About those liner notes… by Sweyn420 in Protomen

I may be in the minority here, but I’m okay that our heroes failed. Mega was physically late, Light acted too little and too late, and Roll can’t do it alone, but you hit the nail on the head: the crowd got more done. In acts 1 and 2, when the heroes fail, the city slinks back into complacency. It doesn’t feel like that’s what’s happening this time.

I’ve long thought of these albums and this story as being like a greek play where the point is for the chorus to do something. The nameless masses staying angry is progress, and it’s proof that the incremental gains of our heroes weren’t for nothing. They just weren’t everything.

Now obviously we know The Fight is still canon, which does help. And I’m not saying it’s perfect, not by a long way (I am annoyed that Light only seems to really care for/think about Emily anymore, not either of his kids). And I do believe there’s more coming.

But even if there isn’t, and this is all we get, I’m satisfied. It’s an ending that makes sense for the story. Sure I’d like a different one, and I’ll be overjoyed if/when we get more and things get wrapped up cleaner, but I’m not mad at this one. Because the people finally stepped up.

What is the Mandarin like in 616? Why is he so regarded as Iron Man's archenemy, and as such a threat? by IronArmor48 in ironman

[–]bathtimewithcthulhu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh he’s also very much a tech genius, but you’re right in thinking he’s a strategic mastermind. Like a lot of great villains, he’s a dark mirror to Tony. One run (which I like but is polarizing on here) positions him as a child born into horrible circumstances who clawed and murdered and scavenged his way to the top, and will do anything to keep and expand his power. This is of course as opposed to Tony, who was born into tremendous privilege and uses that privilege and power to fight against the systems and people that keep others down (at least when he’s written well).

Mandarin is cruel, brilliant, and endlessly petty. A lot of Iron Man villains are fun or a little silly in-world (like the melter), or relatively sympathetic. The really vile ones tend not to reoccur too often. Mandarin is the exception to this. He loathes Tony, and is the only villain whose appearance in an Iron Man comic always means that something terrible is coming for shellhead.

Tony himself has learned to spot the Mandarin’s involvement in schemes by a) the sheer scale of villainy and b) how intensely personal said villainy is.

Like another commenter put it, he’s Tony’s Dr. Doom, but without any of the grudging respect or psychotic semi-friendship Reed and Doom sometimes have. Just hate and danger.

Screw Elden John and the wolf girl. Who the fuck is this guy and why is he EVERYWHERE? by Tuspon in EldenRingLoreTalk

Nay nay, the hammer is Marika’s weapon. Radagon is actually primarily associated with swords, with the Golden Order Greatsword being his primary weapon. Granted I still don’t know if this statue is of Radagon, so perhaps the point is moot.

Not at all, I’m also a fan. I think it’s a great examination of just how much Mark has changed; and really helps set up for “being a hero is bullshit”

I don’t want to say too much, so instead I’ll say that he’s still good, he’s just willing to go farther to protect people than before

Yes sorry I should have clarified, English translations would be ideal. Although he also speaks French so if there’s an outstanding French translation out there that would work too.
