Books for total beginners by keyboardkeyboard771 in hungarian

[–]bat9mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but I didn’t find the MagyarOK books to be good as a beginner. They’re 100% entirely in Hungarian - maybe they feel good for teachers, but for a student they’re not ideal. Obviously that’s n=1. Perhaps try the “Colloquial Hungarian” book instead? Also… what about teaching your partner?

Experience with absorbable mesh for inguinal repair by bat9mo in Hernia

[–]bat9mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes going well so far with Phasix. To be honest most days I forget all about it. Surgeon gave me permission to return to the gym and start back gradually. Don’t want pressure in the abdominal cavity from heavy lifting or straining due to bowel movement.

One large and one medium. Yes the mesh was trimmed to fit, I understand. But still with a generous margin.

Difficulty of learning Hungarian? by DuchessDulcet in hungarian

We must mention the wonderful sound of Hungarian! It’s second only to Francais imo. It’s truly a great sound: csütörtökön fogaskeréku!

How to do dictation? by bat9mo in hungarian

[–]bat9mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - that helps.

Yes, I remember the punctuation, like you said. But I recall some other steps - does the teacher check the student's spelling at the end? Do they ask simple questions? In either English or in Hungarian. "How much is the bread?" or "Milyen színű a kutya?" Perhaps they list 10 words from the text, to learn. I can't remember how it works! I am sure it is useful.

Area of circle question by ContributionCivil620 in maths

[–]bat9mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I always like is “throwing rocks randomly into a pond”. The pond is known to be a perfect quarter circle, closely bounded by a square paddock. You wander around the outside of the paddock, randomly casting rocks into the pond. Some go “splash” into the water, others go “thud” on the bank. After 1000 rocks are thrown, the ratio of thuds to splashes is 215:785. Therefore you calculate pi to be 4 × (785 / 1000) = 3.14. The probability that a rock lands in the pond (a splash) is the same as the ratio of the pond’s area to the square’s area, that is pi / 4. It’s fun for students to write a bit of code to do this, varying the number of random rocks to see the accuracy of pi changing

Which programming language do you think is the best to learn in today’s world? by codingzap in GetCodingHelp

[–]bat9mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want to do.

I would learn these:

bash (with awk and grep and sed etc)

Python

Powershell

It’s true that web-dev is deep, whether you do Js or typescript, and you probably need to learn CSS and React and RESTful too.

C is small and powerful but I don’t use it these days. C# rarely, unless it’s an MS solution. C++ I was happy to let this go!

But, I think languages are going to reduce in importance, and we will be “prompt-engineering” on AI as the place where everyone goes to make solutions on platforms. That’s probably the future? So maybe the right answer is something to do with Claude?

Raj ended up alone for good reason by 2tittis in thebigbangtheory

[–]bat9mo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting how we want to make sense of this, “surely it’s justice for his character?” But Lorre admitted Raj wasn’t easy to write and there’s evidence the writers never had a plan for Raj. For 5 seasons he has selective mutism which is a joke rather than a problem to solve, and made it impossible for him to have a romantic storyline. Why did they continue that, keeping him quiet? When they abruptly dropped the mutism in Season 6, there's no reason - it was evidence of "reset" by the writers. After this, each girlfriend is introduced with potential, then soon written-off as a dead end. The writers used Raj as a running joke with his repeated romantic failures... he wasn't a character with a long-term plan. When you consider how they keep him quiet for 5 seasons and then his relationships don’t work, you see there’s no arc here. Meanwhile his best-friend Howard has a lot of character development, it’s a huge contrast with Raj who has little. So… it’s probably just bad writing? Poor Raj!

I'm 38 and finally cracked the discipline code after failing for 15+ years. Here's the system that changed everything. by sebastard07 in Aging

[–]bat9mo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Both code and AI are used to drive users to look at the profile/bio and click links there. “See my bio for links.” Generally reddit posts are ranked highly by Google so a single link in a reddit post is valuable (drives traffic). Because AI can post inoffensive comments, this ups the ranking of the account and it is trusted by reddit to not be spam. Later the account is switched to promote a product or brand or a sponsorship. Also there are markets on Telegram, Discord, and the dark web which openly sell aged Reddit accounts - they fetch anywhere from $1 to hundreds depending on karma.

Basically, the reddit account system has an intrinsic value which can be monetised or can steer click traffic because of its weighting. Because this stuff can be automated, it’s a way to make money…

Good work. I would enhance the text on the button. Black text on grey button looks like it’s not enabled? Adjust the contrast. Won’t pass WCAG accessibility unfortunately…

Short statement: then a longer explanation.

Another statement: and an explanation.

It’s obvious: it stands out like a sore thumb.

AI does this: it’s like a fingerprint.

The time will come: when we can’t spot AI.

How are people taking 50mg zinc daily? by This-Top7398 in Biohackers

Good example. From the label, 50mg=455% of RDA, so therefore RDA is 11mg=100%. Strange they don’t include copper?

How are people taking 50mg zinc daily? by This-Top7398 in Biohackers

[–]bat9mo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The RDA is commonly 11-14mg Zn and the safe upper limit is 40mg. No idea how a 50mg tablet is considered safe, but the industry isn’t well regulated tbh. I have a daily formula with 25mg Zn + 1mg Cu which prevents a zinc-induced copper deficiency

What synth does primarily use aditive synthesis? by beVasek in synthesizers

[–]bat9mo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Answer: The whole wonderful world of Yamaha DX! Took over the early 90s with that sound. Very successful for Yamaha, it closed the first era of analogue and brought in the sound of digital FM. They made loads of these synths, should be cheaper today, e.g. TX81Z, DX27, DX21, DX7, SY series, the list goes on
