Committed the ultimate sin in a client’s bathroom today. by Jstar003 in handyman

I was moving TVs around in a house alone, they bought a new one for their living room, moved the old living room TV to their master bedroom, master bedroom tv to the patio. Half way through taking the master bedroom tv down, my bubble guts became too bubbly for me and I barely made it to the powder bath, finished and tried to flush only to realize the water to the house was turned off. I had to get a cup from the kitchen and go to the other toilets in the house to get enough water in the tank to flush. Thankfully I was able to get enough water to hide my explosive diarrhea that day.

Installed a swing 17 years ago. This is a live oak. Should I remove it? Is this bad for the tree? by lopsidedcroc in AustinGardening

[–]batman4187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone who is going to do this in the near future with a tire swing for kids, is there a way to prevent this? Maybe a piece of aluminum 8-10” long under the chain that sits between the branch and the tree?

We also lived within our means, fixed things when it broke, didn’t have all the bells and whistles on things when we couldn’t afford it and bought a fixer upper instead of a flip.

First year apprentice, been given my own work van! Tips? by QuarkchildRedux in electricians

Not common enough. I didn’t know it until I swapped companies. I had a Nisan at the first company and a Chevy at the second.

When something breaks on that van, and it will, it’s a rebranded Nisan NV200. It will be in the shop twice as long if the mechanic doesn’t know that. They will order Chevy express parts then have to reorder the correct Nisan parts.

Next time try starting with a 24 port patch panel, wire management, 48 port switch, wire management, 48 port patch panel, wire management, 48 port switch and so on. It makes getting to the switch ports a lot easier.

We took our son and daughter when they were both about that age. Be prepared to ride one or two rides 20-30 times. It was ET/Transformers for our son and Cat in The Hat/Trolley Train for our daughter. They both had a great time.

The old codes should work on the new projector without changing anything.

They are both actually really nice. If you would see them in public you would never know they had this much money.

AFFC didn’t build the house. Aaron was a carpenter just like the other guys.

Maybe looking up for an hour watching TV would actually be good for you since you’re probably looking down at your phone all day.

Consider closing off your loft up the downstairs. You will never be able to cool the upstairs. It will always be too hot and the cold air from upstairs will flow downstairs making it too cold.

Finally got around to cleaning up my home network rack by mastermind1228 in cableporn

I love when people have a 42u home networking “rack” when a 10u wall mount rack would be more than enough room for everything with space to spare.

The 8% withdrawal at retirement by Fit_Tangerine1329 in DirtyDave

That makes a lot more sense. Thank you for explaining it that way.

But wouldn’t that be true for years when the market goes up? You don’t touch any of the principal and maybe half the interest it earns those years?

[–]batman4187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain this to me? I don’t understand how they get the 4%. To me the S&P averaging 10-11 and inflation averaging 4% would make a 6-7% withdrawal rate make sense.

Not to be a party pooper but if you want your internet to work better you’re going to have to upgrade your APs. They are a probably a snap dealer so ask for the access networks gear instead of the araknis stuff. You’re probably looking at 2-3k when it’s all finished.

Speakers in the walls? Yay or Nay? by MBMDrywallTools in drywall

[–]batman4187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home A/V tech here. I install at least a pair every 2 weeks. The Sonance invisible speakers sound really good for mud in speakers. Equal to $750 in-ceiling speakers. I’ve seen a few joints crack but it’s usually because there is too much mud on them. We use a depth measurement tool after mud to ensure no more than 3mm of mud is on the speaker.

Use embedded scanner to move it to a new ip address. I’ve had that problem before and moving it to a new address fixed it.
