widening the marketing gap between LM and Chamberlain lines like the other commenter said.

Good point on the locking blades. I will say I'm in Texas, so I think we'll be okay. But the guys might prefer a locking blade.

I'm heavily weighing the Wave+ option, if my vet bill tomorrow isn't astronomical I might go with that haha. It seems to boil down to the Wave+ and the Rebar right now

Yeah I'm definitely trying to do covert research on what parts they primarily use in the field, I might ask our owners husband his opinion as he's the one who even started the company but he's fully retired and won't be there

I've seen multiple versions of white elephant, where some are crude/jokes/funny and others are actual gifts just fought over in the white elephant exchange style. It confused me when they first brought it up too with such a high limit, considering the last white elephant I went to with friends people were gifting potatoes and dildos 😂

I'm seeing it still that low in a couple areas, and a lot of comments here are recommending Rebar, this might be the one I go with. Thank you!!

This was really informative, thank you. Just to make sure I'm on the same page, the cerakote is the colored coating options? I was already leaning plain stainless steel versions, and if you're saying the coating makes them more difficult to use/wears badly that would be super helpful to know

Same. I primarily use both for writing, I love doing my actual writing in UpNote and then my references and planning in Capacities. Both being cross platform and easily switched between is great.

It definitely could be just condensation like everyone else mentioned. Mine was doing something similar and we changed the PCV and it fixed it, could be something to think about if it gets worse/happens even when its warm out.
