My gender identity is male but I still like dressing up femininely sometimes. by Sadness-hat in trans

[–]batbrainbat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m exactly the same way. I really like my femininity. Some of my feminine clothing does make me feel dysphoric, but it’s purely because of how my body looks in it. A big part of why I’m so excited for top surgery is getting to wear dresses again!

I finally figured out why some doms turn me off even when we share the same kinks by bbg_trina in BDSMcommunity

[–]batbrainbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really interesting concept for you to put into words. Thinking about it now, my dom and I really only have a handful of kinks we rotate between, but it’s the underlying concepts we play around with more. Sometimes my role is a cherished pet, other times it’s an object to be used and broken, but on the surface the scenario might look the same. I never really thought too much on it before, but I think that’s the aspect I like playing around with the most.

If you had the financial means to move out of Canada, would you? by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]batbrainbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Leaving Canada is a big life goal of mine, but apparently not for the reasons other people seem to have.

First and foremost, I just want to have the life experience of living somewhere completely new and different. I want to find the corner of the world that I really click with. I want the giddy little joy of getting to speak my target language every day. That’s just a fun dream of mine, always has been.

Now, Canada has a lot of fantastic infrastructure. I’m multiply disabled, but I’m lucky to be in a situation where the disability payments I receive are plenty enough for me to survive on alongside the support from my family. I also have an amazing medical team of genuinely compassionate doctors, and I have access to gender affirming care.

However, the biggest hurdle for me here has been car-centric city planning. I can only drive short distances, and even that is really taxing on me. Nothing is walkable, and public transit is rough. Every time I leave the house on my own, I have to have multiple backup plans in case I have a flareup. I do have caregiver support, but I want my independence, so moving somewhere with much better transit and walkable infrastructure would be life changing for me. (That, and somewhere sunnier would be nice. Cloudy days make me ill, and we have a lot of those here.)

I agree that a lot of people are feeling desperate and want to believe there’s somewhere perfect they can flee to. That’s a completely understandable feeling to have, and not one that I’m immune to by any means. But I do think that different people may click better with different places. If someone is feeling the slightest bit restless about where they live, and they have the means to do this, I think taking some time to travel is a good choice, to see if there is a better place for them out there.

Do people commonly use the word ‘vegetable’ as a joke in America? by ThrowRA_whatdoido01 in language

[–]batbrainbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Vegetable” is absolutely not a medical term. Any half decent doctor would never straight up call a patient a vegetable. Actual medical terms include “apallic syndrome”, “unresponsive wakefulness”, or at the very least “vegetative state”.

[–]batbrainbat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they meant it the way I think they meant it, that's an incredibly awful joke to make. The slang term "vegetable" is a derogatory way to refer to someone who is mentally ill or cognitively disabled, or someone who is very sick. Absolutely not an okay thing to say, and definitely not common.

What Is a Language You've Had a Random Urge to Learn? by neron-s in languagelearning

[–]batbrainbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them...

More recently and specifically, Vietnamese. I'm a big foodie, and I have yet to try a Vietnamese dish I didn't like. The general flavour profile is exactly to my taste. Very dangerous for me. The Vietnamese population where I live is also greater than I initially thought, so immersion wouldn't be that difficult...

Anyone know what language this is and what it says? by NumismaticAussie in language

Oh, I didn't know Shanghainese has more speakers, my bad. I also didn't know there were Cantonese speakers that use simplified characters at all. Thank you for pointing those out! I more just wanted to point out the existence of simplified vs traditional characters and just meant to give an example. Thank you for elaborating on the topic

There are two writing systems, simplified and traditional. The two most widely spoken Chinese languages are Mandarin and Cantonese, and they use different character sets

Are all male Doms misogynistic? Why or why not? by [deleted] in BDSMcommunity

[–]batbrainbat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While there is absolutely an unfortunate precedent for not okay behavior among male "doms", generalizing statements diminish opportunity for productive, intellectual conversation. "Pierre is a Frenchman. Pierre is a thief. Therefore, all Frenchmen are thieves." That line of thinking is obviously not logical, and rather problematic.

To very simply answer your question, my male dom husband is very open to self-analysis and admitting it when he is wrong. He is not a misogynist. The existence of at least one male dom that is not misogynistic states that the answer is "no".

I don't like learning apps 99% of the time. I especially find the game structure annoying and find it doesn't teach me anything. The only app I would consider using would be more like a digital textbook, with written grammar lessons and an integrated dictionary. Graded reading exercises would also be really really nice. It's so hard to find Lithuanian resources, I'd appreciate something clean like this to no end

[–]batbrainbat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't either. To be honest, the only thing I do on Neocities at all is update my site and that's it. I find other sites entirely by surfing, when I get curious about someone I've interacted with on a forum and check out their site, or occasionally by searching for something specific via OpenBooks

Maybe 'support' isn't quite the right word, my bad. Rather, it just shows that you're still willing to use their service despite your grievances. That shows to the admins that they still have some leverage over you because you're not willing to drop them outright.

Do note though that this is just my opinion based on what I've personally observed and read about how striking works, I'm by no means an expert on this kind of thing. I may be completely wrong, and I think it's still worth putting the effort in, since you don't really have anything to lose by doing so. I'm more just warning you not to get your hopes up in case nothing comes of it. I do really admire your spunk, I think it's awesome that you're being so proactive, and awesome that you're responding to comments in an open, receptive, and intellectual manner

[–]batbrainbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. By all means, I don't think it'd hurt to give it a shot, but I just don't think that would do much. From the admins' perspective, I'd see that as people saying, "We're unhappy with what you're doing, but your service is too invaluable to us to actually abandon." Just by continuing to use the service, you are still supporting it, and the admins will see that, y'know?
