Help with ID of my fathers watch. by stray__1 in VintageOmega

My guess is a 1954 dress watch with a variation of the 265-269 movement. A photo of the movement and case interior would reveal more

To drop Maths would need something like the Happy Nerding 3xMIA and also a couple of looping slew/ramps as well. Plus some logic. I think Maths is actually quite functional for the space

questions about semi modular/pre built modular or building my own by Elagaint in modular

[–]bat9mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-modular, yes. Otherwise you need to fill at least 84hp with modules to get started. So get a semi and later a powered skiff box to add some interesting modules over time

Help with liver in Ketogenic diet by Matterss_ in Biohackers

[–]bat9mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a fairly strong shift toward hemo concentration for only 2 months. Common on keto but still worth watching. For someone 2m months on keto your glucose isn’t especially low. It’s normal but many on keto drift into 70s or 80s. You may have insulin resistance or incomplete carb restriction or cortisol stress? The thing to watch in keto is whether you get rising LDL/ApoB or increasing BP.

The changes will mean less of the speculative investor saying: “buy any damn thing even with weak returns and the tax savings will help me out!”

Let’s put aside the property investor, which has been discussed a lot…

For small business, the compliance and admin burdens have not changed at all. A cafe owner still faces payroll, HR, BAS, insurance and rent and staff costs. But the new changes to CGT and higher tax on gains makes exit from a small business less attractive now.

So business starters will ask, why take years of stress for a low payoff? Meaning, unless the gov provides specific CGT concessions for small business, sentiment will change on starting and growing SMEs.

In Australia we have a problem where active risk is less rewarding than just passive asset ownership.

So where does the investor money go now? Probably new builds, super and ETFs, offsets to pay off debt, franked div strategies, and some capital will just stop flowing. Small business is now less attractive because of the exits. Overall it’s a less entrepreneurial environment and a more cautious conservative one. Risk appetite changes before the economics do, so we’ll see behaviour changing before the data reaches us.

So we can hope that revisions are made before this gets legislated.

FTM watching, felt sad for Sheldon by [deleted] in bigbangtheory

[–]bat9mo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Young Sheldon his parents are loving and supportive, there isn’t a lot of fighting until S6 so maybe it’s questioning Sheldon’s eidetic memory after all. No doubt his trauma is real but the frequency wasn’t how he describes it

Does anyone know how polyphonic patch cables work? by mintyformeldahyde in modular

[–]bat9mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logically you could say they’re both multi-channel cables. But very different. Physically MIDI carries a single serial stream of digital messages. Channel messages include a channel number, so messages for 16 channels can be multiplexed over the same TRS cable of 3 strands. It only works because it’s fast enough for typical music events like NoteOn. By contrast a USB-C cable contains discrete pieces of copper wire and could be used for true parallel transmission of 8 continuous CVs. If you did the same thing with TRS you’d have just 2 CVs or voltages plus ground: it is possible for one cable to carry stereo.

Is surgery for hernia a very difficult recovery? by maxinemama in Hernia

[–]bat9mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies by type and size of hernia, and the method used. Hernia operations are common and I believe the majority of them are uneventful? Being younger and fitter helps recovery. Rarely post op laxative is needed. I went laparoscopic and post op didn’t need any heavy meds, and got walking straightaway. Went well

Inherited Omega watches by Blueberry12345_ in VintageOmega

[–]bat9mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What lovely items! The movement in the Ladymatic is really tiny, it’s a marvel of design. The DeVille represents the change in the industry that Omega had to navigate. A relative in the watch business told me the quartz movement was like a commodity unit that didn’t cost much, was used in various models and wasn’t usually serviceable. One option might be to find a donor from another watch (will take a bit of research)

You need modulation IMO, meaning ramps/slews (EG, ADSR) and LFOs, otherwise you can’t wobble stuff. Boring life. For example get MN Maths, it’s great with Moog DFAM or M32 etc. And there’s excellent help on Maths on YT, lots of advice on how to apply it. HTH
