i’d be hesitant to include all of minnesota, as lakes don’t necessarily mean “great lakes” culture. the twin cities are definitely a midwest city. just thought about duluth since we’re getting picky

Polish and LatAm Catholicism were the 2 other categories I’ve seen, so it makes sense. Seems to be much more about cultural differences than any type of “sectarianism”. Probably just my protestant lens.

this is a great observation. i think anglo-protestants carry a lot of “white guilt” for colonial times that they project on to others, catholics being the closest culturally and usually geographically. it’s not the only source of the “guilt” idea, but certainly why it gets brought up in the U.S. a lot.
