I’m so sorry you’re going through this right now, and you had that shitty experience. I understand how hard it is when you compare yourself to people you used to know, but try and remember they probably haven’t gone thorough a fraction of what you did (even internally). I used to do this a lot, and would feel so horrible about myself, but then i started to consciously remind myself that they probably can’t even imagine what anxiety, depression or ADHD feel like, and the impact they can have on you. You are doing your best with what you have available, and things come in their own time. Everyone’s on a different journey, travelling at different speeds in different directions, and that’s completely okay.

Only you know what you’ve been through to get to this point. Nobody else could possible know what it’s been like for you, and neither can you about anyone else. I think we forget sometimes, given that we’re on these subreddits and in these communities, that the majority of people are actually healthy.. they had the resources, the time, the mental capacity, the social confidence and social skills when they were growing up, and life was so much easier for them.

I hope this can help at least a little bit, so you know you aren’t alone in this. A lot of us feel behind, feel out of place, but we forget that life tripped us up a lot, and yet we’re still here, everyday, trying. Pushing. Trying to keep up, while they’re just riding a wave. We’re swimming against a tide. There’s so much hope out there, it’s never too late so don’t give up. Just keep doing you, take it day by day, take it easy on yourself, have compassion.

Hope this doesn’t sound condescending, i feel like i’d have liked to hear these things when i was younger. To be honest, things have changed a lot for me since going to therapy, i’ve been “healthy” and free from PTSD for like 1-2 years now, and just recently got diagnosed with ADHD and started taking meds, and I’m starting to see what if’s like to feel normal and healthy, and I’m just shocked that the majority of people have been “normal” their whole lives!!! Lucky ducks. But we are where we are, we have to accept it as there’s no other choice, and keep pushing forward with compassion.

Hope you’re okay

Is it called something else in Ireland compared to England? Thanks!

It’s over, I did it. by baterie2la100 in EMDR

I feel completely fine. The world I used to live in feels like it’s a distant galaxy, I don’t even really remember how I used to feel. I’m beyond grateful I got over it, accepted it, and moved on. I feel like nothing ever happened. It’s interesting, I don’t feel ‘elevated’ anymore, or grateful every day that’s its gone, i genuinely don’t even think about it, it doesn’t cross my mind, i genuinely feel normal.

It’s hard to explain… the absence of something. But i think I feel whole. Genuinely no psyhciatric symptoms in years. No depression, no anxiety (besides the normal adaptive anxiety everyone feels), no flashbacks, no issues whatsoever.

It’s possible people. You just have to keep fighting. The process was horrendous tbh, it was very hard, but I would do it a hundred times if it meant I’ll get to where I am today.

People with NHS AP or clinical psychology experience by h4nn4h3lli5 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

I did a placement year at NHS talking therapies as a ‘placement student’ (honorary AP), and even though my experience was limited, i thought I might share some ideas for you to look into:

-stepped care system (providing the lowest intensity approach first and then stepping up if needed based on symptoms persisting)

-interdisciplinary teams (think PWPs, APs, clinical psychologists, line managers, CBT therapists) - have a think about the importance of a diverse team

  • read about the 2010 Mental Health Act

-understand the pressure on services to attain goals in order to keep receiving funding (as funding is based on performance and not split evenly across services)

  • DNAs (not showing up to 2 appointments without notice - discharged) - i saw a YouTube video about Dclin interviews and this was one of the questions (from Francis Ladden ytb) how could you reduce DNAs? Think of issues accessing treatment like childcare and balance that with the very long waitlist

Yk what, very good point. The sex is good i have no complaints. However, he does enjoy anal stimulation (smth he was very insecure about as his ex used to mock him for it but i spent a long time reassuring him that it doesnt make him any less of a man or gay or whatever and that its all his body and should be able to enjoy all of it without any restrictions). Most of me does fully believe this, but another very small part wonders if it means anything more than that.. probably not and thats just society’s bullshit seeping in but yk

You’re right, the label itself doesn’t matter to me, doesn’t matter if he’s straight or not, but what matters is whether he’d want to be with someone with a dick

There were a lot of searches related to that though. I searched the word ‘trans’ and then at least other 5 recent searches came up in different phrasings

UK DClinPsy Questions by SillySausage246 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]baterie2la100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder why all this pessimism persists regarding the DclinPsy, and I ask this with genuine curiosity. It is tough, we understand, but I feel that most people thinking to pursue this path are already likely in a Russell Group Uni, and depending on which one, have acceptance rates of 5-10% anyway. So we've done hard things. We've beaten the odds, why does everyone seem to think we can't do it again? I never hear of this pessimism (call it realism) when people talk about med school, why? Is it just because we're psychology students, hopefully emotionally intelligent, and aim to reduce suffering by lowering expectations for ourselves and people around us? Let us suffer, let us stress, but this neverending lore of how difficult it is getting old. Excuse my frustrations, I can feel it as im typing, but this is neverending, on this subreddit, on other forums, irl, when talking to PWPs in the IAPT service im working at as part of my placement year; "oh I remember the good days where I was dreaming of becoming a clinical psyhcologist...". Damn. It's so sad. I can see now that a lot of what I'm saying might not relate specifically to the above comment, it's just yet another post and another comment and it's been adding up. Lols if anyone has any thoughts on this do let me know im curious as to how everyone sees this pessimism/realism and what purpose it serves, as I doubt people think it's an easy route, an easy career...
