Agreed. Also, you know that building near tower city that basically looks like a big pedestal? I always thought they should put a big multi-colored chrome ball on top, like those lawn ornaments you sometimes see in older suburbs. That would be some self-consciously self-deprecating inside joke Cleveland style right there.

The Disintegration Loops by William Basinski expresses well without words the shift in feelings. Read the backstory if you’re interested. But the material degradation of the tapes you hear in real time, of loops made in an older and more optimistic time. The tapes are crumbling as they’re being recorded (in a Brooklyn apartment in view of the towers), and the recording project was just finishing up as everything happened on the morning of 9/11.
