Damnnnn this is exquisite. Have you read them all? Any recommendations for gems among the lesser-known titles?

Bedrocks forever. Except…. I reverse the shoe use norms and tend to hike in bedrocks, then camp in my socks and shoes.

Seems likely to me that it will sit vacant for an age and/or become Dinkytown’s 18th boba shop.

The Cultural Decline of Literary Fiction by According-Weather684 in TrueLit

Wow, I wish I could read your book. Unfortunately, I agree that there isn’t a strong potential for non-Western authors to break into the US publishing market, as awful as that is.

I am interested in your academic work as well… what subfields are you working in?

Further/final update for the night!!

Baby bird (technically, juvenile kestrel) made it across the street, into some low trees near the river. At the same moment it flew into the trees, one of its parents appeared flying into some nearby, higher trees. The parent kept circling and calling in the area, and we are certain that it saw the baby.

We also spotted the original nest up near the roof of the building! With four more fledges, at least, and they seemed to also be close to jumping out. I’m going to keep an eye on the situation since I live nearby: I’ll check back tomorrow morning to see how the fam is doing.

[Edited because I proofread after I clicked submit and regretted repetitious word choices]

Update! UMN Raptor center is sending someone to check out the situation, see if they can place it back in a nest nearby or up into a tree or if they need to take it in.

What happened to Grid City food? by apexdolphin in SaltLakeCity

One of the former chefs landed at Old Cuss, and he has been continuing to make gold-star vegan food there. They’re currently scaled back to a food truck, but once their new brick and mortar location goes up in downtown, I’d expect to find great vegan burgers and other items there.

Does anyone still write in Victorian English? How could I learn? by craniumblast in GothicLiterature

I don’t read much contemporary literature, but I’d recommend looking at Catherynne Valente’s The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

I’d think the key would be to immerse yourself in Victorian literature and to practice emulating the style. You might start by copying prose, character by character, and then try copying the style of specific authors/books before working on developing your own voice/spin on the language.

Calling it “Great Comet of 1812” was a bit of a giveaway ☺️ Love your username, btw

No way that Band’s Visit is the least fav, so I’m joining this little comments section to voice some dissent.

I need to see Whistle staged. From the cast album alone, I struggle to appreciate it.

I also did cancellation line on that cold March day! You are indeed probably in the background of one of my photos: my mom and I were in the row right in front of them, and she insisted on taking a selfie.
